Cheers DJ.Did a Wikipedia search and Belle Vue Rangers were active at Hyde Rd between 1933-1955.

For any historians out there,can they tell me what team played rugby in the centre of the stadium from the black and white footage? Never had the opportunity to visit Hyde Rd as I wasn't old enough to drive but heard some great stories from former work colleagues who were regulars(who were Crewe Kings followers) about it being a great day out with the zoo being nearby.

There are/were 4 rugby pitches so space wouldn't be a problem,but whether it'd be a motorsport venue(Mike Hailwood,a motorsport legend was tragically killed very nearby back in 1981),i'm really not sure.🤔I don't know whether it's being looked at or considered for any development(Birmingham RFC merged with Solihull RFC many years ago,and Portway became an alternative rugby venue for the Bees).🤔Have fond memories at 16 years old of cycling through the leafy lanes to go training and then missing the last train home from Earlswood and end up cycling the rest of the way home.😄

I used to play rugby at that very club on the map before the M42 was constructed😉The ground is called Portway.

I was a regular watching Brum at the Wheels Project(Tom Evitts and Les Powell were definately promoting👍) and I can only remember Joe Owens'(how good was he?) tragic accident for Ellesmere Port Gunners in 1985.I don't remember much else tbh with my fading memory.Most folk who went then hated the place,but I quite liked it as it was in the shadows of St Andrews football ground.🤭

TDM,this forum is alive with folk who no longer attend speedway for one reason or another,so I think having a pop at SB(who's posts are fair,balanced and a realist imo) is a little unfair.As most on here know SB was an avid follower of Wolves,and at least takes an interest in the only surviving Midlands speedway outfit😉
