That has nothing to do with that at all. The RFL warned the Welsh Tourist Board (who paid £500k a year to the RFL to have the event in Cardiff) before this year's event that if the hoteliers ripped people off again then they would not go back there. Similarly, they were disappointed that the Millenium Stadium were happy to cream off the profits but do absolutely nothing in terms of promoting the event. Straight after this year's event they made it known in the press they were dissatisfied and inviting other cities to bid to host the event. Edinburgh have put a very good package on the table and the RFL have accepted it. In a nutshell, the RFL were prepared to make tough decisions and drop a place that they thought wasn't providing value for them or the fans. Good leadership I'd say.

Time to bring in the dream team of Ian Thomas & Carl Stonehewer to manage GB. IT can cheat us to victory and if not then at least Stoney will make sure everyone has fun trying !

"british Fans A Disgrace"
Derwent replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'd be grateful if you could point out where exactly in that article he says the British fans are a disgrace ? Despite the inflammatory title of this thread, the fact is that he simply didn't say that. Yet dozens of people on this thread seem quite happy to ignore that fact as it doesn't fit with their agenda. -

I don't think such a rule has ever existed. -

"british Fans A Disgrace"
Derwent replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I've read that article twice now and am still looking for where Pedersen calls the British fans a disgrace, as this thread title implies. He said the booing was disgraceful. He said he was disappointed with the British fans. But nowhere does he day the British fans are a disgrace. Somebody twisting his words for their own agenda perhaps ? -
Who's Going To Cardiff
Derwent replied to lady s's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Just a word of warning about hotel prices in Cardiff for anyone staying over. I was there last weekend for the Rugby League Millenium Magic weekend and we booked our hotel rooms 8 months in advance. We turned up on Saturday morning to be told that the room rate had increased by 70% on the price on our booking confirmation, i.e. a £60 room became £102 ! When we questioned this we were simply told "if you want the rooms then that's the rate". It appears from talking to many other people over the weekend that a lot of the city centre hotels had adopted this approach and it's something they've been doing for the last few "big" events at the Millenium Stadium. So just be aware that the room rate you've been quoted on your booking isn't necessarily the room rate you'll be charged. -
Odds for outright winners on Betfair at the moment are :- Denmark 2/1 Australia 2/1 Poland 9/4 GB 12/1 Sweden 20/1 USA 200/1 Russia 200/1 Finland 400/1 Best bet is Poland to win Event 1, they're 3/1 to win that which is bigger than their price to win the trophy !

No, the original Chris Harris

Absolutely awesome. Not just that he won, but the way he won. All through the meeting he battled for every yard of every race, he just doesn't know when he's beat. The guy is a hero in every sense. Well done Bomber, Great Britain is proud of you.

Typical. I back Adams in the previous 2 GP's and he does nothing. Then the week I don't put money on him he wins. Grrrr.....

Prague Hotels, Reccomendations?

What speedway needs to do is something like this..... http://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague/ne...YL_Cardiff.html You have the local council and the national tourist board offering £500k for a sport to come and stage a weekend event. Why couldn't speedway do something similar, would an Elite League Weekend be popular ?

Tonights Race Card, Riding Order
Derwent replied to i hate skybet's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The above riding orders are now confirmed on the SWC website. Team GB have Gate 1 in the last 2 heats which could well be vital. -
Why does he always refer to himself as "we" ? Watch his interviews and he never says "I'm aiming for the semi's" etc it's always "we're aiming for the semi's" ! Very annoying !
-
Maybe so, but I don't agree that he was out of his depth based on riding ability. I suspect that maybe his equipment isn't up to GP standards when you consider that a lot of the riders on show are riding works machinery, which is bound to have an affect. It'd be interesting to see how he fared with, say, Scott or Lee's equipment at his disposal.

Hancock is only 5/1 on Skybet. I think the best bet is Gollob each way at 20/1, he seems to have a bit of the hunger back this year and that's a good price for a podium finish.

Lee Richardson
Derwent replied to Vincent Vega's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The problem with Lee Richardson is himself, nothing else. Too ready to blame anything and everything as an excuse for his own poor performances. For example, every GP he says "the track is different from practice" - well it's the same for everyone and the rest seem to find a set-up ok. As long as he carries on making excuses then he'll never get it sorted. There's no doubt he's got ability but what he hasn't got is Positive Mental Attitude which is often as important in sport particularly at the highest level. It is his lack of mental strength that means that he will never ever compete consistently at GP level I'm afraid. -
