Guest Posted June 7, 2017 There was a site packed with information that was taken down rather than just dying. I refer to the The Speedway History Forum. At the time of its demise there was still member action - then without warning it was gone! One of the great mysteries I suppose as to what happens on the Internet? I think this site may have been established by the speedway artist Jim Blanchard?
Andrew 125 Posted June 7, 2017 I tried running the web addresses though the Internet Archive Wayback Machine https://archive.org/web/ And it found the following pages https://web.archive.org/web/20060425011734/http://freespace.virgin.net:80/pete.craven/index.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20080106105858/http://www.ove-fundin.com/ https://web.archive.org/web/20020206211001/http://freespace.virgin.net:80/barry.briggo/index.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20070203044814/http://speedwayhistory.proboards67.com:80/ https://web.archive.org/web/20070205133504/http://www.legtrailerart.com:80/ The pages take a little while to load and may not have all the images, but the text seems to be all there. Guest Posted June 7, 2017 (edited) http://freespace.virgin.net/pete.craven/index.htm Peter Craven (gallery updated recently with new photo's) http://freespace.virgin.net/barry.briggo/index.htm Barry Briggs http://freespace.virgin.net/mirac.moore/index.htm Ronnie Moore http://www.ove-fundin.com Ove Fundin http://www.art-in-motion.co.uk New Cross Speedway (Unfinished more photo's and memorabilia from Mike Kemp to be included) Interesting to see your one though. Over the years - this was originally posted some 13 years ago - these sites appear to have "...vanished into the ether..." Out of interest, can any other BSF member manage to enter them? They look extremely interesting and I would like to view what is on offer. My profound thanks for any advice. That's excellent work on your part Andrew, and I loaded up by following your advice and had a fairly good response. And I see the sites are the work of renowned speedway artist Jim Blanchard. Now, I wonder if there is some way the other 'lost' sites listed on here might be traced via the same source? The snag is that in most cases there is only a forum name but not a full forum website address for them. Edited June 7, 2017 by Guest
Guest Posted June 8, 2017 (edited) Here is a list of speedway history sites as shown on SpeedwayPlus website. I have no idea how many of these are still functioning. Most are still functional - the exceptions are: Vintage Speedway Forum http://speedwayhistory.proboards67.com/index.cgi Dick Barrie http://www.dickbarrie.co.uk/ Magro's Historic World http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~stvmagro/pages/mainindex.htm However, in regard to the Dick Barrie Link while it does materialise it does not carry any speedway information but appears to now be an outlet for mainly women's footwear. waiheke1 4,295 Posted June 8, 2017 Wonder if they ever considered sponsoring a rider, and if they did whether the rider's name would appear in the programme or "dickbarrie womans wear"?
Guest Posted June 22, 2017 (edited) I could be completely mistaken here - I usually am (old age and all that!) - but I seem to have memories from about 10-12 years ago of a history site run by a person in Italy! Again, I could be wrong, but I am certain the websites title included the word MARS in it (...and don't 'bar' me for that comment!). I have tried a GOOGLE search but nothing came forward. I have found the site I was looking for. I knew it had a chocolate bar connection and thought it was MARS. Instead it turns out to be MILKY SPEEDWAY, But it is still up and running - here's the Link to it: http://themilkyspeedway.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/ Edited June 22, 2017 by Guest
