That honour goes to Ian Barney

I reckon Ian Gledhill runs him close

Only in our wonderful sport of Speedway that the holder of the title cannot defend his crown.:mad:

If Ashworth had been good enough throughout the season then he would have qualified.

Both Bach and and McGowan have had excellent seasons, and deserved a wildcard slot. :approve:

Agree there diamondsrock, only fair to go with the riders who qualify, nice to see Rene Bach given a shot he's one of my favourite riders to watch.

Personally think that the fairest and correct route was taken in deciding the wildcards. It should be the 16 best riders. The chosen two have performed over the year and are substantially better than most teams number 1's, they deserve their shot at glory.

The field is fairly wide open, but my money would be on Screen, Fisher or Lyons, or Howe (if he rides like he can) or Bach or Larson or... sod it, god knows who'll win!

alternatively, do you think south africa should have qualifield for the world cup finals this year or england not allowed to defend their world cup in 1970 ????

(i can see both points of view btw)

Since when has the holder of any major domestic event ever been seeded straight to the final the following year  If the meeting was being staged at Brandon for example, no one would be giving two shiny ones whether Ashworth qualified or not, he failed to quailfy and thats that. He isnt the first title holder who hasnt been able to defend his title and he wont be the last. If you want to start all that crap then why werent Workington - for example - not given a chance to defend their fours title this year?

It's not an open meeting, it's the top riders of the year who qualify.
