  1. This “use it or lose it” saying that I keep reading on here and other speedway circles is a very dangerous game. How about making it more appealing for fans to attend instead of threatening closure if you don’t?

  2. Crowds @ Somerset are not brilliant, in my opinion it lacks "younger local" support as the regular supporters come from a large catchment area i.e former Exeter & Bristol fans. I think the promotion lost a small fortune in 2018 & are still recovering. However we have one of the best U.K. racetracks with easy parking, decent food & good toilets. Spectator viewing could be better! The answer is use it or lose it......

  3. I bet BWD is enjoying reading all these negative comments about him. I remember last season at this point when the knives were out for Anders, I posted a thing about watching new guys grow into the team. Sometimes it goes the other way as it did for Atkins. What you will get from Bradley is 100% , we all know Rory is the number one anyway. Number 1 or 5 not much difference, .06 between him and Rory, if it was the other way round Brad would probably start at 5 anyway. I said before if Berge hadn’t screwed us over we would have probably gone further in the league, we still won the fours. Get behind our team COYR.

  5. It was a good night, well attended, and as Dalbers said, congrats to the fans for the most disciplined fans meeting we have ever had. Could agree with that as I think we were all in anticipation of what was being revealed, and everything was very positive. Rob's not the young lad he was, and is now a accomplished successful businessman who wants to bring success to Newcastle Speedway, and mix it with his other business interests to brighten things up and make meetings more entertaining for both adults and kids. Talk of fairground rides both in the carpark and inside the entry area to be open when the gates open at 5.30, but that could be revised at some stage. Two riders announced Max and Matty so everyone happy with them, two more signings I think at the end of this week, another two the week after and the final one at the Xmas Party at the PTE on Fri 20th Dec, prices with a buffet £8 with other reduced prices. First meeting on the Sun 29th March will be the 90th anniversary meeting held over, and prices will be £10 per adult and concessions £5. The field will be made up of the current team, plus a lot of previous Diamonds. Rob has talked to Bjarne not necessarily to ride, but to be there to meet everyone again. He is also going to talk to Nikki and KB. George pointed out that with the meeting being early season, unlike last year, and with the early Ben Fund Meeting, most riders will be looking for rides before the season starts proper. Good point. Season ticket prices currently under discussion and they will cover the 16 league meetings plus the KO Cup match, but not the 90th Anniversary meeting as that's already been discounted down to £10 per adult. Meetings in future with be ramped up with attractions and maybe stunt riders on the centre green, special events for the kids mainly aiming for 7-9 years old. Music to be really ramped up so that there is no standing doing nothing and no music for atmosphere. Something will be going on all the time so there is no dull moment. The meeting will be going on as usual, but the extra entertainment will not delay the proceedings and the first meeting will always will be followed by a second half for junior racing. The Gems will be continued and new riders will be encouraged in order to build up a stock of young riders. Rob said 6 riders have been signed and talks are still on going with the 7th rider. All riders were capable of increasing their averages and all want to ride for Newcastle. The ownership of the speedway in now in the hands of Rob jnr, being the single shareholder, George and Dave Tattum as Co Promoters, Neil Machen as adviser and Dalbers as the club Secretary. Special thanks went to Vaughan Jones who has worked alongside everyone during the transition period, and guided the promotion to a successful conclusion from the previous promotion. Vaughan and Tim Scott had been in a similar position in about 2002 advising George, Darryl and myself. At the end of the night I would say there was a full room of fans leaving the room pleased at what they had heard, and looking forward to more info about the team and the meeting arrangements. See you all at the Xmas party PTE on Fri 20th Dec for more surprises and news.

  6. And you worked that out all by yourself did you? It is good that we have someone of your intellectual level to inform us of this.

  7. The team we are putting together wouldn't look out of place in the premier league, would certainly give some of the team's a run for there money

  8. I find ranting Roy entertaining , although I only get to listen to him when Glasgow are in town, he tries his best and is better than quite a few centre green announcers

  12. Really good signing he's one of a handful of Aussies that can really elevate himself a couple of levels see no reason he can't do a Rasmus and average more in the PL than he has in the CL , he's gonna do fine

  13. Nope. His money is on Hans Andersen.

  15. Rob G has put this on Facebook: "I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who turned out for the talk in last night, it was a great night and a pleasure to see you all again. We intend on announcing 2 more riders early next week and then hopefully we will be in a position to announce the final 3 at the Christmas party at the PTE Club on the 20th of December. Get your tickets bought folks and i look forward to seeing you all there".

