In the unlikely event that happens, it would partly be the fault of promoters who train up riders from other countries in preference to young British riders.

For all their superb training of young riders, Denmark should be very grateful for the experience we have allowed their riders to gain in our leagues, which has definitely accelerated their progress.

GB U-21 is rebuilding, several riders having passed the 21 yo mark last year. We don't even have a rider in the World U-21 final. But in 2 or 3 years another batch of young riders will be making their mark at international level.

Don't be so negative!

The BSPA and ACU need to act quickly to secure the future of the sport in this country. At least the Under 15's is a step in the right direction but we have a big gap to fill now that Harris, Howe, Stead, Allen etc have moved on. It will be tough but the talent is out there but needs to be supported and brought on through a system which supports youth development.

No seems as good a time as any to split the CL and have a true 3rd division and a reintroduction of Youth Development League 2nd half's where only British nationality and riders say under 21 or even 19 are eligable. All the I am sure would suit some promotors who are keen to bring on youngsters without the costs of full stand alone meetings.

I fear the CL is maybe has too many foreign riders for the benifit of Team GB's future at the moment.

Think you're confusing negative with realistic.

The current batch of u21 are the poorest we've had in a long long time.

Long term, the likes of Daniel King and Eddy Kennett may well make it. However, there is a big age gap between Richardson and Nicholls - mid 20's - to these boys.

Of the riders in between, only Simon Stead (imo) looks even remotely likely to be top notch.

With all due respect to him, the fact Richie Hawkins is our u-21 champion but didn't make the World Final speaks volumes of the current crop from 18-21 years old.

Historically most of the English riders who have been really world class have been instant heat leaders - Lee, Collins, Carter, Havelock instantly spring to mind, very few 'slow burners' make it anywhere near that far - possibly Lee Richardson excepted.

Things look bleak for Team GB once the likes of Nicholls and Richardson move on.

Why on earth should Denmark be grateful for this ?

We have some riders going or, should we even say, are getting headhunted by the English clubs. In fact I believe they are getting to UK because they do have something to give to the clubs.

Of course the young riders will gain of this agreement too, but in many situations I belive it is a matter of mutual gaining, and not only the young rider.

In some situations the young rider is travelling to another country to try his fortune and the rider does not have the same success here as in his home country. This rider will then, maybe after a few chances, be returned as garbage.

It takes a great deal of confidence to move to another country, talk the language, get settled and at the same time fullfill every ones expectations.

Of course this process is contributing to some kind of acceleration, bur it surdenly has some dark sides as well.

BTW I can't see how Denmark comes into a thread about the U/21 match between Sweden and England. ;)
