Gordon Kennett

Recommended Posts

A very classy rider in his prime particularly at Arlington where he was a world beater.

In the early eighties when Cradley were dominant it was always a feature seeing Gordon up against the top Heathens and quite often he came out on top.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but didn't he have to overcome diabetes to keep his career going, another fine feat.

At the time I always thought Gordon somewhat over-rated.  Granted that he won his WC runners-up spot fair and square, but I never thought of him as being second best rider in the world.  He was a bit of a start tart - can't recall him doing much from the back, though I guess I was spoiled having been brought up on a diet of PC and Mort!  In retrospect, I'd class Gordon as a professional and worthy rider, not as exciting as some but very capable in his own quiet way.

You have got to be having a laugh Andy.

One of the best riders from the back I have ever seen, and the first one I ever saw take all 3 others from behind in an individual meeting. Mind you, he never could ride Belle Vue.

A superb rider, undoubtedly one of my all-time favourites and an absolute professional.

Does anyone see him now ?

He does make the odd appearance at Arlington and looks no older than when he last rode. B)
