Andre Compton Joins Glasgow
msc1874 replied to Fozzie4388's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Curve ball from our neighbours from the west. I think Andre is great. He's top drawer, one of my favourite riders in PL history. Wish him all the best for the season -
Monarchs not at the races. Track is a bit slick. Not a lot of passing. Although Lindgren has just very deliberately in my opinion taken tabaka out in heat 14. I get hard racing, but that was just plain vicious and ruthless in my opinion. Thank goodness joe got up. Newcastle 35-42 up after 13 heats and deservedly so.

Is Speedway A Family Sport
msc1874 replied to michaelcroucher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I have gone to speedway since I was less than one. I spent hours in the car sleeping off a journey back from Newcastle on a Sunday night. The start time for me is not a massive issue. I along with many others were brought up on the 7.30 start. Speedway is still friendly banter with rival fans. Pleasant to stand and watch. For me it will always be a family sport -

What about Newmans rolling start in heat 8? Swings and roundabouts mate. -

Rosco ruined a great meeting. He could not be any more anti Edinburgh if he tried. He is an awful pundit. Could lace kelvin Tattums kelvars as a pundit. Talked total drivel. Condones jumping the start then in a 50/50 call accuses sneddon of cheating...calls Doyle unbeatable. Jason Doyle is good, but rosco showed he knew nothing about the pl as he was unaware of cooks form. I love kelvin as a pundit. Rosco never again. Embarrassing On the plus side great win. Somerset is still the best race track in the uk for me should host a World Cup meeting. -

Can't argue and it shows James realises himself things just aren't working for him. Nobody knows better than the lad himself he was a top contended in the PL and tearing up trees in the EL. Shame for the boy -

Don't get me wrong I think something needed to be said. But if Sean Courtney had basically had a right go at some guys in private I think it could have been equally as effective. Basically an ex rider who knows the script telling guys this is not good enough has its merits too.. Listen I am a bit of a geek as I studied sports psychology at university. It's almost if you take the Alex Ferguson approach who lambasts his charges in private, but will defend them to the hilt in public, versus say a Roberto Msncini who will criticise guys in public. Both have merits. And maybe the promotions statement will give all a kick up the arse. But maybe some will take the attitude, stuff this not having this thrown at me. As I said before what if tigers can't make changes and have to field the same 7 again? Look I agree some speedway riders get it easy when under performing. In my book the likes of Harris and Nicholls get an easy press in the Uk when under performing at club and international level. I just think the statement could have been better worded. Was it a swipe at all 7 or just a few? You read joe screens reaction. Hey, it may prove a master stroke and turn the season or it may change nothing. Either way I admire the passion and the bravery of the promotion. I may not agree with it, but I am not a tigers fan, and I ain't putting my money into running air watching them. Good luck to Gladgow either way. -

It shows the promotion are hurting as much as those on the terraces. Is it wise to lambast your riders in public? I don't believe so, what if you can't make the changes you want and have to field the same 7 next time out? Sport psychology has gone out the window here. Riders are low on confidence, is it wise to kick them further when they are down? You have young boys in there amongst older guys who seem to lack belief...would it have been wiser to do this behind closed doors? Screen quite rightly got his back up, was it aimed at him? It never said it wasn't... We are fans, we are emotional. We've grown up with our clubs. But I think as a promoter a figurehead, you have to take emotion out of it. Down lambast your assets in public. I think the tigers promotion do seem to care deeply, but for me this is a statement I would have made, but I am not a promoter, I don't have to deal with these guys face to face; and I am probably a bit of a hot head! -

I guess it depends on the package on offer. But riders travel for work. If you're a pro you need to work to live. -

I think the promotion at Glasgow have been a bit too loyal. Now there is nothing more admirable than loyalty in this day and age, but the likes of Bager and Grieves have not lived up to past performances. Grieves is the best Scottish rider since Kenny Mac. But the James now is not the same James of even 2 years ago. James scoring 2 or 3 away from home doesn't do him justice. He I fear is looking like stoney did in his twighlight. Been at the top of his game so long I fear he is not justifying his place. Wright is doing as many of us expected. Very little. Bager flatters to deceive. The young Aussies and Jacobs are always going to find it hard when a team is struggling. Thank goodness for joe screen or the tigers would be even worse off... Hope they get it sorted -
Could A Barry Hearn Type Be Good For Speedway?

Yeah get what you mean. But I guess there is always scope for things to shift. The lay of the land to change -
Could A Barry Hearn Type Be Good For Speedway?
msc1874 replied to msc1874's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yeah. I guess so. But if clubs continue to lose cash you could one day get break away set up. Not beyond realms of possibility -
Just from reading about what Barry Hearn has done for snooker, I was thinking do you think a figurehead such as him could do anything if they were at the forefront of British speedway. Or on a much lesser scale to F1 a bernie Ecclestone type character. I don't know if this type of person could help drive the sport forward and maybe maximise commercial revenue. Would it work? I don't know but I believe it could.

