  1. It's a fair way from the Polish border - there's a big chunk of Lithuania in the way too! And it's a long, long way from the established Polish Speedway towns and cities. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see too many away fans making the trip.
  2. 'Beer' and Istanbul don't figure in the same dictionary, do they?
  3. That's the usual form. There's usually one queue for Newport only and another for all other destinations. It's pretty chaotic but it works. Maybe this year it won't be so bad 'cos more people might be inclined to carry on drinking in Cardiff.
  4. There are three or four trains from Newport to Cardiff every hour. It takes about 15 minutes. I'm not sure of the time of the last train, but with the earlier start-time you won't have any problems getting back. I've done this every year, as do many others.
  5. I've been to Gdansk a few times and it's a good racetrack. Last year's league match against Bydgoszcz was a classic. But you can't beat Bydgoszcz itself - for me it's the best track in the world!
  6. That's really kind of you TNT and your attitude sums up what Speedway fans are all about - we have our rivalries for sure, but we're all prepared to help each other out. I personally won't need to take you up on your offer 'cos I'll be making the 15 minute train journey from my home in Newport, but If I spot you I'll happily join you in a beer!
  7. No, it won't stop people going in - it's ALWAYS packed out. As jb says, costs have to be covered and I think £1 is reasonable.
  8. Does anyone have the results and scorers from Ivan's meetings at Mount Isa (January 14) and Toowoomba (January 21)? Thanks.
  9. Like lots of others, I'll be giving the 'racing' a miss this year - the first time I've missed Cardiff. I'm sick to death of the crap tracks they expect us to shell out good money for. So instead, I'll be taking in the memorabilia fair, having a few beers and hopefully bumping into a few friends, and then I'll be catching the train home. Somerset on Friday and Newport on Sunday will do me just fine. ARE YA LISTENIN' OLSEN!!!!????
  10. Hi Puma23, I don't have the name of a particular meeting. I just wondered if anyone had details of any of the meetings which took place there in 1987.
  11. Does anyone have any information about meetings which took place in Nyiregyhaza in 1987 - dates, results etc, particularly from individual meetings? It's a long shot, I know, but enquiries on this forum have worked wonders in the past! Thanks.
  12. Good luck to the guy, and to all the others who got badly hurt doing what they loved.
  13. Ivor didn't mean anything to me in that first meeting, but he sure did in later years! All I can really remember is Peter Vandenberg breaking his arm. My Dad didn't keep the programme, but I picked one up at a Collectors Fair years later. Yes, I can remember every word of the first verse of the song, sung to 'John Brown's Body' (were there other verses?). But I'm not going to embarass myself by quoting them on here! (I was only 11 in '64). Main Man will probably remember it too......!
  14. Gdansk v Bydgoszcz was a cracker last season, even though they were both in Division One. I was there.
  15. I was there that night, but my first meeting was the very first one on 17 April v Cradley Heath. We lost 38~40, and I stood on the third bend near the Railway End with my Dad, my younger brother and 10,000 others. I had never, ever seen anything like it, and I couldn't get enough of it!
  16. What does DM signify in Swedish Speedway terms? I know VM is World Championship, but what is DM?
  17. Thanks, Misiek. I'll be in Gdansk on Thursday, so I can go. Do you know what time the meeting starts?
  18. Does anyone know if Round IV of the Polish Junior Team Championship is taking place next Thursday, (August 7), and where it will be held? I think it was a provisional date in the calendar at the beginning of the year. Thanks.
  19. I'll be in Gdansk for a week in August taking in the Gdansk - Bydgoszcz Liga 1 match, plus all the touristy bits. Easy connections, airport/city centre/stadium, and a good racetrack.
  20. Hey Volt, you're gonna have one helluva day, and I'm really pleased for you! But don't pay too much attention to the quality of the racing, 'cos it's usually crap, compared to what it would be like on a REAL European Speedway track. But just enjoy the sense of occasion, and you'll have a great time. Enjoy....!!!
  21. They always put extra trains on after a big event at the stadium. I live in Newport and I've never failed to get a train back after the GP. I actually meant that there are lots of services FROM Newport to Cardiff during the daytime, to get you there. You may find some B&Bs if you do a search on yell.com. Failing that, the Wales Tourist Board might be a good starting point. Good luck!
  22. There's usually B&Bs available even if the hotels are booked. And don't bother with taxis, just get the train (like a lot of Newport-based fans do). It takes 15 mins, costs about £3 and there are dozens of them. After the GP you just need to get in the 'Newport only' queue outside Cardiff station.
  23. You'll get plenty of suggestions just by keeping in touch with the forum up until the GP weekend. Cardiff is a cosmopolitan city and there's a huge choice, but obviously, the nearer you want to be to the stadium on GP day, the busier it's going to be. Having said that, virtually everything you're likely to need is within walking distance on the day. If you need anything more specific, just PM me nearer the date and I'll try and help you out.
  24. I don't know if we're talking about the same guy, but a Peter Harris who was a Newport junior in '64 - '65 was definitely Welsh - Newport born and bred.
