Australian U 16 Pairs Teams Titles Report

Guest lucious artorius castas

Attended Somersby again last night for the running of the Australian U/16

Teams Championship. Some may call it a pairs event.

The Best pair on the night were the Victorian #1 Team comprised of the

Sedgman Brothers, Ryan and Justin who displayed the best teamwork

throughout the meeting, and recorded three 5-1 heat victories in their last

three rides to convincingly win the title by 4 points from the South

Australian combination of Individual Champion Jason Norman and Robert

Medson. Norman dropped just one point (to his partner) in recording a 17

point score.

Third place after a run-off was the [/b]N.S.W. #1 combination of Sam Masters

and Rohan Tungate with 19 points, after Masters defeated Victorian #2 team

rider Toby Proctor in a run-off after they had tied with 19.

Masters was a busy boy throughout the programme also participating in the

Australia Cup Junior Sidecar events, and competed in no less than 12 races

during the programme.

Some terrific racing on the 105 metre Somersby circuit with in the main the

number 1 rider in the pair being the dominant rider throughout the night,

but one felt the Sedgman brothers were going to be the team to beat with

Ryan just dropping 2 points from his 6 rides and Justin being the best

"second string" on show. He certainly performed the important role of

keeping the opposition riders behind him once Ryan had taken the lead.

Jason Norman was undoubtedly the best rider on show peeling off 5 wins

before he shepherded home his less experienced partner in their final

outing when a 5-1 decision was going to give them second place. At that

stage no less than 3 teams were locked in second place on 16 points, and

another on 15, so while the Sedgman boys were undoubtedly the best on show,

there was not a great deal between a number of other combinations, and one

or two points here and there were ultimately the difference between a

rostrum place and 4th or 5th.

The Junior Sidecars really turned on some great action on a very tight

circuit. There were a few little bingles, particularly on the first bend

but all in all they were a worthy addition to the programme and an

appreciative crowd would have been happy with what they saw.

South Aussie Dylan Irwin won the A Final quite convincingly after defeating

his brother Jesse, with Tamworth's Rob Dunn taking the third spot in the final.

Once again quite a number of senior riders in attendance, and I would like

to thank Leigh Adams and Travis McGowan for sharing their experiences when

interviewed over the PA. It really makes Peter and my job as announcers

quite simple when riders like Leigh, Travis and many others make it so

simple to hear their thoughts. Both were very successful in their junior

days and can easily recall how they competed not that long ago.

Thanks also to former Australian Sidecar Champion Gary Moon for assisting

with the presentations.
