Swedish Grand Prix
gypilgrim replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
When West Ham Utd FC take on the Olympic Stadium they will be desperate to hold events there, and they'll have the room for a nice track. Ad in the Hackney Hawks heitage at the site and the great transport links to the site, it's a no-brainer. Much better than Wembley. Thank goodness tonight's farce didn't have serious consequences. -

Why not run the meeting tomorrow AM, like they did in Croatia last year ? Conditions were, if anything, better at Scunthorpe last night and not a wheel was turned. P**s Poor -

Very fair post. As other Scorpions fans have pointed out, there is much left to work on at the track, and lighting is one of the most obvious. But we are loathe to criticise the management as they have provided us with a speedway oasis in what was, for years, a desert. Rob and the gang have built up the facilities piece by piece often using a Heath Robinson approach to problem solving. All credit to Leicester for their great new facility, but I bet Scunthorpe has cost a fraction of the new Lions track. I just wish that the attendances were better. As you pointed out the crowd was down on previous Bank Holiday double headers, in my estimation. Plus, the people leaving after the first match really did miss a great match, but that's their perogative. Switching from Sunday afternoons to Friday nights made it easier for me to attend. But then again in the modern world we all have different calls on our time, so I understand that it will never be perfect for every one. Long live the Scorpions and Saints.

As often seems to happen on Bank Holiday Monday double headers the National League fixture produces the best racing. Good effort from all the lads. For the Saints Greg Blair was Mr Entertainment. One of the few riders (PL or NL) who got the outside line to work. Glad to see Stefan Nielsen coming on strong later in the match.

Any news on the Danish Championship round this weekend ? -
Thanks.

Please remind me, f-s-p, is Timo the guy that was linked with Scunthorpe at the end of last season? Also, any further information about Tero Aarnio's condition ? There is a vacancy at Scunthorpe, are your contacts suggesting any Finns could be in the frame for the job ? Thanks, in advance.

Team Viking - Official Statement

Couldn't have put it any better. Good luck with all your future projects, and thanks for bringing Tommy J to Scunthorpe -
Best of luck to all the riders for the first National League match (and indeed, any League match)of 2011. Hope the Scunfield Prowler-Saints can get the season off to a flying start and take the first step to title glory.
-
Hi SKjr. Are they officially "The Prowlers" when they have their Sheffield hats on ?
-
Thanks.

Are all NL fixtures at Scunthorpe now, Richard ?

Would our Polish friends care to comment/speculate on the financial health of the Ekstraliga clubs ? Am I right in thinking that Leszno and Torun would be the most stable while Częstochowa, Rzeszów & Tarnów have all had recent difficulties ? Your opinions would be most welcome.

Glad to see I'm not the only one impressed by Oliver at the recent Amateur Meeting. He is the No. 8 for the Saints this year.

Unfortunately no fixture updates on either the Scunthorpe or Sheffield websites yet. Looking through the BSPA site the "home" schedule is: Sunday 3rd April v. Team Viking at Scunthorpe. ("Saints Select") B/H Monday 25th April v. King's Lynn at Scunthorpe (follows Scorpions v. Somerset) B/H Monday 2nd May v. Hackney at Scunthorpe (follows Scorpions v. Edinburgh) Thursday 26th May v. Buxton and v. Stoke at Sheffield (double header, presumably ?) B/H Monday 30th May v.Dudley at Scunthorpe (follows Scorpions v Plymouth) Friday 15th July v. Newport at Scunthorpe (follows Scorpions v. Newport Wasps) Thursday 11th August v. Isle of Wight and v. Belle Vue at Sheffield (double header, presumably ?) B/H Monday 29th August v. Mildenhall (follows Scorpions PL "2nd Phase" match.) Will the start time for the Sheffield double-headers be brought forward from the normal 7.45pm ? Is there a curfew ? The Sheffield double headers look appealing. I think that a fair few would travel from Scunny for them.

Team Viking - Spring Tour 2011
gypilgrim replied to SarahLapworth's topic in National League Speedway
Sounds like a great day's action. May I suggest that the first name contacted to make up the Saints team is young Oliver Greenwood. He looked the part last Saturday afternoon. -

Will this be a full 15-Heat match against the Saints, or are the Scandinavian lads just going to join in with the scheduled Amateur Individual event on that day? -
Faaaaaaantastic news.
-
Quite right, Malcolm. The Saints have an established local sponsor (Jotun Paints, just up the road in Flixborough). The change of team name for Sheffield gives an opportunity for a South Yorkshire sponsor to add some very welcome extra funding. "Every Little Helps".
-
Correct, Spinny. What's in a name. The great thing about the tie-up is that the young lads will get to experience both the Scunthorpe and Sheffield tracks and add to their speedway education. The new Anglo-Dane is an exciting addition. The last time that someone with dual-nationality started at reserve for Scunthorpe in the third tier he didn't do too badly, did he?