  16. Got to be honest there is a bit of a buzz about the place not seen for a good few years. Already signed the 2 riders from last year the supporters would have wanted, ideas to give extended entertainment throughout the meeting and a couple of possible shock signings incoming. Took over last week, but sure is making inroads immediately and imho has probably been sounding out the signings even before he took the plunge. Brought together an experienced team to help out also.

  17. Six agreed, just awaiting the appropriate signatures on contracts etc., rather than just drip feeding riders. 90% there with the 7th. That's what I heard anyway. Rob also said he reckoned we'll have the strongest reserve pairing in the league, so no Danny Phillips!!!

  20. Yes I do. I think Rob wants to keep the excitement going, climaxing with some really good news at the Xmas Party. Lots of interest and we need to stick with it and Rob won't disappoint. He hasn't come in to lose money so he will give it a good go. Remember that in other business's you can increase the price, but in speedway the entrance price is really controlled by what others charge so more effort has to be made to increase the crowd and what they spend.

  24. Its nothing personal against the lower leagues and I'm not dissing the racing or anything like that. I would genuinely only follow the CL if Swindon went down a league and would lose interest in the top league.

  27. You are going by averages rather than ability, my take on building a side is having a side that can get you 48/50 points everyweek if not then 42 pts and collect the bonus point. The nice thing about this side is you have,Adam? Ellis,Anders, Jordan who can all improve and can still play a part in our future as well.

  28. Just a thought Steve I've been going up the Wolves since the late 90s not so much since we've been back except for the last couple of years when I've been a regular again but with us now finished Wolves will unbelievably be my team again. Btw I've no problem with that , in my eyes there's been no rivalry for 20 years. My thought is tho I wonder how much the Wolves fan base will increase next year with Heathens fans still after there speedway fix. There's a fair few who turn up anyway but maybe there will be more next year. It took me about 10 years before I starting wanting Wolves to win instead of the opposition .lol . It was when Billy had a couple of seasons with you and you told me to come over to the dark side lol

  29. That maybe the case at the start of the season but it usually doesn't end that way!! Can't see that team finishing the season but we are going to be hard to beat at home and we have managed to keep 5 of the title winning team so happy days. Plus we get to see a local lad develop so all in all I'm happy and will look forward to buying a season ticket for the first in 10 years.

  37. Unlike with British Speedway the switch to Eurosport for the GPs does not take effect until 2022. The next two seasons will still be on BT Sport.

  38. I agree, Sidney. Wells might be a better CL rider at the moment, but he is what he is. He would have just been a filler rider whose average fitted, whereas Jordan is someone who looks like he will improve and could become a part of the club in the future. At the start of the year Wells may have actually been a better scorer, so I can see why people might choose him over Stewart, but he isn't someone I would have a particular interest in seeing ride for Swindon, whereas, from what I have read, this looks a more interesting signing.

  40. Ha ha, I knew you were, showing your terrific sense of humour huh! Really glad to hear about the Diamonds improving fortunes in recent weeks, a great club with a, rightly, proud history. In fairness Scunny is a decent track but like you I don't rate it best necessarily.

  41. I did go to some matches, and it was very entertaining, but viewing in an almost empty stadium is a spooky experience. Going back many years I hardly ever missed a "Starlets" meeting, those were the days! Unfortunately the cost of attending any Lynn meeting for me now is quite expensive having to do a 100 mile round trip, and then programmes for myself and the wife etc leaves me little change out of £60 taking fuel in to account. I'm a pensioner now (it comes to us all) so I pick and choose Lynn meetings, but getting back to my original comment, I do find NL racing very entertaining if somewhat unpredictable!

  42. The more full 1-7's that are announced, the better the Brummies septet looks at the moment. Leicester also look strong, expecting Glasgow & Poole to also produce competitive teams.
