I don't know about that decision, but the one he made in Heat 1 and when he excluded Gollob later in the meeting made him look a complete joke. Both decisions effectively stopped Tomasz making the semi-finals by 1pt and, as he had sorted out the track and his bike by then, he would have been a contender for the Final.

Great to see the "one track pony" proving his detractors wrong again. Congrats to Tomasz, looks bang in form at the moment and has some speed back in his motors. What an empty place the GPs will be when TG retires.

Lovely man, lovely rider, a huge loss in horrible circumstances. I remember speaking with him after the 1975 World Final at Wembley. A true gent and a credit to himself, his family, his country and his sport. Some of the best are taken at an early age.

Crayford? Now that was an interesting track. Wasn't it the smallest at one stage. And didn't Workington get beaten 65-12 there once? 1970 to 1985, a great era for speedway.

Thanks Norbold for the confirmation. Brooklands was my first introduction to speedway (and non-league football) and where I caught the bug. Woodcock, Gilbertson, Benham, Sanders, the late Kevin Holden, Brian Foote. Great times, great crowds, great memories. Remember John Louis and Tony Davey riding their in their early days. JL being completely unbeatable in that league.

Siggy was and is a very rich man and always had the best equipment, maintained superbly by his mechanic Kenny, and rode with a silky smooth style. Believe he only road in Britain from 1980-85 but built up a big fan base. Americans were really flavour of the day then. He was on the podium in an Individual World Championship and I was in the pits at Liverpool, Australia when he and Bobby Schwartz won the Pairs. John Berry replaced John Louis and Billy Sanders with Sigalos and John Cook and most Witches fans believed there was no love lost between Dennis and Billy, but that was so very far from the truth as they got on really well and shared workshops in Bucklesham for a couple of years. S&S formed a great double spearhead at Ipswich when Billy returned in 1983 (when Billy finished runner-up in bothe the Individual and Pairs World Final), before dennis was sold to Wolves and Billy captained Ipswich to the double in 1984. I believe that after Siggy retired due to a reported ankle injury he went on to become a world champion in some form of Powerboating. Scott Autrey will always remain my favourite USA rider, but Siggy was certainly up there with the best, if only for a very brief time.

I was at Saddlebow Road on the night of Brett's fatal accident, as the late Billy Sanders was riding for the Stars that season. Billy was Brett's idol and was thrilled to bits to get a chance at Kings Lynn. I was standing on the 2nd bend and remember that a rider in front of Brett fell going down the back straight before the 3rd bend. His bike bounced off the safety fence into Brett's path. I believe the rider was Ron Schliebs, an Australian who was mechanic for Billy at the time, but it may have been Nick Doncaster who crashed. Ron was in the race. I also believe that Billy was one of the first on the scene and was devastated by what he found. Brett had said that when he got a $10 head he would get a $10 dollar helmet, but it was obvious that a sub standard helmet contributed to the fatality. Brett's parents gave permission for some of his organs to be used in transplants and I remember some of the national press running the story that Brett's heart had been transplanted. I only really knew Brett through Billy, but he was a lovely young lad who just loved speedway. He was having a very good season at MK and there was no reason why he couldn't have progressed succesfully to the British League. Another very sad loss for motor sport and speedway in particular. Some of the best and nicest get taken early.

IMO, there will be one GB rider in SGP09 and that therefore will be Nicholls, despite never winning a GP and having gating, cornering, engine speed, team back-up and attitude problems. Lindgren, because there will be 2 Swedes, he won a GP in 08 and missed a GP this season. The others? Hampel should be, but didn't qualify and won't get in due to there being 4 Polish licensed riders already in in 09. Safjutdinov? Probably and hopefully. Holder would be an intersting addition and may just get in if Oz does hold an 09 GP (which I doubt due to the economics of it - unless it is scheduled 1st).

Are we suggesting that the 4 riders agreed to split the SuperGP pot, like they used to in the days of the old 2nd half finals? I was interested to see Nicki storm the tapes and Jason checking out something with Holta and TG before the re-run. I guess a guaranteed 1/4 of the total pot would make that an interesting suggestion.....?

IMO Nicki could win the next 3 SGPs if he stays, fit, focused & hungry. Personally, I don't think its good for any sport for 1 person to dominate it, but I can't see where the consistent challenge would come from for some time - Crump, Gollob, Hancock, Adams are not getting any younger - Andersen, maybe - AJ, not until he settles down - Lindgren, not yet - the Brits, no well maybe if Woffinden fulfills his potential REAL quick. The rest......? Maybe Chris Holder, but it generally takes a mature, experienced rider to win a SGP title.

So Drew, I trust you are not suggesting that all SGPs should be on temporary tracks to assist Greg to win the WC (World Championship - not Wild Card) again, lol......? Possibly, if no temporary tracks had been introduced into the SGP, then TG would have gained the title that his talent on a speedway bike deserves - imo. Well done to Rune for his direct entry into the SGP next season and his GP win this. Maybe if Mr Nicholls could get his head, bikes, riding and back up team together, he may win a GP and gain automatic entry in future.

That's sad Suggs. I lost the faith during the 80's for a number of reasons, but came back and found a new interest due to TG's ability on a speedway bike - not just at Byd. As I said, I don't think TG should be blamed for the German fiasco. It didn't look a banker home win after TG's first heat and he didn't win the Polish GP there earlier in the year, so imo it was not a foregone conclusion, paticularly with the pressure that was on him. It was good to see that making 3rd in the championship meant more than the money, and well done to Hans Andersen for congratulating TG on track for his GP win.

So Copenhagen is not a temporary track then.......? And he won in Krsko too - so not just Bydgoczcz then.....? I don't really care anyway, as I just love watchng the man ride a speedway bike and am so pleased that he has said that he will give it another go in the SGP next year. Another season to see a genius on a speedway bike.

Not TG's fault tonight's GP was re-arranged where it was.... Remember Greg won the Polish GP with TG only finishing 3rd.....

Congratulations Tomasz. Fantastic performance after giving everyone a head start from his 1st heat. 3 GP victories this season plus the Super GP. Nicki may be WC, but in my opinion Tomasz is the best current speedway rider. AJ showed again with his antics in heats 20 & 22 that Gollob should not have been blamed at all for Jonsson's crash in heat 19 in Gothenburg. Best news is that TG looks to want to take part in the SGP again next year. Well done all the riders A great GP season.

Congrats to Nicki - head and shoulders the most consistent GP rider this year and now a 3 times World Champion with more possibilities ahead.

"Gollob is a hothead, and always has been". Oh My God, what a load of rubbish. Tomasz is one of the fairest, cleanest, most sporting riders there is. I believe you confuse brilliance on a speedway motor bike with your idea of being a hothead. The only reason he didn't make the final is that he is a true racer who believed he had a clean run on Crump who, having bounced of the fence, had already lost his balance and took a dive when he found Tomasz inside him. The same as Nicki did against Crump. Gollob would have stayed on his bike, Crump decided not to. It was so pleasing tonight to see TG beat Nicki fair and square in Heat 17.
