A gamble yes but for every TV meeting perhaps the promoters should charge £5 per adult and £1 for anyone under 16"

Why has this not already been discussed - pre-season by the BSPA? Wasn't it? The problem could be very clearly seen last season at several tracks. DO IT NOW! it may be a 'gamble" but seeing almost no-one bothering to watch in the stadium in a definite turn off. Why would someone be tempted to go to their local track? This is as vital a part of marketing as anything else.

If the Tv coverage pays the Bills throw the gates open , some may come back next week and pay ,you never know

  2.

This was absolutely ludicrous. Chapman should hang his head in shame.

How can Bewley (who was not even considered good enough to be put into the 32 for the British semi-finals) be "too good" to be a track reserve for the British Final?

(incidentally Jack Parkinson-Blackburn - highest NL average, even above Bewley - was OK to be track reserve for the British semi-final).

In any case, surely the point of having a track reserve is to replace an excluded/withdrawn rider and ensure that the remaining 3 riders are kept honest and not gifted a point without trying?

If you only want a track reserve to be miles away at the back out of contention, then there's no point in having him at all.

Is Chapman really telling us that he was worried that an 18-year-old with 1 season's experience, might score a point in the British Final and this would embarrass the sport?

Yet he doesn't see that putting an Australian in the BRITISH Final and having him stood on the rostrum actually is embarrassing the sport in Britain??

The lunatics are running the asylum.

TBH .I cant imagine Bewley .really being that bothered . Him along with the rest of British speedway know full well he will be IN the British final next year , and at the rate he's progressing In with a good chance of winning it

  3. A really decent night a great night for Cook he deserved it the track was so good different lines for everyone to attack.Three incidents that stuck out for me were when Cook was really brutal on S.Worrall.Yet when S. Worrall and Lawson had chances to do the same to Cook they didnt maybe that is difference between winning and losing.?

No idea on that ,but it is the difference between being a rider who everybody likes ,and a rider who most people only tolerate

  4. I'm not having this "he only won because of home track advantage" nonsense, especially with regards to Cook.

He's absolutely flying this season, I don't think it would have mattered where this meeting was Cook would still likely have won.

Congratulations to him on being the '2017 British Speedway Champion'.

Can't agree with would have won on any track ,because that is certainly not correct , however on this night on this track ,he was a deserving winner , man of the match for me Ben Barker , and seeing his Manager /Pit crew. I fully understand why Chris Harris has never achieved his real potential ,

  5. British youngsters have so many things to choose from these days - they don't have the same dedication as someone who has left their native Country, travelled thousands of miles to race Speedway.

The Australians have left home and family and family comforts in a bid to increase their abilities as Speedway Riders. Our lads just finish their Speedway practice and go home. That I think is part of the problem, the Aussies have to work harder to keep themselves, they don't have the comfort of being able to go home.

I think that dedication has a lot to do with it.

If you are British and want to get on in speedway but you are not that great or short of money ,best thing to do would be to change your name to Shane , and get some acting lessons on how to speak like an Aussie , then you will have a van sponsors , and promoters falling over themselves to offer you team places , best thing about this approach ,If you are not an instant heat leader it wont matter you can just cruise along improving at your own pace while being paid , if theres an english rider at the same place on the learning curve ,it's them who will get dropped ,while you happily continue under achieving

  6. Just to let everyone know that Ann did come to Speedway on Tuesday and had a wonderful time with our team and met some great new friends both from the Island and Birmingham. The great news is that she is hooked again on the sport and will be a regular at the Warriors from now. A win, win. I want to say I have been amazed at people’s response to this. For me, I did it because I hate the thought of anyone listening to speedway through an open window on race night.... in all honesty it brought back memories of when I was young and played up and my parents punished me by not allowing me to speedway - it was torture :) But to have fans contact me to pay her entry and other things, was amazing. Perhaps, if we concentrate on the great things about our sport from our fans, our lords and masters, our riders, our officials, our sponsors and speedway as a whole, we will for sure be in a better place.

