Isn't the official result the copy of the actual programme that the referee signs across the middle of the racecard? Not a spreadsheet that someone at the office mistyped a name in?

Speedway On Eurosport
John Leslie replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The Welsh programme showing highlights is here http://www.s4c.co.uk/clic/e_level2.shtml?series_id=512060355 If S4C have got rights to the highlights is there any chance Channel 4 might revisit the idea of a highlights show like they used to do? So far I've learnt that the Welsh language has no word for bike, Speedway, clutch, throttle, 70-miles-per-hour, suspension, brakes, sprocket, front, carburettor, air-filter and tyre. -
Went to Buxton last year when they raced against the young American Dream Team and it was a good meeting with some good young talent (on both sides). I think the Americans might be riding at Buxton today....but there is zero information anywhere. Nothing on Buxton website, nothing on here, can't find the line ups anywhere. Would have gone if I'd known the meeting was on and who was riding. Shame

Ellesmere Port Stadium Reopened This Month!
John Leslie replied to 25yearfan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Quite right. The houses and the motorway were there the last time Speedway ran at Ellesmere Port. Also the bikes are quieter these days, and sound barrier technology has improved so maybe there is some hope for a bit of cautious optimism? If Ellesmere Port council wanted some information, maybe they would look at their nearest track Belle Vue where houses are practically all along the back straight. -
Is Speedway A Family Sport
John Leslie replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
How would an earlier time help more families turn up? It's OK having an early start on a Sunday, (but most Sunday meetings are afternoon anyway), but a midweek track can't start at 5.00pm as most people are in work until 5pm. 7.30pm is a sensible start time. (in fact football tends to start midweek kick-offs at 7.45pm or 8.00pm and they still get a crowd) -
Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
John Leslie replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
That's a bit like saying what's the point in having a Speedway track in Birmingham when they've already got one at Wolverhampton. Manchester doesn't have a professional Rugby League team, and I believe Manchester council are very keen to have one. -
Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
John Leslie replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Nonsense. The planning permission is just a formality. Manchester Council have to say to Manchester Council "can we have planning permission to move the Speedway facility 200 yards down the road"....and Manchester Council say to Manchester Council "of course you can"...and Manchester Council say to Manchester Council "thank you". Don't you think in the last 6 years they haven't already looked into this and designed it in a way that the council are happy with? As for the local residents it will be better as the current stadium is, lets say, 'open plan', whereas the new one will be in a slight bowl with the terracing acting as a sound barrier. -
Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
John Leslie replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
The centre green is a rugby pitch which can be used for football or hockey too. Cut and paste from the meeting report which has approved the scheme this morning:- "The Grass Rugby Pitch will be funded from a contribution from Rugby League of £0.12 million and the balance of funding of £0.28 million is already within the Children’s Services capital budget for St Peter’s High Playing fields in 2014/15." -
Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium
John Leslie replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
60 years. So £75K per year, and that's from the whole stadium not just Speedway. Looks like Rugby League, Football, Hockey, pop concerts could also be renting the stadium. Also presume the rent will be staggered over the 60 years, as £75k in 2074 will probably only be the average rent of a 3 bed semi 6,000 is the capacity for Elite League. Temporary stands will take it to 18,000+ capacity if needed for bigger events -
Sky's Additions To It's Speedway Coverage.
John Leslie replied to Stephen7's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Erm...You can still see the GPs. They're on Eurosport. I'm sure it's been mentioned on this forum somewhere What's being discussed here is the Elite League coverage, which has been improved with extra features rather than taking the cheap option of showing some unrelated filler from a GP. -

What do you mean "IF"? I thought you were a confirmed Pork Butcher subscriber. -
Why don't we do away with the 1-7 numbering and list the riders alphabetically with an index?

Does it have an alphabetical index? -
Don't think Simon Stead would be allowed in the Midland Development League at all, either as second string or heat-leader
-
Thing is, we did experience him trying to ride about 10 years ago, then we experienced him trying to promote. (not to mention trying to diet). So why is this man now trying to take candy from babies in a competition which is supposed to be for lower end youth development riders?
-
So, everybody's favourite failed ex-promoter Nicky Mallet provides a few racejackets and buys his way into a junior youth development competition for which he is in no way qualified? Smells a bit bent and mickey mouse.
-
Agree. Bit of a joke having him in a Youth Development GP for young grassroots riders, surely there is a more suitable candidate

How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
John Leslie replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Ah...you're only comparing the riders of 2012 against the combined total of 3 decades not 4. That makes much more sense! -
How Many Heats In A League Meeting ?
John Leslie replied to rusky's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What definition of the 70s are we using here? When Ole Olsen was winning his first world title, Erik Gundersen was just leaving primary school. Barry Briggs keeps popping up but he started his British career in 1952 We seem to be comparing 2012 against the pick of riders from 1952 - 1989 and calling it "the 70s" -
You mean you'd pay £18 for a book with just 100 small pages and half a dozen words on each page? I might buy a book for about a tenner with 50,000 words if it was a subject of interest. I could buy a pack of playing cards that could be used for poker, bridge, cribbage, whist, and hundreds of other games, and I'd expect to pay £2 or £3 for them. I certainly wouldn't pay £18 for a pack of cards and get all orgasmic about it just because they had a picture of speedway printed on them. I hope the poor sod who started this thread looks sensibly at his costings. If he starts producing thousands of packs of these cards expecting to sell them at an uneconomical price of £18 as people are encouraging him to do, then he could end up losing a lot of money.
-
Why are you so aggressive? I've read his idea the same as you have. If his information gives me "absolutely no idea" then it's the same information that you're getting orgasmic about when you also have absolutely no idea either. The guy asked for opinions on whether he'd be able to sell his Top Trumps style Speedway cigarette card game to Speedway fans. Being a Speedway fan, I'm quite qualified to give an opinion. And my opinion is that someone would have to be barking mad to buy 100 bits of printed card for £18. But maybe you'd buy it.
-
Exactly. Not enough people would buy. Maybe there is a small nerd market that would pay £18 for what amounts to nothing more than 100 printed cigarette cards, but it's a very small nerd market. Some speedway folk moan at paying £2 for a 16 page matchday programme. They're not going to pay £18 for 100 cigarette cards. They'd be better uploading the cards to the internet and charging 50p for people to print them off themselves and use.
-
I still don't get it. Apart from playing cards (like Top Trumps), what else do I get for £18? Is there a board and playing pieces (like monopoly)? Are there model bikes? An interactive DVD? What else is there apart from the cards? If it's just a set of playing cards, I stand my my original comment that I can't see how it can justify a price much above £5
-
You'll never sell a card game at £18. The nearest comparison to what you are describing is "Top Trumps". These sell at around £4 or £5. I would say £5 is the price you need to be near.
