New Year Classic 2012
oldswindonsupporter replied to Devilforever's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I'm the other side of the bridge / river, rained overnight, ground is quite wet, sunny, blue skies with white clouds here now although we have had a couple of little showers, the rain of last night to my mind will be the determining factor - those at the track should be in a better position to let us know. -

After reading the Star and seeing the advertised price for this, that made by decision! Priced itself out of affordability I'm afraid. That's two of us no longer going! -

Nothing mentioned tonight re next year either, normally they announce the date for next year during the meeting. Looks like either the MS have jacked up the price or IMG trying to bring it down...be a crying shame to loose the venue...what about the Olympic stadium post August or even Wembley? -

There's been some good racing at Blunsdon this year, the only reason the crowd is down is because of the poor home form,(and the bloody weather), not the track. Depends on what you call good racing - the only line being so wide that the riders are riding very close to the fence is not conducive to good racing - recent reports suggest the track produced doesn't suit the riders, or perhaps more pertinent, how it is prepared, still nothing wrong with the track? Poor home form and track perhaps go hand in hand? Again, just my view. A -

I'm informed his 1st and 2nd bend of the final was something a bit special. Yes it was but he went oh so wide in order to do so! That said the better race was between Freddie and Eddie for third place! -

Agreed, Roo well worth the win and recovered well from his tumble. Held Darcy off in the final who was very good but even he could do nothing in the race he finisnhed last in! Interestingly the pair had a few words at the start in the final, wonder what was said!? Track I thought was poor, why do riders have to ride so close to the fence to find anything? If that's on par with what is served up week in week out then hardly surprising the support is voting with its feet! Based on last night's performance, it didn't inspire me to visit in a hurry although will have to do one meeting as I bought a groupon voucher - doh! Looked like there was a bump or rut on the apex of the 1st and 2nd bends that caught the riders out, Crump had one of those heart in the mouth moments round as a result. Produce a racing surface with plenty of racing lines especially given the team Swindon have, can't be that hard can it? Thought Crump the pick of the GP riders for me till Bridger took him off in heat 13 and didn't appear again, good race between Freddie and Eddie and also Scott and Simon with half a wheel in it! Holder also took a tumble busting a gut trying to get something from the track and also declined further rides. Olly Allen took a tumble and took no further part. Big crowd, well I won't know as not a regular - judging by the tickets I was number 418 and my son 121 and that was about 19.10 when we went in....zero atmosphere, big crowd or not! Long drawn out first half, heat 9 not startingt ill 20.55 although after that it appears someone either found the 2 minute button or was told to move it along! Final race finished around 22.10. All in all, it served it's purpose and as these things go, not bad but it was just a mediorce meeting...just my view of course, no doubt others will disagree! A -

My son and I are planning to go this evening, however, it has been raining here in Bristol for the last half hour so was wondering if there is a weather update from those more local to Blunsdon? Thks A -
Can anyone confirm the start time of the meeting on 24th April against Dudley for me please as will be travelling down after taking in the berwick meeting the night before as part of a mini tour. Thks in advance A

Does anyone know when the NL fixtures will be out? Trying to plan a sppedway trip over Easter and would be useful to know if any tracks are riding over that w/e. Any info would be appreciated. Thks A
-
No sign of these appearing unless someone knows any different! Does anyone know when they might be published? Failing that, does anyone know of any NL fixtures for Easter Monday or for July 31st (Sunday)? Thks in advance. A

Just to echo the previous comments re the new web site - clean and uncluttered, visually very good. Congratulations to the designer. Rgds A

Agreed! Had thought Tyson was after and ready for a PL place this year - maybe this might be a doubling up spot? Will he get enough rides to make this pay? However, after reading the article, this looks like a numbers game especially if Tyron and Tai are remaining with Wolves and also the line "We have explained to him what we expect and the job he can do for us..." Hopefully this won't end in tears. Rgds A
-
Steve - if you have the schedule agreed, are you not able to publish a list of venues and dates? Rgds A

"Again this is for non-payment despite the fact the BSPA have owed me money for two years, whereas I owe them six months’ money.” Something doesn't seem to add up here! If this is correct then the BSPA have a case to answer in that why have they not paid PB and why weren't they monitoring payments - to end up being owed 6 months money (not sure what this is meant to cover or be for) smacks of poor administration on the part of the BSPA. Shouldn't they have been involved after a month of non payment? Also how can the bond to used to pay a fine? Can someone explain that? Do the riders who haven't been paid have a case against the BSPA? All in all, no matter which way this is read, an absolute mess. Rgds A

Rider requests? Well you asked, how about a septet that includes Eddie (be hard to imagine a tour without him), Tyson (assuming he is not a PL rider), Austin, Gino and Bryce to name but five!? Not sure how feasible that might be Steve but be good PR material perhaps? Rgds A
-
"The reason we are touring so much is based on Kenny Ingalls and Tyson Burmeister's progress, it seems that those riders who could make it to PL level need three tours to get to that level." Steve - whilst not wishing you to reveal anything untoward or anything that hasn't been agreed, do you think we are hopeful of seeing Tyson in the PL in 2011?
-
I stand corrected! Thanks Jeff! Did think it a bit odd that there it was being portrayed differently! Not sure I agree 100% with Steve's direction from another post "but I also like to bring the riders I want to bring" sounds very much like the "little boys club" to coin the phrase. Hopefully it isn't like that as talent whether your face fits or not should be encouraged. All that said, it is an opportunity for these guys and not doubt takes up alot of time and effort to organise, so, I guess thanks Steve for doing it as I have seen these guys in both guises now and have enjoyed both although if pushed, I enjoyed the Dream Team visit more, that might have been due to location and many other variables though! Again, just my view!
-
Don't think this is the USA Dream team, just another touring team which to my mind is not quite the same and much will depend on who they decide to bring over. The last touring team had two 50+ riders in Eddie and Shawn and a 35 yr old! Whilst it was nice to get to meet and chat with Shawn this time around, the tour to my mind should be all about the up and coming riders from the US who might fancy putting them themselves in the shop window so to speak. Bryce Starks fits that to a tee and is a prime example of who should be in the team. Yes I agree some experinece is a good thing and accept that having Eddie in the team or someone like him is a bonus but not two of them and a 35 yr old! It might be nostagla but I'd prefer to go and see the youngsters race out of the two having seen both teams. Just my view of course.

Haven't the rules changed now so that it is a 5 pt average that is required? -

Anyone know why Chris Kerr didn't ride? Looks like Ryan Fisher replaced him? Wolves could have a couple of good reserves if Wolbert moves up and either Whethers or Kerr double up! That of course would mean that the younger Lindgren would be in the 1 to 5, is that an option? Rgds A
