M8 I was on turn 1 under the big tree!

Trackman, I must have been standing right next to you. I was standing on the tyres under the big tree on turn 1 with my 2 boys.

As Sir Lunchalot said Mark Lemon was impressive the other night but I thought Johno would have gone better.

    G/Day Aussie

Bignbeefys lady was having trouble with her shoes, they fell on the floor and being the gent I am, I walked over and put them together at the bottom of the tyres. Can you remember seeing that?... she's a small lassy, spoke in a broad northern accent I was speaking to her in a yorkshire accent I had a black shirt on with green inserts under the arms, most of the racing I was in front of the speaker just to the right of you.

    Regards. :)

    PS.

Are you going to Ivan's Longtrack meeting?

  2. Just got home tired but happy.

Where were you standing Trackman ? I was lucky as I had Bryn on one side and Christian Henry's dad on the other.

M8 I was on turn 1 under the big tree! ;O) You was only 15 minutes away from me today! send me an email. I'd love the pleasure of buying you a beer, Streuth! I'd even buy Bryn a Bundy. BUT it's hard when ppl say where they were, not where they will be! :o) I was lucky to have had Martin Porter on one side ;o) & Mick Wild on the other side of me. (that took me back 25 years)....... Now I remember where the Jim Beam's came from!! O my head! :approve:

    Regards.

  4. Trackman has already posted the A & B finals :)

Sorry M'duck! that was the best I could do at 2.30am after 4 Jim Beams @ the speedway! I did get a little dizzy watching the tractor going round & round & round! a 40 foot wide track!... needs more than a 5 foot wide blade though I think!

    Regards.

  6. Jellyman was out with a friend one night, he rang to say they had broke down, when I got there it was a broken throttle cable  we were in trainers :D took out the laces and tied them together, one end on the throttle arm of the carby, left the bonnet popped! the other end in his RIGHT hand :)

    Never a dull moment! ;)

    Regards.

    PS.

Any one see him in his first UK appearence & could TR put KM with Sir KT @ Arena?

Now that would be a pairing to see!!!

  7. What about the wheelies Kelly did half way around the turns while waving his right leg to everyone in the pits? God only knows what those two would have done had they taken it all serious!

Wheelies you say! When Kelly was riding for Birmingham, they were invited into the proccession, (I can't remember what it was for but it was in the main centre of Birmingham) half way into the proccession of floats and marching bands etc, Kelly is sat on the bike on a trailer waving to the crowd, being towed by a nice new Citreon CX sedan. He then starts shouting for us to stop, he untied his bike, unloaded it, pulled it back on compression, started running and jumped on it, then done wheelies for the next 10 minutes. That was something the proccession wasn't ready for nor the organisers. The more the people waved and clapped, the more he put a show on. The Citreon sedan was one of his sponsors. I was told by the promoters, Dan and Jeff, that he is not to drive in the British Isles or in Europe at any time as he has no licence, it's not his car and I'm responsible! That was OK for the first couple of meetings until we drove to Poole and I'd had enough of his nagging. I pulled over on the motorway and we swapped over. We took off like we'd just come out of gate 1 and in no time we'd arrived at the speed limit NOT!

After 1/2 hour he needed to pull into the services which entailed having to stop at a roundabout behind the cars already there. After using one of the said cars as brakes, and a couple of hundred quids damage, he looked at me and said " God damn, where's the bonnet on these mothers, I can't see it". I said it's under that cars back axle! as we were swapping seats at a rapid pace hoping the 10 or so people who had witnessed the acident, didn't see us swapping. Not that it mattered as half of them knew him anyway and as there was no damage to the Volvo's towbar, Kelly got away with it. Guess who learnt how to panel beat and spray paint over night. All's well that end's well.

    Regards

    PS.

Cars and Kelly aren't a good mix! B)

  8. The shay - Halifax, Odsal - Bradford, Brisbane Exhibition Ground, You know how to make a grown Trackman cry! I was talking to Peter who looks after Archerfield Speedway Track, With Hilly, Mazey, & Baz. Peter told them the Ekka is best solo track in Australia! (Peter looked after the Ekka in the Wanless days). This Saturday night at the Brisbane Exhibition ground, they are having a stadium motocross meeting with 100 riders and the Butler's will be turning up with their American monster trucks, also during the year they have veteren speed car meetings. All the Ekka asked for is a deposit from the promoter (well all the costs incurred by the Ekka, paid up front). On another thread should we have a "Lions Tour" of downunder? If a promoter was to put on a 3 match series or 3 out of 5 matches, you would have 3 sell out crowds at the Ekka. I am sure the veteren speed car boys would be interested. As well as the side cars. Oops, Trackman ranting on again.

