  1. Hello everybody....we are still around and doing our best

As long as speedway personalities are willing to support our efforts and fans want to attend we will continue to raise money to support GB Youth Speedway. We have again (as last year) recently donated £1500 to Neil Vatcher to help the U16's.

As mentioned in above posts Jeff Davies attends most NSSC meetings and is always willing to give updates.

Our next event may interest some of you as Gary & Lorraine from the 'Track Shop' are bringing their wares and offering them at much reduced prices. Denied the opportunity of their usual busy pre-Christmas shop openings they have plenty of stock for sale.

The Bees Track Shop comes to the NSSC on Thursday 24th August at 8pm. Free entry, open to all. More details of sale items to follow.

  2. We can't get our speedway fix at Brandon anymore but everybody is welcome at the NSSC. Come and have a chat with friendly faces from the Brandon terraces and keep in touch with all the latest gossip.

We are delighted that Max Fricke, one of the sport's brightest prospects and one of the busiest riders has found time in his diary to be our guest tomorrow night, Thursday 20th July

The meeting will start at 8pm and finish around 10-ish, with plenty of time afterwards to stop and chat. There's a good (& cheap) bar which also sells hot drinks and snacks.

    We meet at the Brandon Club, just down the road from the stadium;

    Main Street

    Brandon

    Coventry

    CV8 3HW

All money raised on the night goes to help Neil Vatcher and the GB Young Lions. Entry for non-members is £3.

We have two guest nights in July. James Sarjeant on 6th July and Max Fricke on 20th July. Two extremely likeable and popular riders.

  5. The whole idea of the Just Giving page is to give fans an easy way to offer financial support to the Bees riders if they want to. Jeff Davies and David Rowe asked if the NSSC would administer the appeal to reassure fans that the funds will be managed independently and distributed fairly.

The appeal will last for 60 days plus another 5/7 days to receive the money from Just Giving which takes us up to mid May. At that point we will know each riders situation and will endeavour to distribute the money as fairly as possible.

This short term appeal is only the first step in the developing rescue plan.

  6. When advertising meetings like this, and an admission fee is requested, it's important to say what the admission fee is for..

    Room hire

    Door staff

    Meeting staffing

    Organisers

    Or

If it's going into a save the Coventry Bees war chest...

Just admission cost might put people off attending, if the receipts don't go toward the cause or simple room hire or combination...

    Cheers

    SS

All profits raised from NSSC guest evenings go to help Neil Vatchers' British Young Lions (U16's). As last year we will be donating £1500 to the Young Lions in 2017.

Annual membership is £10 for adults and £5 for those receiving their State Pension.

Admission charges; £1 for members, £3 for non-members (accompanied kids U16 foc). Everybody welcome.

We are an independent Club but in addition to helping British Youth speedway we will do all we can to help the Coventry Bees. Plans are currently being discussed, hopefully an announcement to follow on Thursday 9th March.

  7. Mick wanted to meet the fans last night but you are never going to get the full story when you only hear one side of a three sided argument. I'm sure there were people present in the room (or keeping an eye on the situation from afar) who do know the facts & the truth. It's a shame they can't or won't speak out and take Mick and the others to task.

According to Mick the only chance of Bees survival is for Brandon Estates to find a buyer. To return to Brandon for 2018 that's got to happen well before the next AGM in November and the Bees survive for a whole season. Time is already running out.........again!

The situation could not really be made any worse by somebody in the know (including the BSPA) getting involved, making the situation clear and public and trying to find a solution. There is so much smoke & mirrors & silence from the three parties that those without access (the fans) have no idea who to blame. Well they do, some blame Horton, some blame Sandhu, some blame Brandon Estates and even claim that they are Sandhu. The only fact is that between the three of them they have just about killed any hope of speedway or stock cars at Brandon.

Sadly the Bees are now in the same boat as Coventry City FC. The fans love the team but despair of the owners and their antics!

