So your happy to put another death nail in the development league then,we gave him a second chance after he backed out of a deal at the beginning of the season put yourself in Plymouth’s shoes how would you feel if they thought he was going to sign for Redcar do you honestly believe they would offer him a contract of course they wouldn’t get real I hope his dream move as you say works out for him,but sadly I don’t think it will.

Plymouth would have changed Wallinger in an instant if they could have found someone else who could be arsed to drive down the M5.

No loyalty from most clubs towards riders these days that’s been shown across all 3 leagues so don’t expect any in return

Just thought I would pick on this one to respond to and to try and lay some facts down around this as it seems to have got lost among all the comments.

The three metre rule is clear at Arlington and observed. Every meeting the track staff go round laying down markers to show where this is and the track staff and photographers etc stand inside these bollards when under race control (or whatever its called)

The key here is very clear. The bike were not meant to have been riden on the track. Try to picture the scene. Before the riders parade and introductions, the bike are stood on the track and across the track, pointing towards the main stand (which at Arlo is on the BACK straight).

Then, when its all ready for the off, the annoucer says some announcing stuff, Suusex by the Sea is played and the riders, mechanics, little mascots (children, one with each home rider) management and various sponsors, guests etc, walk out onto the track. There are various people stading around the area on turn 2 (where the entrance to the pits is) and the first part of the back straight.

The announcer introduces the away team and then the home team. When boith team have been announced, the riders are all pushed off to do some starts and check out the track by sliding into the turns.

However, after the team had been announced and the home team had not, SOME of the away team push off and started doing practice starts before the home team were announced. So, we have plenty of people still on and near the track, pit gate wide open and Craig Cook flying down towards turn one. So yes, one of the marshalls walked out onto the track desperately trying tpo stop the riders flying round into turn 2 where someone could have got hurt.

Craig Cook rode straight into him. Now I am a pragmatic person. I will often aurgue with my son when he is cursing for the ref because and Eastbourne rider has been excluded and I will say , well "maybe he did touch him, the ref has a better veiw than us" so I was still thinking that this could be a misunderstanding, maybe Craig was looking outwards and didnt see the marshall, maybe the track is patchy and he has a career to worry about and not wanting to risk riding a tricky track for his secong team in a UK league.

All sypathy for hi stopped when I saw him, wearing a helmet, head butt a marshall.

Even less when heat refused to come out in heat one

Even less when the reserves rode the track fine in heat 2

Even less when he decided to take his second ride and stormed to a win, easily.

As for the extra track prep that went on before the start, it was a token bit of sawdust and a 5 minute track grade. Eastbourne track staff are good but I am not sure they can sort and unrideable track that quickly.

Oh yeh and quickly. Someone on here moaned that this thread is getting boring. When it all kicks off like it did and involved one of the best British riders out there, its a topic for conversation.

And trust me, I am not a Craig Cook hater. I like ALL our British riders, espaicially the top ones. I would like noithing more than to hear him apologise for his actions, to Eastbourne, Glasgow and the fans and move on from it. I certainly dont want Kings Lynn hit by a ban like we just have been for Georgie Wood being ill for a Isle of Whote match!

A very sane and sensible post

H&S is absolutely key these days.  If young children were on the centre green it is beyond belief that a rider would chuck a bike into a corner at high speed however talented that rider might be a mechanical or rider error could have lead to serious consequences which would have had massive repercussions for promotion etc.

Wonder when they told Ostergaard as when interviewed by Roy on getting his Man of the Match award last night he told all the fans he was looking forward to Glasgow on Friday and he hoped he and his team mates had their gating gloves on

Few minutes after that!   Shame they didn't mention it to him before he'd booked his flights for July meetings :o(

As a mate and sponsor of Ulrich, naturally gutted for him but nothing surprises me as teams happy to chop and change their team at the drop of a hat and Redcar promotion obviously happy to join the growing trend of moving riders on after only a few meetings.

What I do think is disappointing in this case is that on Saturday night at Leicester the promotion had every opportunity to be straight with him as obviously they’d already made their minds up to drop him, but instead praised him and said they could see signs of the Ulrich they knew and loved

So the guy books all his flights for July, then finds out 2 days later he is axed moments after being given the rider of the night award after delivering the goods with 11 points against arguably the leagues strongest team

I think he deserves a little better treatment as someone who has been very loyal to British clubs over the past decade, not one to cry off at the drop of a hat, doesn’t whinge about track conditions and always happy to chat with the fans!

