GB Squad Announced
Leg Trailer replied to Derwent's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Anyone got anymore gossip on the Loram story? He can't be too chuffed having his name put down against his wishes surely? LT. -
Lukas Dryml Injury
Leg Trailer replied to Chris Brown's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You know, the not-so-funny thing is: before the meeting I commented that the medical care might not be up to scratch in a country such as Slovenia so sadly this report comes as no suprise to me. I hope the FIM and GP organisers learn from the very lucky outcome this time and remedy it so that it will not occur again. And if that means no GP in Slovenia then so be it. Next thing you know they'll be running GP's in Sudan just to reach out to more poorer nations. Shillings before safety - speedways biggest problem since the sport began. LT. -
Calm down old chap. Me thinks you're taking things to heart a little too much. Fair enough, I misunderstood your post regarding the sarcasm part but had just read another of your posts on a different topic where you disagreed with me so I'm sure you can see why I made that mistake. As for the next comment about the spelling of Tony's name, that indeed was a serious post. Very noble of you to get "disgusted" about the spastic comment. If you stopped to actually think about the choice of words there you'd know that 'spastic' is no longer a word used to describe a disabled person and the Spastic Society was renamed about 15 years ago FYI. I was poking fun at the word spastic more than anything else. Just because someone is disabled does not mean you should ignore them entirely as that is rather Stalinist to say the least. Would you prefer if I had said "a burning dancer"? I would imagine that had I said that NOBODY would've batted an eyelid. I rest my case. If you took the comment to mean that I somehow thought Nikki is disabled then that my friend is laughable and just proves the point that some people actually LIKE to be shocked! I think if you get so easily offended about something like that then you perhaps need to have a word with your GP about getting prescribed some Beta Blockers. Sad thing about these silly little slagging matches on internet bulletin boards is that 99% of people who argue with one another in a seemingly serious manner would probably get on like a house on fire should they actually meet over a beer in real life. Think about it. How do you know that a close member of my family is not DISABLED? You do not know me. Engage brain before fingers next time please. Excuse me but I do not recall saying I hoped to see a rider get hurt. I resent that accusation. I simply pointed out that Nikki will end up having a serious accident with his riding style and as a result of the style he has you would certainly have great trouble proving he never asked for it! And yes indeed, my sympathy would be blighted by the knowledge that it was obvious to all concerned that his riding style was leading to an accident from day one. That's the nature of his style, he'll take the rough with the smooth. Seems to me he knows the way his style is veiwed by riders and fans and is happy to take the risks. Fair play to him...... my main concern is that he doesn't take another rider with him that's all. Touche? LT.

I was actually refering to Tony Rickardson. Guess I spelt his name wrong huh? LT.
-
He did indeed, way back in the pre-PC luvvie days. It's contained in his book of poems released in the 1960's. LT.
-
That particular quote came from the late John Lennon. Not an original by myself and if I caused any offense in repeating it then I apologise. LT.
-
Well that might sound harsh and probably isn't true (I ain't that heartless)but by and large I think when Nikki goes most people will say "well..... he did ride like a burning spastic at times didn't he". You can be a gutsy rider (Richardson) without putting the lives of the others at risk everytime you hit the track, still his brother could be alot like Nikki too and what was it Mick Poole once said on TV? Ah, that was it..... "he's (Ronni) gonna go in a big way soon and when he does he's gonna deserve it too!" I know how the other riders view Nikki and that's good enough for me. LT.

What Are Sky TV Playing At?
Leg Trailer replied to Robbie B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
How very true. I remember posting off letter after letter during the late eighties and early nineties asking the TV channels to show more speedway and 9 times outa 10 got a PFO letter back. Anyone who remembers the dark days of ZERO speedway coverage will always think twice before shooting their mouth off that a match is not shown on the proper channel of their liking. If SKY think people don't appreciate them covering the sport then they'll soon bugger off and cover something else like ...... erm.... domino's. Sometimes it best just to grin and bare these things rather than risk looking like ungrateful gits with short memories. LT. -
Dunno if your last post was supposed to sarcastic Philip but the point I was making is that Nikki has the style of racing he has and makes no apologies for it. His fans chime up when the commentators crack the funnies about it? Seems a little cheeky to get wound up over that if you ask me. That's the way Nikki races so the last thing you'll get from me is sympathy when he porks it large...... and he will pork it large sooner or later. Exciting to watch though. LT.

