British Speedway Promoters Meeting
John Leslie replied to dantodan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I think the bubble has already burst. They've already gone (in a kind of KKS way) from being a successful businessman with their own highly successful (yet amazingly invisible) P.R. and marketing company, to a teenager working as a webmaster in some non-sports related business. Maybe we were all once young and arrogant and thought we knew it all. One day he/she will grow up and realise that despite his/her love of webmastery, the answer to speedway's problems isn't every club spending a fortune on websites and tweeting. Living within our means, cutting back on the fortunes wasted on airfares and training up sub-standard foreigners, investing in British youngsters, and building a better product, is a start on what will be a long ongoing task. -
So it's Sky again then...

And that's what currently happens....glad you've realised your suggestion of paying someone a salary that the sport can't afford was a bit daft -

Don't get touchy and childish. If you post something daft on a public forum, someone is always going to point out that you've posted something daft. -

No. I wasn't suggesting you'd made the daft comment about a full time salaried employee to update websites and social media. I'm aware of the work you've put into speedway, and like most folk, certainly not for a wage that isn't there. It was someone else talking nonsense -

Sorry, but anyone suggesting a Speedway club should be paying £300 a week for someone to update a website and use social media is either nutty as a fruitcake or on a huge wind-up. Anyone seen KKS lately? -

All track photographers have to sign a licence with Go-Sp££d Int£rnational, which gives Terry the Tan the rights to all images. There's bound to be a photographer on here that can give you more details. -

Synikel - A Walter Mitty Marketing guru pretending he's something he/she's not??? Surely not! Are we heading for a "he/she is KKS" revelation? -

It's the exact same link as that between anyone who has ever rowed a boat on the local lake and anyone who has competed for sport in Ben thingy's olympic standard yacht. So what in essence you are saying is that your post about "2 million people having partaken in a sailing activity" was totally spurious. I'm glad you agree. That's the point I was making. Probably very few. But erm....How many of Elephantman's 2 million people who have taken part in a boating activity have sailed an olympic class yacht? I was merely pointing out that claiming millions of people are interested in Olympic yachting because they've been for a sail in a boat, is the same as claiming tens of millions are interested in Speedway because they've had a ride on a bike. -

A tiny percentage compared to the number of people who have ridden a motorbike. -

Swindon don't give partial refunds. Even though you break forum rules by pratting about with gigantic fonts, underlines and unnecessary colour changes, you still don't seem able to read properly. -

If you have prior notice that you're going to miss matches then don't buy a season ticket - it's quite simple! Just the same as if you've a prior knowledge that you might only eat 5 tomatoes in a week, don't buy the discounted 6 pack and whinge when you have one left over. You can't buy a discounted season ticket for 18 meetings, turn up for 5, and then claim your money back for the other 13. That defeats the whole object of discounted bulk buying. -

Not looking like the bloke on the season ticket could be a bit of a clue. Yeah, cos if you buy a packet of 6 tomatoes and don't eat one, you can always take rotting fruit back to Tesco afterwards and say "I bought this but didn't need it, give me some money back" -

At least this thread has woken up the BSPA. http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.23315 Alex Harkess slams the BBC for snubbing Tai. The BSPA are going to ask the BBC for an explanation as to why he was overlooked. Good for them, the BBC is accountable to all licence payers, not just silly toffs sports. We deserve an explanation. Might be something for our all-party Speedway parliamentary committee to debate too. -

Amazes me too. "Personality" simply means a known or famous person. e.g. a television personality. I guess if the competition were being started now, rather than the 1950s, it would be called "Sports Celebrity of the Year". It's a competition to find the sportsperson/personality/celebrity who has had the most outstanding year. It's not called "Sports Personality you would most like to spend an evening down the pub with of the year" -

Absolutely! Yachting has to be the most stupid nomination of all. For 3 years and 11 months out of every 4 years no one takes a blind bit of notice of sailing. Then the Olympics come round, and one morning a commentator tells us that Phillippa Farquharson-Smyth and her crew have set off on their Olympic yachting race,,,,three days later, the commentator returns to tell us that Pippa has won a gold medal.....no one has watched anything, no one cares really, but we celebrate because the BBC tell us this is great and we must celebrate and wave the Union Jack. Anyway, quite a few Tai comments on the BBC website now http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-personality/25017298 Very easy to register and leave a comment...or just thumbs up the existing comments I see Tai himself has commented on twitter saying "ah well, at least I got an invite" -

Nope. It was always an outside chance with the Beebs closed shop of toff sports like yacht sailing....But the only way the Beeb will get the message that we're not happy is if we tell them......write them an email and complain. If you have lost respect for the Beeb and don't agree with their choices, write and tell them. Write to the Beeb and tell them. -

Oh yes...hitting a fluffy ball over a net is far more demanding than trying to hang on to a 500cc bike with no brakes with a broken collarbone. "several major open events" ....The world famous Miami Sony open? Not sure that's several though. -

Let's disqualify Andy Murray then, since he only won one Grand Slam. (And unlike Tai Woffinden, Murray isn't even World No.1) -

And you're entitled to your opinion... Doesn't make you right though. And it would seem that the majority of the sports-watching public of 1964 didn't agree with you if more voted for Briggs than Rand. p.s. Keep tweeting #SPOTY to let the BBC know that the Speedway-going licence-payer wants to see Tai recognised https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime -

I agree. There's a real story here with his father, the bike ride to Cardiff, coming from nowhere to win the title, riding through painful injuries. etc etc The BBC #SPOTY do seem to be getting some tweets about him. Need more though https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime -

Erm...No. Briggs was the deserved winner. I'm sure if you have a dig around you'll find the details of when the BBC as good as admitted it was fiddled. There was also the year when Bob Nudd, the angler, won. Again it was fiddled, and the rules changed for the following year.
