The last 3 years was from last season's regulations. Whether the rules for next season include that restriction or not remains to be seen.

I can't see that happening for two reasons. Firstly, most clubs operate at a loss and rely on the generosity of their owners to cover the losses. Therefore there will be far more losses to offset than profits. Secondly, it could be massively open to abuse if losses are pooled as individual club owners are no longer accepting all the risk. As for tax bills, I don't believe any club makes a net profit in the medium term, so tax isn't an issue.

On the scale of speedway's problems, no I'm not bothered.

This is definitely the kind of things that should be trialled in a few meetings, such as the KO Cup. See how it works in practice and then make an evidence-based decision.

Have you watched National League racing? In terms of on track action it is comparable to Premiership racing, at least at Swindon in 2017 when they ran a team in the National Trophy. Therefore "value for money" cannot refer to the quality of the racing. Is it perceived value? So ten years ago teams were full of GP stars and entrance was £15, today it is a hotchpotch of mid-level riders for £17. Maybe. I think the decline in terrace numbers is easier to explain. Over time people drift away from any product. They die. They move away. They become familiar and lose interest. The problem for speedway is that they have taken no steps to gain new fans, therefore gradually over time attendance will decline. Price is an issue in fans losing interest, but I don't think it is a major factor.

The National League is £5 cheaper than the Premiership. How do their attendances compare?

I'd hazard a guess that 99% of the British public have no idea how much it costs to attend speedway, therefore have no concept of whether it is "value for money" or not.

What would be the main objections to standardisation from a rider's perspective?

It doesn't work like that though. All it takes is one rider to break ranks and invest in the best equipment and that rider has an instant advantage. The other riders then have a choice, invest themselves or settle for being second best. In a sport where you are paid by the point the latter will never happen. The only way to cut equipment costs is by introducing standards across all riders in a league. I have no idea of the ins and outs, but it really shouldn't be that difficult and it seems in the best interests of both riders and clubs.

A rider doubling-up this season would have a maximum of 70 league and cup fixtures. Under one big league it would be a maximum of 46 and with a significantly lower chance of making the play-offs (assuming top 4 from 18). I make that a 35% reduction in meetings.

I don't have a problem with fixtures working around international commitments. The issue I see is where do you draw the line. GPs, GP Challenge, U21s so on? Given that people moan about the break for the SWC/SoN I can see that it wouldn't be long before fans are complaining about so many breaks in the fixture list to accommodate FIM events.

Remember double points, the reason that fans stayed away in their droves? Double points scrapped, no one blinks an eye.

One big league wouldn't deliver anywhere near the number of meetings that doubling-up currently does.

Who wants doubling up to end? The fans maybe, but I can't believe that riders (who earn more money) or clubs (who save on costs) would want it to end.

Not the likes of Ricky Wells, but what about Iversen, Cook, Fricke, Holder, Bewley, Lambert and so on? I disagree that speedway needs to run at weekends to attract new fans. There is no reason new fans cannot attend midweek meeting IF speedway actually made an effort to actually promote itself.

The whole point of fixed race nights is to avoid the inevitable clashes with the lower division, foreign leagues and the meetings as described above. I agree that attendances where significantly higher when clubs ran at weekends, but Britain was also the dominant league featuring all the world's top riders. Which of those (weekend meetings or top riders) was the biggest draw is open to debate.

GP Challenge meetings are both Saturday, Under 21s Individual was two Fridays, one Saturday and one Sunday and Team U21s was both Saturdays. Similarly for Robert Lambert, he rode in five SEC meetings (all Saturdays), two GP Challenge meetings, Four U21 individual meetings and two Speedway of Nations (one on Friday the other the following Saturday). The ship has sailed for Saturday speedway unless you want to run a league at the amateur level.

What would you do with riders like Dan Bewley? He rode in a GP Challenge qualifier, four World U21 Individual meetings and two Team U21 meetings. That's seven weekends where he was unavailable for a Saturday meeting in Britain. Should he not be signed by any club as he isn't 100% committed to British speedway?

Even without the 10 GP weekends, you would still lose riders on at least ten other weekends to the GP Challenge, World U21s, World Team U21s and Speedway of Nations.

Squeaky bum time for the stadium owners: I wonder how they are going to play out the above clause if permission is granted next week?

Planning permission for demolishing of the old stadium and construction of the new one has yet to be granted.