Rolling starts in Grand Prix
Leg Trailer replied to Philip Addison's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one Philip. Why is using a cunning ploy such as nudging the tapes deemed to be cheating if it's part of the rules? By definition nobody was cheating when tape touching was legal! Tape touching saw the clever riders use the starts to their advantage and removed the large party of riders who build a career out of making the gate. Kenny Carter used to be a master at rolling starts, he would move back and forth, hoping to get a forward roll just as the tapes went up and this made for more excitment for sure. It was more exciting and bought an edge of unpredictabilty to the sport which silenced the anti-speedway lobby who bark: "first one to the first bend wins". Is that the total sum of your argument against tape touching Philip or is there more? I think my points for it outweigh your points against it as it stands right now. Sorry. LT. -
Rolling starts in Grand Prix
Leg Trailer replied to Philip Addison's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I don't know why they don't just stick Ole Olsen in the refs box and have done with it, that way he could run the show 100% to his liking. On the subject of rolling starts I think there are quite a few riders taking their chances these days and not many refs are in a position to call them back everytime. TV coverage dictates a strict time schedule and I have seen Ole quite often prod a rider who's fallen to get up or be stretchered off! Personally, I would love to see tape touching being allowed back in the sport. If you watch meetings from the early 80's (1982 world final springs to mind) then the excitement is fever pitch at the starts. The riders used to get each other at sixes and sevens and banning it removed a degree of specatacle which I for one miss. Alot of people only used to watch to see the rider go through the tapes just like most people only used to watch 'The Cook Report' to see Roger Cook get smacked in the face! LT. -
Lukas Dryml Injury
Leg Trailer replied to Chris Brown's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well Lucas was knocked out in the accident so I would imagine that the last thing he remembers is getting on that bike before the race. If this is the case then hopefully his comeback ride should not pose too many psychological problems for him. You can't get feared-up over something you have no recollection of but I would imagine the TV footage might send a shiver down his spine. Fingers crossed. LT. -
My first one was Peterborough vs someone in 1989 at the showground when the track was narrow and risky! I think I may have been taken to a mtach before then when I was a toddler but not too sure. LT.

Nikki makes his bed and must lay in it. Comments were spot on and for the record Havvy said "I think Nikki may have been up to his old tricks again"....

Lukas Dryml Injury
Leg Trailer replied to Chris Brown's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Good grief, you lot are like a bunch of moaning ole grannies at times! Why not just let it go and get on with the topic at hand which is Lucas Drymal? Why get bogged down in petty wranglings that basically came about through a misunderstanding and inadequacies of the internet in conveying true thoughts in an accuate light? Let's move on shall we? Slovenian GP Result

I am just waiting for the moment Nikki Pedersen cleans himself or somebody else up. That guy is heading for a big come-off if you ask me. LT. -
Lukas Dryml Injury
Leg Trailer replied to Chris Brown's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I too feared the worst for Lucas and genuinely felt sick. :-( I really was not too interested in the match after that but to hear from Keith Huewen that he'd only chipped a tooth made me laugh out in relief and happiness that he wasn't (as many of us feared) dead. It is not often that you see an horrific accident like that where you "just know" that the guy ain't well. The way his legs were twithcing and the frantic efforts of track staff made me feel sick from the pit of my stomach. The way the TV cameras focused on the pit crews for what seemed like an eternity afterwards made me think that something was going on out there on the track that we should not see. I think he was off in the ambulance quicker than any rider I have seen fall. Anyway, tough boys these speedway riders are so lets all thank whoever our God is that Lucas is now okay after that nasty scare. LT. -
Thanks for the info there Moxey! LT.

Hi folks, On a similar line to the thread started by Grachan I thought it would be interesting to hear names of past riders whom we hear little of these days or riders we would like to hear updates on. I'll start shall I? Gary Tagg Martin Goodwin Jamie Habbin Andy Graham Alan Graham Scott Norman Simon Cross Dave Mullet To name just a couple of guys who I'd love to hear updates on. I guess these guys are now retired but anyone know what they're up to these days? Cheers, LT.

Hi folks, Well thanks for your replies! Tidy sum eh? That sounds nice. My grandfather was Geoff Godwin who won their league with Middlesbrough back in 1946 or 47'. We have quite a few programes from Middlesbrough at that time. I really must have a look up in the attic and get a more detailed list of stuff we have as I am going from memory here! We have quite a few old speedway gazettes and other smaller publications from the 1940's and early 50's. The photo's we have are obviously mainly of my grandfather but there are a few of other riders such as Ivor Brown from Cradley and a fair amount of shots from the grasstrack scene at that time. Geoff broke his neck racing at Glasgow (I think!) sometime during his career but was back in the saddle racing again 3 months later (as one does!). He left the speedway scene whilst he went off to do his bit in WWII as an officer in the reserve royal navy. After the war he was back racing again but retired in the early 1950's as far as I can ascertain from the papers upstairs. He kept an interest in speedway and even helped construct one of the first teams to race at Kings Lynns when they opened. Sadly my grandfather passed away after a short illness in 1982. I hope to grab time to get up in the attic again one afternoon soon and give you the full SP. Thanks for your time, LT.

Hi folks, My first post on this site so forgive me if I have posted this amongst an incorrect forum but 'Years Gone By' seemed the most appropriate! My late grandfather was a pro speedway rider from the 1930's through to the 1950's. He rode for a number of teams throughout his career including Middlesbrough, Cradley, Glasgow and Dagenham. We have an awful lot of speedway memorobilia up in the attic as I'm sure you can imagine! Amongst the hoardes of ancient programes lies an England racing jacket from when my grandfather was in the England team (I believe he was once a reserve). It's in reasonable nick considering it's age (possibly 1930's). I was wondering if any of you guys and gals know if this sort of thing is collectable. As far as I'm aware my family has no plans to sell any of the memorobilia we have but it never hurts to find out interest levels in this sort of thing. If anyone is interested in the stuff we have (once again, we DO NOT intend to sell the artefacts!) drop a line below and I'll fill you in. We have old speedway gazettes, match programes, badges, photos, garage recipts and a few autographs including Johnny Hoskins sig. All the best and thanks for reading, LT.
