    Peterborough Panthers 2023

Each day that passes without construction is costing AEPG money and today has cost them a fortune hiring a bailiff to serve notice on a Gypsy encampment that turned up late last night on the land adjacent to the Harvester, the land AEPG have let become a wasteland/jungle because they sold the grass cutting equipment and got rid of most of the staff. Once the encampment (about 30 vehicles) have gone, the land will need about 400 metres of stronger fencing and barriers erecting. AEPG have to be haemorrhaging money at a fair rate of knots, I wonder how much money they actually have, companies house suggests not a lot. https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/people/fence-broken-as-travellers-set-up-camp-at-peterboroughs-east-of-england-showground-4247042

I’m not sure anyone wants another three years like the last two years.

Who knows what they will do, but there are things that can be done to protect the track, pits and grandstand until the planning application has been approved.

I’d like to know how anyone can ‘save’ the club when it won’t have a racetrack after October 31st.

That’s about the strength of it.

No. Discussions take place with AEPG, they run the Showground, they make the decisions on the development of the Showground. They are the EoEAS chosen developer.

AEPG Don’t own anything, they are tenants with a remit to develop the land, they only get paid, as do the EoEAS, when something is built. They can’t build anything without planning approval, one would assume that AEPGs contract with EoEAS says they have to maintain the Showground until something is built. The EoEAS still own the Showground.

Stop getting people’s hopes up, this is the last season.
  9. Hans has left free caps on the admission gate for the first 50 children who arrive for this evening’s meeting.

Sub let to them by AEPG, a car maintenance company, they have just got planning approval for change of use to a paint shop and car maintenance, but crucially their car storage retrospective planning application has not been approved, there are currently over 100 registered objections including one from National Highways. AEPG have treated local residents with contempt over this and their decision to not cut the grass on site, indeed parts of the Showground are now like a jungle, the residents have been stirred (with a gentle nudge from me) into action.

It’s got nothing to do with any former promoter, discussions have taken place and it’s a firm no. Misguidedly AEPG do not want any sitting tenants, their logic being that it will make LP30 invalid. It won’t. LP30 will still be valid if there is no Speedway at The Showground next year, this has been confirmed to me by a Senior Independent Planning Consultant. Of course there will be ways around this, and then that is when people should start airing their voices, when we actually get to view the plans. In any case would anyone really want to endure another season like the last two at The Showground? I’m pretty certain most of the staff wouldn’t.

    That’s simply not true.

Unfortunately a farewell meeting at Peterborough is unlikely due to the amount of fixtures they have left and anyway the length of time to organise anything is not viable. Thanks for for your comments though.

    Pboro vs kings Lynn

I’m 400 metres from the track it has rained continuously from 11pm Sunday until about midday today. It chucked it down again at 4pm for over an hour. Given it rained all day on Saturday as well, I would say the correct decision was made.

    Survival of The Premiership?

Speedway in the U.K. has been broken for years, decades in fact, every year I think it can’t get any worse and it always does. Expectations need to be dramatically lowered, Speedway in the U.K. needs to be semi professional/amateur racing to survive as a sport instead of putting a sticking plaster on it every November.

I am not surprised the meeting is off following the rain all day yesterday. Even if the track was managed to be salvaged there would be nowhere to park as the hard standing area of parking at the Showground is being currently used for vehicle parking and maintenance for an as yet unapproved retrospective planning application venture and furthermore the Showground custodians haven’t bothered to cut the grass in the surrounding fields (where people would normally park) for weeks and in places the grass and weeds are about three foot high and obviously now hold a lot of water. It has the look and feel of an area that is being deliberately run into the ground. I have made my observations to our local councillor.

The person who said he had been dropped did so a couple of days before he rode at Leicester. He then got injured two days later practicing in Denmark and was advised to rest for seven days, he supplied a medical certificate to the club. He is scheduled to return to racing next week as long as his injury has cleared up, which I think it will have. There’s no hmmm about it.