I have learnt that being positive and believing in what you do is a very powerful thing, for sure we all get frustrated - and we have had a lot of frustration this year, but I truly believe in what we do. I truly believe in our staff. I am truly thankful for all our sponsors. I am truly thankful for everyone who steps through our gate because they also believe and share our vision. This is why I believe in the Warriors and the Warrior Way.

I am not ashamed to tell you all that it is so hard at times, it eats money like no one can believe, even at our level, when a rain off during a meeting wipes out a substantial amount of sponsorship because of all the costs associated with it... and I know we have more due to being on an Island (about 1k in ferry costs) but it will hurt any club.

But the upside are times like on Tuesday with Ann, the speedway school, last heat deciders, fans faces, kids laughing, the Warrior Way affecting kid’s lives for the better, community, unity, vision and belief... now all we need to do is grow it, grow the belief, grow the vision and things will improve, crowd power is massive.... a good time creates an even better time the week after as they tell their friends.... and the cycle continues.

Finally, clubs are beginning to follow some of our ideas, and some are even being creative themselves, which is just great news. Enjoy your speedway wherever you go, try to big up the good stuff and be constructive where it needs it.... we listen, we try to influence others, and if you can come to the Island do try to come, we appreciate travellers because we do it each week too, but I will guarantee you a great time. Come grab me I am always in yellow and blue.

    See you trackside.

    Barry

There are still people holidaying in the IOW who dont know the speedway exists , had a friend go recently and |i said you can go to speedway on thursday ,he came back and said I never saw anything about speedway , he could be walking around with blinkers on .or there may still be work to do ?

  7. I couldn't agree more.

Awards have bog all to do with deserve .otherwise Chris Hoy , Bradley Wiggins etc . would still be just that , while Nigel Boocock would be Sir Nigel . and the remaining 2 members of the Who would be sir Pete and sir Roger ,, Pete and Rogers charity work has so far Brought in 10 million for teenage cancer wards , what has Wiggins or Hoy done that makes them deserving ?

  8.

Reading the article as translated into English it does say that FL did ask for the fuel line filter to be taken out to increase performance. Yes it could be the start of a slippery slope. Take out or reduce the efficiency of the lev limiter would not make the GTR much different to what we have with other engine manufacturers, would it?

taking the fuel filter out , does'nt affect the lev limit , don't think they have lev limiters on them anyway . depends more on how much Bleakfast you have had

  9. What do you suggest then? Just keeping practising after meetings, no competitive speedway until when?

here's my suggestion , kids should start out practising , and also ride in the junior classes at amateur meetings , then when they are sufficiently skilled and comfortable , should join the British youth championship (Competitive racing in meetings with kids of similar age and ability ) these meetings are all at weekends not interfering with school or Their main sponsors at this point , mum and dad's work , Once they are 15 and not before , they should be riding in MDL, NJL,or SDL on 500ccc bikes , competitive racing in a structured team atmosphere , This final step of course ,will require a massive change of attitude by the promoters ,SCB and BSPA , because at the moment all 3 leagues are being treated as another income stream by the BSPA , and as if it's something nasty the promoters have trodden in , all premiership and championship clubs should have a team in one or other league , where curfew may be a problem ,run the junior league event before the main match , junior leagues are subject to all the rules and a few extra regulations of professional leagues , yet are treated as some sort of sideshow ,to be cancelled at a whim of track staff or any other reason , that has to stop , these are the stepping stones to the national league and beyond and need to be shown the same respect as the leagues they are feeding , then we might see some future mainstays of british speedway coming through , not getting to 17 and quitting the sport

Apologies for taking this slightly off topic

I've just read that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has been awarded the Knights Cross of The Order of Dannebrog.

    This is a Danish Knighthood

So have any of the countries speedway riders been honoured in this way or OBE etc if the Danes also have those type of awards

Chris Morton MBE , Kelvin Tatum MBE , Ivan Mauger MBE

  10. Difficult one!

On the one hand you have the Hemsley-style bulldung completely estranged from reality, and on the other hand this type of approach which does make you wonder which planet Mr Lynch is living on.