Workington Comets Vs Glasgow Tigers 25th May
msc1874 replied to Django's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Frustrating night to be a Tigers fan. I say that from the outside. I think that current Tigers side are going to take some thumping in the road this season. Basically away from home, you need your heat leaders to be getting in amongst the points and unfortunately for Glasgow their current crop are not doing this on a consistent basis. Joe Screen gets his fair share, not as many as he used to but the guy still has a bit of class about him. Mr Grieves is proving more inconsistent. For my money the best Scottish rider many a year, but now seeming to struggle more and more. James wright you can't put your finger on but it's been the same problem that he's been having for the last few years. The whole guest thing, especially with rolling averages is going to create in balances. There are loop holes that can be exploited and in order to win a promoter is of course going to do that. Look at Craig Cook tearing up all tracks in many different colours. The top man in the PL at the minute but an average that doesn't reflect that form. I think long term Glasgow need a bit of an overhaul, but it's never easy. The young riders will benefit from getting a season under their belts. Then maybe it's time for surgery at the top. But that's easier said than done. I'm glad to have the tigers as monarchs and tigers need each other. The new Glasgow promotion just need to find the balance. Well done to Workington none the less. Even with guests, you still have to win matches and they are doing just that. -
I am trying to move off this and you continue to insult me. Telling me I don't know what I'm talking about and telling me I am wrong. Can you not just accept what I said is an opinion and move on or are you that arrogant that you refuse to do that. I will never admit that my comment was wrong because I stand by it. I may not like what you say I accept it. I don't call your comments wrong, they are your opinions even if I think I evidence proves otherwise. Just move on mate and accept that my comment was not correct in your eyes maybe, but that fact is it was not wrong as it was an opinion.
-
I My opinion is that double points in unfair. The context of 4 riders starting from one point and one getting double is unfair. You cannot leave it be can you... You for some reason need me to say I am wrong which I am not going to do.
-
I can't be wrong as I stated an opinion. It's an opinion. You have difficulty in accepting that. That is arrogance on your part. I don't need anybody else to tell me I am right or wrong. You are obviously a very insecure person that you need other people to back up your opinions and beliefs. I am not asking you to agree, but you seem unwilling to accept what I say telling me I am wrong. In your opinion I am wrong. This is what debate and conjecture is, you cannot grasp this which says more about you than it does about me to be perfectly honest. I will come on here and disagree and agree with people. But you cannot tell somebody that they are wrong? Because you say so...I respect you right to disagree but I will not accept you persistently shooting down my views and opinions and calling them "wrong" get off your high horse. Maybe we will never agree..but I respect your right to have an opinion and will never call it wrong. I can agree to disagree but you seem to be unable to move on unless I back down on my views. I won't do that. But honestly you need to step back a bit and not expect everyone to agree with your view..
-
I don't accept your assertion that you are correct. Away and bore somebody else with your inane ramblings, I'm done reading them...
-
Bzzzzzz you are getting boring now.

Thank goodness somebody on here understands my point. Getting called a "sad sack" or being told "complain about lay down engines" or complain when your team loses etc sums up the mentality of some on here. Are we all meant to nod and agree? To personally attack people for having a differing opinion to your own is pathetic. I go to speedway to watch racing. Love it if mg team win, but if they don't enjoy visiting new tracks and see good racing. Every team benefits and loses from the rule at some point but for me I still don't like or agree with it. The tactical sub rule was not without it's flaws either, but for me 4 riders starting from the same point and ones points count double. Fundamentally it is crazy. I get the notion that it is designed to keep matches closer but, best team on the day should win. I don't nor will I ever buy into tribalism within speedway. I can see beyond my own team, I find it very insulting some on here accuse me of this why because I raise a point. This is a forum for debate but those who name call, are you actually adults capable of accepting somebody else's differing viewpoint. Honestly.. Realistically the rule changes will never drive me away from the sport. However, new people who attend and I have introduced friends to it turn around and will say that's a bit strange. I just do not accept a system that is engineered to keep scores close. 4 guys line up at the gate all should have the chance to score the same points. One who can score double is ludicrous. Will it drive people away? I am not sure i buy into that argument yet, but I guess it could. Conversely new people to the sport if they have known nothing else will maybe just accept it as they have not known the rules to be any different in their experience of the sport. But for me for what it's worth, u will never accept that this rule. Is good, just or fair.
-
You are typical of some of the keyboard warriors on here who can't stand a person having a difference of opinion. For me I am not a fan of tactical changes full stop. I get it keeping things closer etc.. But for me I'd rather go watch racing and if a team loses they lose by 2 or 20. Same way I view watching my rugby, football and softball teams. I would say the same if it was my team gaining an advantage. Sat at Workington last Easter comets are pummelling the monarchs. Cook scores double points I turn to my mrs and say the score flatters us we are not worth that. Even getting hammered I enjoyed the banter with the comets fans round about us. I am just going to ignore posts directed at me from Bwitcher or whatever the person wants to call themselves because they are not willing to recognise somebody else's point of view. Maybe they should move to North Korea, feel at home under that type of rule

James Wright must be the most frustrating man in British speedway right now. When he beat Cookie at the dale my dad turned to me and said maybe he will kick on for Glasgow the year. Back to his old self. It's a shame because I have a hell of a lot of time for the guy, it just seems there is some spark and of course consistency missing. I am not going to use terms like lost his edge as I gave not ridden a speedway bike, and as far as I am concerned all riders who go out there week in week out have an edge. What I will say is maybe James doesn't have the belief, confidence and speed as he once had. Not all his scores this year have been poor. I really do feel for him because the ability is still there and maybe that's the frustration.
-
There is no validity? Ok. A team gets 10 up and within a race the deficit can be reduced to by 7. At least with a tactical sub it was bam a 5-1. I don't like how it unbalances the score. I think if your 10 down suck it in. Best team and all that. The tactical sub rule to me in my opinion was a better rule. With tweaking perhaps in terms of when it could be used, for me was a better option. I've seen my team take some beatings on the road. But for me the double points makes no sense. It would not happen in any other sport. The comment about complaining about engines is ridiculous. Honestly some people on here. Tunnel vision agree with me or I will slag you off and shoot you down. Why because you don't agree with my point of view. My point of view is every bit as valid as anybody else's on here. Statements like "yawn" and you have no point shows that you having nothing constructive to contribute to a debate. Obviously you can't read...
