BSI are not sponsors. They are the organisers having bought the promoting rights from the FIM. Therefor they need to make the series marketable so it produces a profit. Most regular speedway fans probably wouldn't be put off from watching if there was no GB representative but casual viewers probably would be. Look at the popularity of other sports and see how it changes when there are competitive British participants and how popularity wains when there isn't.
All this arguing could be avoided if speedway GPs were done like any other motorsport. Qualifying rounds and seeded riders could be avoided if the grid places in the series were just sold off to either individual riders or teams. 15 places available for the season plus one wild card at each round for the local organisers to put in. A grid place in the GP series should be worth something in the region of 55k for the season. It is then up to the riders/teams to make money from it from sponsorship and prize money.
It's about time British riders were banned from competing in all levels of speedway. They are a constant disappointment to fans. Take Ben Barker. He's been talked of for years as a Grand Prix rider but hasn't made it yet. How many people has he let down? Disgusting!!! How many young Danes have been talked about as the next Nikki Pedersen but haven't made an impact? Ban them as well.
You could go to Sidderburen grasstrack Saturday in NL. It's the Lester Goodwin memorial meeting and has a very good line up in the sidecar class with solo support classes.
He could have been feeling a bit of pressure in the run up to the start of the meeting. I understand the GP series is quite important to the riders involved in it.
Precisely. Makes you wonder about how our immigration laws work within the EU though. Surely if he has raced in other EU countries he should be entitled to come and race here?
Can't he just hide in the back of lorry? Would also save him hotel bills as well as the local council would most likely provide him with a free house once he's here.
The Brit is showing a bit of promise on the grass over here. Woodward has done 2 meetings at Collier Street and I think his results are a second and a win.
A similar case happened about 4 years ago at Croft race circuit about noise and disruption to peace. The complainers won. The chief complainer was the former wife of one of the circuits owners. Basically after that case anyone can move anywhere and complain about existing activities, factories etc.