Why does it seem to be so difficult to find and appoint a team manager who is able to take the right approach. I don't think Norrie Allan is the answer, though.

has Jim lynch ever been successful ?, I can only really remember him at Peterborough. but don't know his track record ,, certainly has to be better than Norrie Allen , or Hemsley being operated with his wifes hand up the back of his jumper

  11. making your way in British speedway is no fun at all , it costs far too much and the fun is drained out of it by jumped up nododies and Billy no mates , thinking they are king of the world and pushing kids to take risks they wouldn't dream of taking themselves for a couple of hours a week

  12. I used to supply Alf Weedon ,with T shirts for his track shops , he always had a story to tell and knew everybody who was anybody in speedway , i said to him a few times you should write a book Alf , but he never got round to it which was a shame because it would have been an interesting read to say the least ..

  13. I think having an older rider is not just about passing on knowledge, these teams like those above are a business and it has to remain attractive to fans therefore the side must be competitive, since you can't go abroad to strengthen then you must look at home to try and find ways of helping a weak team, the only way is to utilise experienced riders who are very much winding down in their careers.

Biggest problem the sport has and Ive been saying it for years is that it's too expensive to get into, not enough youngsters take it up because of costs, not only is there a shortage of riders in the top two leagues that means many riders ride in both we even have the situation where some riders like Zach W ride for two different teams at the same level albeit in different competitions.

We constantly hear riders saying they don't ride enough, why is this when before doubling up/down it was never an issue.

In the old National League riders would have had 30 to 34 league meetings a season and in between meetings they would have another job.

If there were youngsters knocking on the door to be riders then the current NL could be filled with riders under 25, once you get passed that age the chances of picking it up to a good level reduce unless your a John Louis.

so if you don't have rich parents who also have the time to take you everywhere , and you reach 25 ,you should just take up bowls ? what about the lads who are happy to ride in the Nl and have no ambition to become professional riders , or the ones who are realistic enough to know that speedway is never going to pay the bills so it has to be fitted in with fulltime work . lets take them out as well . maybe the NL season could be run from the end of June till the end of August ,so as not to interfere with school terms , lets attract a lot of Kids Like Josh Bailley . or Jack Parkinson Blackburn , chuck a team place at them the minute they are 15 and have them burned out and quitting at 17 , or maybe lads like Chris Hay ,shaun Phillips , adam extance , cameron hoskins , james whyte williams , give them all teram places long before they are ready and when they are not GP standard in a few weeks , demoralise them by dropping them in favour of the next wonder kid .

Doyle is the new Tomasz Gollob , who will step forward and be the new Craig Boyce ,personally I can't wait to see it

dont think that will happen as Jason Doyle is more likely to do a Craig Boyce on other riders as he is not frightened of having a tear up and he has had a few !!

mardyarsed whining Aussies don't scare the Poles . sure somebody will .if not a rider .a mechanic ,or team manager definitely will

  15. Pawlicki makes a perfect start gets a warning , Doyle goes through tapes but gets no warning ,think this rule needs dropping

Overall a good meeting, just "too slow" in getting going. Pity they do not have 4 heats before the main GP (non GP riders of course, just to settle the track in.

Doyle did well to turn it around after just qualifying for the semis.

Hancock deserved his 18 points. Perhaps after what PhilRising just said maybe Tai needs to switch tuners (or perhaps he did - oops).

Biggest disappointment tonight - well two actually - Fast Freddie (perhaps still not fully fit) and Emil, who was a shadow of what he can do - bike just not fast enough and missing most starts.

Emil just let anybody push him anywhere seemed as if he was scared to race .

  16. A local mx track had it's main electricity box stolen this spring. At 1230 on a bright and sunny saturday afternoon the outgoing live cable was axed and that killed all e-surveillance in the area. Next night the whole box was stolen...

Would be surprised if the bike was "successfully" sold back to speedway anywhere. All the parts were probably labelled with a Foxy-print, so would be somewhat impossible to tell a cover story how you're selling used parts or bike so cheap... But you never know.

I havent seen any foxy stuff on jacks bikes , his wheels are very special though , anodized with orange and black splatters , they would be immediatley recognisable ,
