Wolverhampton 2014

Recommended Posts

With averages the way they are and the points limit there is no room to do anything dramatic and can only be like for like unless you rebuild the whole team.

While he hasn't had a great season here, would you really think about dropping the World Champion on a modest 7.5 average ?

Ricky Wells is back over a 6 average, yes he has easier rides than last season but he is scoring well

Jacob Thorssell is progressing into a great rider and is only 21 this week

Piotr Pawlicki is out of this conversation as he is clearly the one bright part

So that only leaves Ty Proctor who hasn't done what was needed and with the other four either doing their job or in the case of Tai capable of so much more, you can only replace Ty with like for like

Peter Ljung 5.48 would be good but he isnt committed to England .... unless he fell out with Leicester for another reason

Ryan Fisher 5.42 does ok at Monmore and is local but currently injured

Eddie Kennett 5.25 was a potential British Champion a few years ago but now is a Pemier League rider at best

Yes we know PK is out of Lakeside now, but even if PK was shouting come and get me, you would have to also release Ricky or Jacob and bring in a 4.5 rider at best ....... PK four rides 6-7 points and a 4+ rider 4-5 points = 12 points

Ricky and Ty have been doing that at home, maybe not away but at this stage of the season ...... and after anther home defeat I cant see it being worth releasing Ricky who has done his job so far.

One problem we do have and it seems to be most seasons, Wolves are usually well ahead in fixtures ridden. At present we have done 23 already while the teams above are around 20. It's those teams that make changes when they have games in hand and finish stronger than they started ....... but having ridden more matches and gained less points it makes it virtually impossible to play catch up.

Release Ty and Ricky for PK and a 4 pointer like Oliver Berntzon :t:

Ricky has been largely inconsistent and if there is a chance of making those changes happen then he has to be the other to go.

Jacob and Piotr are exempt are far as i`m concerned.

They can ride Mondays when SKY ask and pay money, so I'm sure they could do it 8-10 times a season as operating on one night would mean they would be away 8-10 times also so roughly one match each fortnight at home

The other weeks will be taken care of with British League meetings where the big names wont appear and run on other nights

Could you imagine the crowds on a Monday night if it was Wolves v Coventry featuring Woffinden / Lindgren v Hancock / Jonsson or Eastbourne v Poole with Nicki / Bjarne v Darcy / Holder ...... it's got to happen or it will be Premier League standard in both leagues

Either Sky have to treble/quadruple the amount they pay for the coverage,or you have to find 2 maybe 3 large sponsorship deals to support the league or your looking at charging in excess of £20 per meeting to get in.Realistically you need all 3 to make this super league work.

PK back at Wolves according to the Express and Star back page.....

And Lasse Bjerre

Yep.

PK and Lasse Bjerre in, Ricky Wells and Ty Proctor out.

Feel a tad for Ricky, he has for the most part done his job, but a change had to be made.

Won't Bjerre be missing every time clash with Peterborough as well as Jacobs (like Next Friday against Cov)

Think a lot will depend on how PK gets his form back as struggled of late. However at least you know he will give 100%

Ty had to go, bloody shame, the injury did for him just as it looked like he was taking a step up. To be honest I feel more sympathy for him than Wells, who's reached his level in my opinion with no real signs of being anything other than a 2nd string.

Bringing PK back was the obvious and easy thing to do. I guess the added bonus will be, assuming he wants to continue, of being able to form an opinion when it doesn't mean anything as to whether he's worth a team place for next season or whether the old boy's average really is winding down. What we don't need is him banging in 13+ points a match or the 6.71 might not look so juicy :D

As for Lasse, a case of wait and see I guess. If he has caught his brother's disease and become play off Lasse it won't bother us this season at any rate ;):P:D

Quote from CVS '....if we'd have had a No 1 riding to his average we'd have been fine......'

Name? : Christopher Van Straaten

Specialist subject? : The bleeding obvious.

Brilliant changes made by CVS. Karlsson is just a LEGEND! That's all I am saying there and Lasse Bjerre is an improvement on Proctor you only have to look at both riders PL scores this year.

Oh and now this makes the Lakeside promotion clueless. Nilsson in PK out lol Christmas has come early for Wolves fans.

I fancy Wolves to make the Play Offs now. Woffy, Pawlicki and PK as a top 3 around Monmore WOW just WOW!

Edit: Also Jacob back as a second string is another major plus for Wolverhampton

Your last point is the important one.

If Wolves make the play offs a few people, myself included, are going to have to get on hands and knees and beg forgiveness :P

4 home (2 of which are Leicester) 5 away left, maximum 58 points. Still can't see it myself.

Mixed thoughts on PK coming back. Yes he's a legend at the club and you know he'll give all he has, but personally I'd rather remember him as the rider he was than see the pale imitation who was at Lakeside. On the plus, he won't be under pressure to bang in maximums week in week out, as long as Piotr and Tai do their jobs

Good luck to PK - now that he's no longer a Hammer I'm glad he's back at Wolves!

I do feel for Ricky Wells though.

Well fair play to the management for making the changes that we could all see were necessary.

They have certainly learned a lesson and maybe just maybe we can go on a run and start winning matches instead of struggling.

Changes have been made sooner rather than later so i have to give credit to our promotion for finally being as ruthless as other successful promotions.

Jury is out on baby Bjerre but having PK back was a non brainer.

I do feel sorry for Ty and Ricky, but in truth they have largely not been up to the task and the pressure of having to carry a number one for most of the season means they pay the ultimate price.

Winning at Coventry not out of the question (no garrity and danish final same night ) !! You just never know !!

As someone else has pointed out, the bonus effect of this change is to move Thorsell down to second string where he should be more consistent. But the main reason behind the move is box office. Even with Wolves unlikely to make the play-offs, PK returning should be good for a couple of hundred extra punters through the gates at Monmore.

Peterborough at Scunthorpe. Jacobs? Bjerre?
