Tim Templeton 43 Posted May 23, 2008 Sorry to report that Cecil Bailey passed away yesterday. He was 89, and rode for Southampton and Plymouth. I last saw him at the California-in-England late last year. Tim.
oddfossengen 1 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) thanks for original posting tim .yes sadly cecil passed away yesterday22.05.08 after a long battle with alzhiemers . cecil was born in liverpool but moved southampton at an early age as his father was a docker. cecils interest in bikes started young, after the war like many young men he tried his luck at speedway .and jimmy baxter saw the potential and signed him for the saints his rise was metioric to say the least and his personal highlights were beating the legendary saints rider alf bottoms and winning noive of the year from the speedway press.however after a couple of seasons cecil transferd to plymouth as he refused to ride with bill rogers a rider he considered reckless .but the move to plymouth didnt work out and cecil soon returned to the saints.but the fire was gone and cecil retired and worked for alec bennett motorcycles .he was then drawn to scrambling and represented england in the moto cross des nations he was also a competent trials rider.but what most people remember him for is his photograpy he was track photographer at poole and southampton and also worked for the motorcycle news covering road racing events etc. the word legend would not sit easy on cecils shoulders he was avery quite shy reserved man ,but to those who knew him cecil was a legend r.i.p cecil Edited May 23, 2008 by oddfossengen