    Regards. B)

    PS.

VIP PET FOODS would be a good start for sponsorship & if Ivan Mauger & Nigel Boocock put their name to it as well! The show would be a Best Seller!

The Queensland Government , through Queensland Events Corporation has invested 1.1 milllllion in up grades to Willowbanks drag strip. NSW Goverment just spent 26 million on Sydneys new drag racing complex.

    Regards.

    PS.

We have the cash BrizHeathen BUT! ......We can't run a state title meeting! TinHats on! :approve:

  9. Next Saturday night at the Gold Coast is Round on of the Aussie titles. What a night this should be Sullivan, Adams, Wiltshire and many more goers. The Gold coast track has one down hill offcambered corner that sorts the very best out and often produces excellent racing when in good condition. Australian speedway struggles as a result of poor media coverage. Purely a result of economics in a country with such a low population. Just a thought i had the other day to perhaps foster growth in solo racing was for a class to be introduced with an engine that is more relialble and thus more economical to own and race. Many manufacturers can make engines that get flogged days and weeks and even years without the expensive rebuilds that we are subject to with current engines that we use. I am currently looking at a $2500 complete rebuild on a jawa 898 upright, that does include head work etc.

Karting racing in aussie gained many more competitors when they regulated engine classes to a more sustainable and reliable model. Sure we should maintain high performance engines for the top levels. But most novices and most punters dont belong this catagory. We are seeing heaps of youngsters getting into shortcircuit in aussie and i am sure that they would ride sliders if the sliders were more reliable and hence economical to use. I know that economics control production and i dont expect that the japs will venture into such a small market but surely jawa could do something in the intrest of supporting the entry level young riders and there dads that pay the bills. Does any one else see the potential here?

    Yes!

    Regards.

  10. Arthur Browning!

Now there's a blast from the past - does anyone remember the TV commercial that Arthur did - 10 Browning, sorry Brownie points if you can name it.

It was filmed in France, all the crew stayed in the village pub next to the jump location, Arthur had them wait for 3 days for the right weather conditions, (He was getting bored by now with that pub) :o). He did the jump on the 4th morning! Broke his ankle on landing. in the contract was a clause for injury money incase of a fall! With his loss of earnings at Speedway & Enduro for England at the time and leading scorer. Them were the days! ;o)He was a top team mate to be with! Arthur & John Priest what a pair to have a pint with, & just as much fun as working for jellyman in Jeff May days! Remember him? Never a dull moment ;O)))) come to think of it being with Nigel Booey or Brian Larner! look out for the practical joke ;o) I can remember Tommy Shirra ringing up Mrs Booey (Cynthia), Nigel had invited the team Russian team for a BBQ at 7.30pm! Tommy rang up at 2.23pm! saying he was Iva Bukavolsli, USSR team manager! ve vill koming to ze BBQSKI NOW! All team in bed 6.30PM! SEE YOU IN ZEE 39TH MINITE!!! poor Mrs Booey for the next 30 minites she flew round the house trying to get thing ready, then Tommy walked in putting on the same voice. Never a safe moment with some! ;O)

    Regards.

    PS.

Woofy, johnno & Darren Boocock! what a mix ;O)

  11. As well as the above names, I'm lucky to have also Cheered on......

Nigel & Eric Booey, Jim Airey, Greg Kentwell All RED!, Phil Crump & Jr, Niel Street! ;o) Bert Kingston, Dennis Gavros, John Bulger, Billy the kid! Ove, Briggo, Gordon Guasco, "Bill Landels The Big Yin"!!, Arthur Browning! John Langfield, Roy Trigg. Best I stop! wish I could name the 1,000's, I have and would pay to see! Why can't we have a track that has speedway 24/24? or even 7/11. :o)))

    Regards.

  12. I just wish people would get the spelling right.Mr Middleton's name is spelt GARRY and not Gary. The double r is the Aussie way of spelling the name and Garry Middleton himself told me that many years ago at Hackney.

The last I heard of Garry was that he was living over in the USA but that was about 20 years ago.

Sorry to say this cheetahhawk but the "r" was to get the English to "say" Garrry! not Gary. ;o)

    All the Best! ;o)

    PS.

I had a look in "A History of Australian Speedway" by Jim Shepherd 2003!

Now that is a Speedway Book :o)) Only one r. He got Ya's ;O))))
