Thanks. So no meetings have taken place at Karhula this season?
-
Isn't there a KC meeting at Karhula tomorrow, Saturday, 8 September?

What Should England Do To Rebuild For The Future.?
2ndBender replied to stratton's topic in International World of Speedway
And the BSPA could and should have done a lot more, when they had the chance. They should have put aside their blinkered self interests, and put together a rescue package which would have ensured the survival of Newport Speedway. A purpose-built facility with no-constraints planning consent enabling 365 day a year usage, and the declared involvement of their very own Phil Morris! I'm not party to any of the background politics, but was this ever considered? Oh, and the new Belle Vue, I hear you say.....I'm not holding my breath....! -
Many thanks TJ1!

That doesn't mean they'll actually sell at that price. You can often pick 'em up at collectors fairs for about 50p each. The same goes for run-of-the mill '70s league programmes you often see on eBay for £4.99 each. You'd have to be clinically insane to spend more than 20/30p each.

Does anyone have a full list of scorers from the World U21 Championship Qualifying Round staged at Wolfslake, Berlin, on 26 May, 1991? Thanks.
-
Now I'm really confused. My copy of that programme shows the Diamonds No. 7 as Jon Place, and an enclosed copy of the match report from Speedway Star confirms that Place rode, and failed to score!!??
-
Steve, Many thanks. This is the first chance I've had to look at the Forum tonight, and I'm obviously shocked by the news about the Newport situation, but I appreciate your help. RIP Wasps.

Many thanks, Steve, I appreciate that!

Does anyone have the result and points scorers from Canterbury's challenge match against Arena Essex on 24 October 1987, plus the points scorers from the Grand Slam QR at Kingsmead on 9 May 1987? Thanks.

In the Poland v England test match at Wroclaw on 09 October 1960, Peter Craven scored a 21 point maximum. Does anyone know why he was allowed to take an extra ride? Surely 'tactical substitutions' were not allowed in 18 heat test matches at that time. Did the Ref just bend the rules, to allow the crowd to see one more brilliant ride? After all, there was no chance of Poland losing; they hammered England 68~39.

It's over a year ago, now, I know, but were full heat details ever made available of LAST year's Elf Oils Series, Round Five, from Gisborne, on 19 January?
-
Just two or three.....???!!!
-
That was a very different era. However, I can remember when we used to get better crowds for Mavericks matches than some clubs got for PL. I was there until the bitter end, and all credit to the Malletts for maintaining the NL side for as long as they did, but it was obvious, even long before the end, that it couldn't be sustained. A great shame, but not a surprise.

The German Quarter~Final was held at Wolfslake on 26 May 1991. I've been looking for the result and scorers for years! -
Cardiff Gp 2012 And Cricket

Cricket??? What's that.....??? -
I'd recommend any of the Polish GPs. Great stadiums, (though not denying that the Croatian one is a good 'un), great atmosphere, and easier to get to.

Mike Daniels was meeting reserve at the Plymouth WCQR in 1961, scoring one point. He also rode for Poole in their PL match v. Newcastle, in the same year, failing to score.

Because that's where I USED to stand at Queensway Meadows, when I first registered for this forum. Then, by about 2006/2007, the dust and my dodgy knees forced a move into the stand. At that first meeting, at Somerton Park, you had to stand wherever you could find a gap - there were 10,000 there!
-
OK, here goes.... Newport 38 (Alby Golden 11, Dick Bradley 11, Peter Vandenberg 9, Geoff Penniket 5, Jon Erskine 1, Stuart Wallace 1, John Hammond 0) Cradley Heath 40 (Alan Totney 9, Eric Hockaday 8, Ivor Brown 8, John Hart 7, Frank Holmes 5, Harry Bastable 3, Glyn Chandler 0) I stood on the 'Railway End', third bend, with my brother and my Dad, totally gobsmacked! The rest, as they say, is history....!

Newport V Mildenhall Nl Sat Aug 6th At 7pm
2ndBender replied to Main Man's topic in National League Speedway
Sure it's always happened - I've seen it many times myself in my 40+ years of watching. What was worrying was how long it took to get it under control, with several officials and staff seeming to want to get in on the act. There was even a very public slanging match between a Newport official and a newspaperman in the stand. Not at all professional, and it doesn't paint the club in a very good light, especially when we're crying out for new fans. -

Disgraceful scenes, and disturbing to note how long it took to bring the situation under control. No-one seemed capable of doing so. A bad advert for Speedway in general, and for my own club's apparent inability to police a volatile situation. Added to which, the Ref was slow to get involved, as he was to use the red stop lights in two races! Shame it spoiled an otherwise good meeting. -
You could also try the Goat Major at the top end of St Mary street, towards the castle, only 5 mins or so from the stadium and the City Arms. Probably the best pint of Brains in the city centre!
-
Anyone looking for real ale, as opposed to fizz, should head for the City Arms, across the road from the stadium entrance in Westgate Street, and opposite the car park entrance.

Yes Jim had a couple of good seasons with us. As a youngster, I thought he was already past it when he signed for us, but he proved me wrong. RIP Jim.
