I thought I remembered that Tim Hunt and John Louis had a coming together at Foxhall on the 3rd/4th bends when JL came back with Halifax in 1981 and thought that Tim Hunt moved from Ipswich to Reading in 1982, a year after JL had left the Witches.
Certainly remember Hunt going ape, storming around on the track and losing it big time. All this after JL had mentored Hunt in his early career. And I was disappointed with the reaction of the Witches supporters, including one who went on to be the Team Manager, around me that evening, who all had a go at Louis after his tremendous service to the Club. It's ok supporting your team, but another, in my book, having a go like that at one of your club's greatest ever riders.
I'd like to bet a few of those around you that evening have recently spent £16 and queued patiently to have JL sign their copy of his autobiography!

Jens Rasmussen was a dirty bugger. The way he took Richard Knight out in the 1985 KOC final at Foxhall was shocking.
Knight had to be physically held back in the pits to stop him going after Rasmussen!
Also, I'd feel feel sorry for any rider who had Preben Eriksen and Tim Hunt against them in the same race!

I'd like to see him as Witches team manager. At least he's thrown his leg over a bike in anger...
(Yes, I know Brian Messenger hasn't, but he's the exception)

I always thought they didn't play AWITBF anymore because it was the late John Earrey's "signature" tune.
Saying that, it would be nice to hear it again once more for old times sake!
Or these...

I joined that page a while ago. It is a good page especially for the old photos and the "Where Are They Now" piece.
What annoys me is the amount of times people post things as "If you need to win the league/cup and you need a 5-1, who would you put in?" I reckon that question is asked weekly.

I reckon we've been spoilt at Foxhall. Firstly John Earrey then Kevin Long.
At least they don't have that Foz fellow as much as they did. Stick to the drivetime show!

I'm going to this one. My first visit to Rye House since the Witches rode in the BSPA Cup (Remember that?) in 1991.
What's the best way to get there? A12/M25/A10 or A12/A120 and across country?
Or shall I have my usual Saturday night and stay at hoom and watch Britain's Got Talent & Casualty??
(I'll record the GP so I can fast forward the boring bits....)

They not the only ones being sponsored by them though are they? (Andersen, Batchelor, Nicholls) many more in the past.
Maybe its that the current promotion don't want any "help" from local sponsors as they think they know best?
Maybe its because local sponsors wouldn't get value for money?
Or maybe Ipswich speedway haven't enquired?

If it's the company I'm thinking of, they have in the past sponsored riders and both team and individual meetings from the early 1980's.
Saying that, I haven't seen them sponsor a meeting or rider for a few years now.

After what I've seen on Good Friday it must be Lewis Blackbird.

Leigh Lanham for manager anyone?
There must have been a reason Morten Risager was give a team place ahead of him....

I'm going up regardless.
If it's rained off, there's always plan B. We'll got to the Gaumont to see Return Of The Jedi.
Oh hang on, it's not 1983. We'll got to Cineworld instead!

I was looking forward to a close meeting last night. A win is a win they say but apart from Wilko, Redcar were pretty awful.
Cameron Heeps gets better everytime I see him ride (which isn't as often as I'd like!)
A good all round performance by the Witches.

Good times! Could you ask him to bring some Justice Bros. stickers please?!
I've dug out my old ex-Siggy Justice Bros cap for him to sign again as the original autograph has faded!

This debate about Press and Practice (section 7 [v]) seems to crop up every year, so here is the very detailed operating formula for Foxhall Stadium so you can see the restrictions that both Spedeworth and Ipswich Speedway have to work to:
http://www.suffolkco...ula20082013.pdf
That is one hell of a document. It's a wonder the stadium can operate at all with the "You can do this but not that" attitude
I can remember the first year that spectators were not allowed entrance to press and practice a few years back, the reason given was that the previous year, a handful of spectators broke an apparent agreement not to venture to certain parts of the stadium!
It was ok to watch as long as you didn't leave the home straight stand and go round the terracing onto the first and second bends and beyond as I remember.
But not everyone does as they are asked do they?

Hey shrimpfan that's even better. Believe it or not its for my fathers funeral. Speedway was the biggest love in his life (apart from mum) and he wanted this played. Thank you very much..
No probs. Glad to be of help!
Sorry to hear of your loss,

Sorry, a bit off topic, but can anyone tell me what the music is when the riders are at the tapes. Thank you
I can't say I've really noticed. Always used to be Rossini's William Tell overture, but might have changed.
This is the tune used, based on Rossini's William Tell Overture.
They use the fanfare for the start of the race, and sometimes used to use the rest of the song for the victory parade.

Remember Rob Tilbury involved in a stramash at Ipswich in 1989, can't remember the Ipswich rider he was involved with but he tried to pull him off his bike after the race and then the usual fisticuffs in the pits.Sure a few others got involved as the pits at Ipswich weren't the hardest to get access to in those days!!!Wasn't it Pete Chapman who Tilbury had a scuffle with?

i seem to remember gresh sorting billy sanders and john berry once at the height of the crump - sanders wars in early 80s.JB mentions that in one of his books. Apparently Gresh caught him one near his clods, and left a big bruise.

What about Neville Slee? Or was he an Aussie...
-
Why do most people think he was born in Kent?I thought he was born in Ipswich, a stones throw from Foxhall Stadium.

Does anyone know the exact date (day & month) of 1985 16-lapper at Ipswich ?Hi Champion.
The 1985 16 Lapper at Ipswich was held on Thursday 25th July, sponsored by The (Daily) Mirror, GM and Trevor Hedge Racing
It was won overall by Kenny Carter, with Simon Wigg second and Preben Eriksen third.

Does anyone know if there are still places vacant in any Hotels in Cardiff for the GP in June? Typical me - leaving it til now!I don't really want to pay £200 for a room either. If not, it'll be drive up, drive down.
I've been trying as well. It seems all the hotels and B&B's were booked within a few days of the date being announced.
The nearest seem to be at least 20-30 miles away. I thought about staying at a Travelodge/Holiday Inn on th M4, (Newbury, family room £15 for the night!) but after doing the maths, Newbury is not even half way from here.

Hmm. Foz or Wayne Bavin for presenter?
It's like being asked if you would like to be poked in the left eye or the right...
I'd like to see James Hazell from Radio Suffolk give it a go. Witty, funny and not at all dreary.