  8. Made notes as best as I could......happy to be corrected if anybody who was there thinks I got something wrong.

Unless Brandon Estates sell the stadium there will be no return! They are willing to sell and have already had talks with two people/parties but Mick doesn't think these were successful.

Mick estimates getting Brandon up to scratch would cost £100,000 which he alone cannot afford.

Mick said Sandhu knows Brandon Estates but cannot comment any further and said there's been a breakdown in communication between them. Brandon Estates won't let Sandhu back in to stadium.

Speedway could not survive on its own without stock cars and/or other events or use of site/facilities.

Asked if he'd sell the club back to Sandhu he said, yes, he'd sell to anybody for the good of the club who had the best intentions.

Needs crowds of 800 to break even at Leicester. More than that if many take up the £100 for 8 meetings offer.

Confusion over whether the stadium was sold for £2.2m or £2.7m (immaterial) but Mick said it wasn't offered to him otherwise "he'd have snapped his hand off".

He said he wanted to speak during the last few months but was advised to keep quiet by Brandon Estates, Sandhu & Rugby Council.

The meeting did get a bit untidy at one point but everybody had a chance to ask their questions or make a point.

  9. And don't forget you're not allowed to repeat it on here, it's a secret! ;)

Behave ; ) This is very different to encouraging and allowing guests to speak candidly. I can't speak for others but I'll do my best to report Mr Horton's comments/statements as accurately and as soon as possible.

Please note that we are concerned about the size of the room (capacity approx 120 with about 80 seats). We will do all we can to accommodate everybody. We'll talk to Jim Lynch first (our original guest) have a break and then open the floor to questions for Mick Horton. Everybody welcome with a charge of £3 for non-members which goes to help Neil Vatcher's Young Lions.

  10. So what did Scott Nicholls have to say about the Brandon situation last night, how many turned up ?

You'll do well to get an answer, it's usually a secret.

As you would expect Scott was a great example of all the good folk in speedway. Prepared to give up his time and his generosity enabled us to raise almost £200 for the Young Lions. There were about 75 in attendance but I don't remember the Coventry situation being discussed at length (I stand to be corrected). All manner of subjects were covered with many laughs along the way. There were plenty of new faces in the audience and I think/hope everyone enjoyed the evening.

  11. 50/50 not running next year. Anyone know why?

Just to be clear, there could be a 50/50 this season but it won't be run independently by the NSSC.

Before the end of last season Mick Horton advised the NSSC that they were welcome to run the 50/50 in 2017 as long as the proceeds went to a 'Future home fund', not to the riders as usual. The NSSC canvassed regular ticket buyers at the ELRC, took a straw poll at an NSSC event and also a vote at the AGM. The overwhelming response was that supporters wished to continue donating the proceeds to the Storm riders and the Bees reserves. This conflicts with the Bees management's preferred use of the funds so the NSSC has reluctantly withdrawn from managing the 50/50 Draw.

Mick Horton thanked the NSSC for their efforts over the years.

  12. If anybody in the Coventry area fancies a speedway distraction to the events (or non events) happening 'up the road', we have Scottish legends Bert Harkins and Jim McMillan as guests of the NSSC tomorrow night, 26th January, at the Brandon Club (just down the road from the stadium). Tapes up at 8pm.

Everybody welcome, only £3 for non-members and all proceeds to Neil Vatchers' U16 Young Lions.

  13. So deadline day has come and gone with no further news......

I've no idea who are the good guys or the bad guys or who is right or wrong....but to be honest I've become rather ambivalent about the whole sorry mess.

Thanks to the toxic mix of Horton and Sandhu I'm losing my love of speedway.

  14. If you fancy a bit of good speedway news, for a change, take a look at the video of last Saturday's "Celebration of British Youth Speedway".

Held at the NSSC on behalf of Neil Vatcher, featuring six of this years seven British Champions, from Danny King to Dan Thompson and hosted by SKY's Steve Brandon.
