  1. Nice surprise when the Royal Mail delivered the Star on Thursday last week....too good to be true? You bet it was just got home no sign of a Star.....Norwich is bloody awful for deliveries these days seem to come twice a week if we are lucky! Fingers crossed for tomorrow...not sure. what to do if it becomes a long term problem

yes only in speedway you can have an away leg at a home track with big advantage for mildenhall for such a important meeting and from what i am told a few clubs didn't’ think it was right either after they found out even  when they still have the original date still on at kent and maybe a bumper crowd for kent also if kent win they have a chance of the title maybe then mildenhall can offer them there track  to  help them finish their season BSPL made  right decision for the good of the sport

Fair points. But surely it says a lot about the sport's governance that this situation arose in the first place. It was on the SpeedwayGB website this morning. That suggests someone somewhere signed it off...But it is what it is and hopefully the meeting on October the 19th will provide a fitting finale to the season.

Hopefully the sport as a whole will go back to the drawing board in the winter and reboot for 2022.

  3. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the original decision to switch the meeting to West Row the good old BSPL are yet again the people sending the sport's credibility into the gutter.

Both clubs were in agreement and it doesn't seem that any other club objected?. But instead of a potential title decider in front of a possibly bumper crowd on a Sunday afternoon that would have given Mildenhall a well deserved revenue boost it's back to square one..

After a season with so few home meetings for Mildy the sport's so called governing body shows interest in the NDL for the first time anyone can remember and says no because it would compromise the title race. So instead it's back to Kent on a Tuesday evening where far fewer people will be able to attend.

For people like me who work in the media and try and promote a positive image of the sport we love, it's been another day of colleagues laughing and saying 'only in speedway' Sad thing is they are right.

  4. Long story short the chances of my employers ITV showing speedway anytime soon or frankly in the future are somewhere around zero. Resources are a lot tighter than they used to be and the truth is production costs make it unviable for the commercial returns it would generate.

Speaking as a fan of 40 years plus the simple fact that we've all had to come to terms with, is speedway is now firmly looked on as a minority sport. When I read Backtrack Classic Speedway etc see the big crowds and know the way ITV used to cover speedway nationally and regionally with full OB's it breaks my heart that apart from sporadic coverage on the regional news the interest is no longer there.

But that's the way it is and it isn't going to change.

  5. Hate to be a prophet of doom but the chances of my employer ITV picking up speedway is somewhere around zero and down from there. For a lot of media the advertising cake is smaller than ever so sports and programmes that generate the most commercial revenue though sponsorship and audience figures will always be top of the pile for big players like ITV.

Much as it pains me to say it speedway no longer falls into that category. The cost of covering a meeting properly means it's not worthwhile. Interestingly when I mentioned speedway to the big cheeses last time the TV deal was on the table the reaction was they'd be happy to talk but no one from the sport had been in contact...that says it all really. That chance is unlikely to come again anytime soon. Add in the numerous other issues with the sport that have been debated for years on here and to be frank it's lucky it's on TV at all.

Personally having grown up following Exeter home and away and speedway being a staple on World of Sport I get no pleasure from writing this.  If BT do drop out I think the best bet in the current market for speedway will be a small motor sports channel taking a magazine style programme produced by an independent company.

In the meantime I'll carry on enjoying the sport at my local tracks and keep fingers crossed that somehow speedway will sort itself out and become mainstream again...well you have to dream!

  6. To mark the start of the new season ITV News Anglia have done a feature with Len Read who celebrated his 100th birthday in January. 7. Michael is still co-promoter at Mildenhall and has been interviewed by Speedway Star about the Fen Tigers throughout the winter and unless he has a double I interviewed him at our meet the riders night a few weeks ago! Seriously though he has been working flat out on his tuning business over the last few months so has perhaps been a 'little' quieter than normal ! With our opening match against Dudley fast approaching I am sure you'll soon be hearing from him on a regular basis again....hope that helps answer the question.

  8. Friday the 19th is the pencilled in date for the KO Cup Final NOT the Play-Off Final. The circuit is booked for a private stock car event on Sunday 21st and the 19th is the date offered to the club by the stadium owners. Nothing though has been finally confirmed. But the simple fact is there are not many available dates left at West Row between now and the end of October.

This Sunday's meeting has been a National Trophy meeting since the start of the season and bearing in mind we had no idea we would be facing the IoW in the play-offs until Wednesday there was never going to be enough time to change things. The respective club managements were still able to quickly agree on the 30th and 2nd as POSF dates.

Hope that clarifies things a bit!

  9. Mildenhall captain Lewis Blackbird is still missing after dislocating his shoulder at King's Lynn, so the Fen Tigers will operating rider replacement for him.

So the line up is Cameron Heeps, Joe Jacobs, Stefan Nielsen, Daniel Halsey, R/R, Nathan Stoneman, Josh Bates.

    Cheers

  10. Dear all

Please accept my sincere apologies for the mistake in the report from Mildenhall on the NL Fours. It is entirely my fault and was down to nothing more sinister than me misunderstanding a conversation I had with a member of our promotion.

At no point would I have wanted to undermine the event or indeed Dudley's tremendous victory on the night which Michael Lee saluted, further on in the report.

It was never an attempt to appear bitter, a lie or appear uninformed, as some posts have suggested.

It was purely and simply a genuine mistake. As a journalist who has always prided myself on accuracy, the thought that I have misled or upset supporters of other clubs or given the wrong impression of Mildenhall has left me feeling angry and disappointed with myself.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  11. Got it in one Phil. We've been scuppered by the downpour yesterday. So along with a poor forecast for later this afternoon, it was decided to postpone early to save people travelling and give them chance to find other things to do. All very frustrating, let's keep fingers crossed for Tuesday!

    Best