They now have a machine that tests your urine and gives the  results straight away some company’s now use these  quite regularly for staff checks

I’m not sure that sort of test is legally binding - i of course maybe wrong - but I think that is more of an indicative test which would still need further analysis.

You can`t fail a drugs test on the night- you can refuse to take one- or pull out of a meeting before they pick what riders will be tested.(done before)

Absolutely R&R,  there is no instant drug test result as you rightly say and i’ve Witnessed riders that have mysteriously ricked their back pre-meeting and even fallen down changing room steps to avoid being tested.

Hard luck Redcar, was Wright allowed extra time before he was excluded,  having been in the previous race?

Yep! There appeared to be a mis-understanding from team manager about when interval was being held so neither Redcar rider were ready when 2 mins put on.   Ulrich just made it but Charles although got through out gate wasn’t ready in time.  Not sure why he wasn’t put off 15 meters and then reserve smith excluded under 2 mins as well. Cost Redcar a potential 5-1 for sure

Overall a pretty good meeting track was as slick as i’d ever seen at OTA / didn’t stop decent racing - Schlein and Covatti excellent for Rebels   Rowe improved since last time I saw him in April

Wright excellent for the Bears, MPT very good in first 3 rides, Stewart and Ostergaard both had a good and poor rides.  Smith one excellent ride and a nasty tumble (appeared okay)

Presentation a lot better tonight - except choice of music we were treated too Bucks Fizz & Venga Boys!!!!

Ulrich Ostergaard has won 4 of his 41 heats this season that is pathetic .Do not why people keep making excuses for him.

Fully understand yours and others frustration/disappointment/anger with Ulle’s scores.

Having known him for a long time, what I can say is that he’s as frustrated as anyone with his performance.

I can assure you that he’s not just at Brum to pick up the money, in fact he’s not earning much as he gets paid (rightly) for points scored not a comfy guarantee!

Speedway can be cruel when you’re struggling a bit, last week his engine blew in first ride after being a victim of first bend bunching

last night, the ignition went on bike in warm up and he was unlucky to be excluded with clashing with Kyle

Fans just want to see riders performing as they should I fully understand that - machinery issues aren’t something that fans should have to worry about, but just saying when your lucks out, your lucks out.

    EXACTLY!

The decision to postpone the meeting didn't affect anyone........everybody had advanced notice?

Call yourself speedway fans ??? maybe be just an envious Coventry supporter ???

Affected Ulrich Ostergaard who committed to his UK club and declined a potential Danish booking!     #justsaying

  10. First visit to Somerset since 2008 with Reading.

Forgot how cold it can get there and a 30 minute delay to start proceedings after a lady needed medical help didn't help, but these things can't be helped. and to be fair, that kept the meeting going well once started.

Some good racing without it ever being really great though Chris Harris heat 15 was sublime.

Apart from Harris who will be a real force round the OTA, I was very impressed by Henry Atkins for the home side, very good potential that lad.  Kurtz and Covatti also did well whilst the new German lad will definitely be an asset. Rory S was good, but expected that from him on a well prepared track in clear weather (rain and bumops who knows)! As I mentioned earlier Rowe was on the pace and with Atkins looking good, hopefully he'll be given a long run to prove himself without too much pressure.

For  the Brummies, Ashley Morris and Zach W both performed well and good to see they are continuing to develop.  Ulrich showed some glimpses that he can still mix it with the top guys, Paco produced 2 good heat wins, so certainly doing his job at reserve. Shanes was competitive and brave.   Kyle Newman flattered to deceive in the tough number 5 jacket whilst Tobias Thomsen was off the pace apart from heat 8.

Crowd wasn't great, about 500 at a guess.  Thought it might have been higher with nice day and kids off school.

Not over impressed with the presentation, all a bit bland - don't do much to get crowd going or get kids involved.

Reasonably priced Chicken Nuggets though :-)

    Enjoy evening overall.

How far adrift were Rowe & Thomsen if they were? It has to be said that the number 6 rides are far harder than the number 7 so the disparity between Atkins & Rowe's scores are not always reflective of the match itself.

Thomsen was a long way back in his firsttwo, bit closer in his third - was t/s in final ride

Rowe broke tapes in heat 2 but wasn't far off the pace thereafter.  Very impressed by Atkins.
