  1. Horrific crash. Carter clipped Gary Chessell when he fell and basically rode straight into the fence and ended up slumped on his bike wrapped in the wire meshing - so lucky to miss the uprights.
  2. Classic Jim Lynch. Loses his team the meeting with absolute ineptitude!!
  3. Please someone teach Pearson the rules!
  4. What a collection of team manager cock-ups these last few heats have been!
  5. ok. That's the confusion. cheers
  6. Great work from the Mighty Rosco Get well soon Dany
  7. Andersson rode for Glasgow in 1968 I believe.
  8. 1978 and 1976 were the years that saw an influx of mediocre or 'past their best' Poles. Although his record for Swindon was woeful at the time, later form suggested Raba would have probably come good. He was a little unlucky as he got injured which meant he actually only appered in one BL heat at home, with his other four matches all being away. I would agree that Proch was the best of the '76 group by some distance.
  9. Might as well chuck God Save The Queen in the bin at Cardiff if Schlein wins. Tiny Kangaroo Down Sport more appropriate with him and Woffinden in town.

    Speedway Star

That particular feature is desperate. I assume it's trying to portray speedway as cool by having such 'famous' followers.
  11. Apart from obvious ones like Craven and Ronnie Moore, I would like to have seen Tadeusz Teodorowicz.

  15. He had a big pile-up with Per Jonsson and Jan Andersson in the opening meeting of 1988 against Getingarna. He broke a wrist and dislocated a shoulder, it definitely made him a more circumspect rider from then on,
  16. Jimmy was pretty raw when he first came over and was edge-of-the-seat stuff. He did become pretty dull from the late eighties onwards and was pretty reliant on his gating. He was also somewhat embarrassing to watch at Exeter (bar one standout meeting)
  17. Why would riders care if the team wins or loses? They'll all be off to ride for a different one the next day anyway.

Is There A Need For Guest Riders?

Steve Roberts and moxey63 sum up my view nicely and encapsulates one of the main reasons I too stopped going after 30+ years. It, along with a small doubling-up for squad riders, was always a necessary evil in certain circumstances but the whole sport in the UK has become transfixed with what the riders want to the exclusion of anything else.

    Wolves 2017

Absolutely spot on. It's just become a circus with the same riders rocking up in different team suits. It's no longer a team sport representative of the towns and cities the clubs are suppossed to represent. The riders have way too much power and the sport serves them before it's lifeblood; the fans.

    Somerset V Swindon 21/4/17

I don't think it does - the "if permitted by Art 18.10" statement points to otherwise and muddies the waters.

You can't run even a vaguely professional sport on one-off agreements. It's supposed to be a level playing field for all clubs. Just when I get an inkling to give the sport another go, something ridiculous always comes along and reminds me why I shouldn't. The sport is an utter farce...

    Somerset V Swindon 21/4/17

Even if it does turn out to be FIM affiliated, people are still ignoring the "if permitted by Art 18.10" statement.

    Somerset V Swindon 21/4/17

But 18.10.1 then refers to "if permitted by Art 18.10" - therefore the definitive answer is in ART 18.10. That says R/R only for 2-5. Oh, and of course the small matter that 18.10.1 is nullified by the fact it isn'ta FIM meeting Hougaard is at. it's nonsense!

So you're suggesting the ART 18.10 element only applied to the choice of R/R in this instance - looking at ART 18.10, only reserves (obviously) can't be covered by R/R anyway and a guest is permitted in this circumstance only, for a team position that is normally only covered by R/R? If so, that rule is incredibly clumsily worded and has been mis-interpreted by a large proportion of fans And it isn't a FIM meeting anyway, it'll be DMU - confused?!!!
