  1. Blackbird Road for me, and one I never visited but wish I had in its halcyon days, New Cross
  2. After he hangs up his racesuits, he'll be an ex-rider, not a current rider!
  3. He had three and got 33.3% wrong - there was a tapes exclusion early on! He also said Hans Nielsen was a 5 time World Champion!
  4. Which Pawlicki brother does Ermolenko think is riding in this?
  5. If the racing is processional, as seems the norm these days, it won't matter if the track is not 4 handlebar-widths wide
  6. Reminder! Eastbourne v Poole 7.00pm start tonight
  7. 1961-70 - because I could see Craven (all too briefly), Fundin, Knutsson, Briggs, N. Boocock, Mountford, McKinlay, Plechanov, Wembley world finals, Wimbledon FIM Internationales, local riders, 13 heats + 2nd halves, riders in bar after meetings, 6d programmes, a good mix of team and individual events, virtually no guests, . . . . . Age 14-23
  8. The daft part is, you could scrape through with 22111=7, come 2nd heat 21, win heat 23, and be crowned GP winner Yes, I know all the riders know that beforehand, but . . . . . Ward at Prague, Batch at Parken! Another lack of credibility - credibility is referred to in another thread about the future of speedway
  9. Put me off speedway for a while, having to put up with that rider at Brandon Attractions like Fundin, Knutsson, Briggs (not a fan), Craven, Penhall, Nielsen, Moran x 2, Mauger, Lee, Collins (Peter), Knudsen, Hamill, Sayfutdinov, Ward, Holder - yes! But not Olsen!
  10. Anyone else think Bachelor should have been the GP winner? Sure, NKI won the scratch race final after the main meeting! But shouldn't the event be 20 heats, 5 rides against all the others, top scorer wins? I think it's a nonsense - and yes, I was made up when Bomber won the final in Cardiff!!! But it doesn't change my feelings
  11. For those of us whose first language is English, . . . . Threw out? I guess that's predictive text for throughout?
  12. According to the SGP website Zagar was not awarded a point and he finished on 9 pts Both he and Nicki are shown as DNF for their semi-final It was a proper speedway track - in a speedway stadium If you want to see it in stadia like you mention, you'll get a temporary trick track like we've seen over the years in SGPs - even Cardiff, yes I'd much rather watch my speedway on a track like the one last night!
  13. I go back to 1964, my first meeting saw Ron Mountford equal the old track record of 65.8 at Brandon What has been lost, as much as anything, is the local identity of the riders and their relationship with the fans At Coventry we had teams almost entirely made up of locally-based riders, who joined the ans in the bar afterwards, not dashing off across Europe to one of their other teams And we more or less knew they'd be there all season, and back next term too They were nearly all semi-pro, which meant riders' costs, and hence admission charges, were kept to a minimum - but it didn't detract from the honest efforts of all riders And of course, we got a full 13 heat match, plus a second half individual event (and usually a third half with bike testing and novice riders) for our reasonable admission charge And we knew there'd be a meeting every Saturday night, save for the first Saturday in the month (stock cars)
  14. Spot on, TWK - and I felt that way long before the GPs came along
  15. Between 76 and 83 it was usually the highlight of the Brandon season for me - as it meant there was no Ole Olsen on view!
  16. Obviously no one told Rospiggarna - they managed to ride as a TEAM this week!
  17. 7 riders missing from one race? Perhaps we should go back to the good old days, with just four riders in a race!!!
  18. What responsibilities? For the weather? For the curfew restrictions? For the timing of the decision by the FIM jury to postpone?
  19. I think you'll find Steve Park was saying "pull the meeting" (ie call it off) rather than "pull the meeting forward" (ie start it earlier)
  20. I wrote: "Armadale isn't a fully enclosed stadium like Ricoh There is no main road comparable with the A444, a main link between Coventry north and the M6, closer to the homes than the stadium There is no railway line directly alongside the homes and between the homes and stadium" It's all about Armadale - not fully enclosed, no main road, no railway line Seems straight forward enough, but clearly, reading your continued failure to grasp any point made to you, it wasn't straight forward enough for you I won't call you names, although one or two spring to mind!
