The Diamond H Belle Vue Colts moved into second place in the Midland Development League table thanks to a 22-14 victory over Sheffield's Tiger Cubs at Owlerton on Thursday night.

The Tiger Cubs had the individual star of the night in Rye House National League rider Luke Chessell, who went through his three rides unbeaten, but it was the greater strength-in-depth of the Colts which saw them home.

Chessell was fastest away in heat 1, with Max Clegg coming through into second place, as David Holt in third ensured that the points were equally divided.

15-year-old Michael Neale took heat two for Belle Vue with teammate Shaun Tedham following him home to give the Colts a four point lead.

Chessell took another comfortable win in heat 3 in the fastest time of the match, but again the points were shared as partner Dave Lidgett retired at the back.

Clegg anticipated the start brilliantly in heat 4, but had to do it all again as the referee surprisingly called an unsatisfactory start. In the re-run he again made the gate, being joined by teammate Neale for a second 5-1

Holt challenged Chessell strongly on the opening lap of heat 5 before the Tiger Cubs No.1 started to pull away. Tedham tucked in behind Holt to ensure a share of the spoils.

The Colts looked set to finish the meeting in style with a 5-1 from their two 15-year-olds, but the unlucky Michael Neale was denied his paid maximum by a broken primary chain on the third lap.
