Swc Event 1 King's Lynn 26/07/14
pandorum replied to Bagpuss's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well done England. Doubt they have a hope in hell of winning but a rostrum place is a great result. I like Kel and Nige but there are plenty of people looking for a team spot better than that Italian. They may be on a percentage of his earnings though. Italy a joke team and it was more a 3 team tournament. Hope USA finish 2nd -

Hardly a great spectacle but absorbing enough to enjoy. We are doing really well and Stead has certainly stuffed his critics words back at them (including me). Yanks doing well and Billy would be a fool to replace any of his men by tac subs as 3rd is a certainty and they need the experience. It's not their fault as they are not up to the standard but Italy are an absolute joke team. Imagine the meeting if Russia was not in a mess -
Speedway Champions League ?
pandorum replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
No it's not. Footballers play for one team as they are given a weekly wage that is enough to allow them to live off it. They are paid all year round whether they play or not. Injured or just left out because they are moaning or crap they still get their full wage. Speedway rider's are self employed and ride on a match or series of matches basis. If they are not riding they are not earning so riding in different countries in different leagues is a necessity. Footballers can train in lavish facilities whilst speedway riders need meetings to keep themselves competitive as the clubs they ride for don't have the option to provide training facilities for riders. A footballer usually lives in the area they play in whilst a speedway rider could be based hundreds of miles from where his team are. Speedway has practically nothing that can be compared to football. Football is a very rich well run sport whilst speedway is a very poor badly run sport. The idea that's someone with ambition like Darcy or Tai can ride for ONE team only is too daft for words as nobody could afford to pay them the wage they would require to be able to do that. Of course a Champions League in speedway is a non starter but that does not mean some kind of competition between countries cannot be envisaged. Once we used to see touring sides come to Britain and provide great entertainment. Back then all the best riders rode here. Now the boot is on the other foot but why not involve a British team in this kind of thing. There is no point comparing it to some kind of Champions league that other well run sports have. Speedway is a pretty insignificant sport even in places where it is popular and it will always just be some Mickey Mouse made up idea but may well provide some entertainment for those who watch it. -

It's a sad state of affairs when we have to hope the opposition riders drop out to give us a chance to progress on home shale. 2nd probably best we can hope for but you never know the lads might just surprise their critics and win. I do hope so and best of luck to the GB quartet also hope for a good close meeting with all 16 going home in the same condition they turned up in -

Speedway Champions League ?

But speedway isn't like football so why do people keep using such a comparison. It's a decent idea and better to have 4 teams that can compete than 3 good ones and a Brit one that gets slaughtered. It's only a made up competition for TV and not really anything serious. If it happens enjoy it for what it is rather than moan about what it isn't. -

What's it matter. I would have left out Harris let alone the other two. I would have thrown Garrity in but none of it matters now as that argument is long past it's sell by date. I will support what is there as I would love Team GB to win the bloody thing. That's his job mate. I am sure that England were given similar treatment in the recent World Cup from some quarters. It won't be Nigel's fault if it all ends in tears. -

I am totally critical of Roscoe's team pick but anything is possible and I hope we make it straight through. Hell Bomber might go mental in Poland and score a max just to annoy this place. I will be shouting at the screen for the Brits whatever happens. I may not like the team Rosco picked but Go Team GB!!! -
Does this mean that the Yanks have to pull out of their base as well as I am sure that the noise from the airbase is louder than any from the speedway. I remember several times being blasted out of my slumber crashing in the car park as a Galaxy transport flew about what seemed like 10 feet above my head. With idiocy like this from the justice system speedway will have to shut up shop or just move over to pedal bikes.

Well that explains the thread

Are you mad? Have you never 'read' threads here. There are hundreds of excellent ideas from fans on this place. Every year since I have been a member I have seen thread after thread of ideas how to make speedway better but all we ever see are the same tired old fiddling's from a bunch of blinkered idiots so why should we the fans have to solve speedways problems? The idiots in charge should read this place and implement the cornucopia of ideas put forward from fans but to them fans are the enemy and the only real ideas they have involve giving less for more every year. I am an old man and have seen plenty of speedway but nowadays prefer to travel the world and watch heavy rock and metal so you are not gonna get me back but there are plenty of kids out there would love this sport if it was tailored to their expectations. Standing around in a dull dilapidated rubbish tip waiting for something to happen is no longer my idea of a good night out and I am sure that applies to most of the population. So the answer is really quite simple stop what it is you are doing and do something else and make it a more exciting experience and both cheaper and more VFM. But nobody who matters ever listens so the sport will have a thread like this in a years time asking the same questions whilst forgetting the answers are already here courtesy of the fans of the sport both paying customer and people like me who have done our bit but would still love to see the sport flourishing again This contradicts your last post

Half Price Admission For Away Season Ticket Holders?
pandorum replied to Ommer Mon's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I used to attend meetings all year round that did not involve the team I supported. Sometimes a rider associated with my team was there sometimes it was nothing more than a long weekend of speedway somewhere else. It was called being a speedway supporter in my day. I have no idea if that concept still exists but back then it was very popular. Now with high costs and weak teams it's probably not as attractive as it once was but I travelled the length and breadth to watch speedway regularly utilising every night of the week and at weekends and would regularly see several meetings a week. -
great crowd but sadly poor match by Polish standards. Only Darcy and Emil up for any real fight from the main body and Przedpelski in the reserve berth. The idea that Gollob might make the WTC cut is an insult to the lads already put forward. Of course he will do better when he rides for his country but Kolodzeij and Protasiewicz are miles better this year and to take one of them out to suit Gollob would be an outrage He is becoming the Chris Harris of Polish racing. Tarnow will take some stopping this year I think for the title.

I nearly had a heart attack that last heat when the cameraman gave us a close up of the yellow 'gate'. If I was a rider I would settle for last place if I ended up with yellow I nearly choked on a crisp when I read that. -

The Polish WTC press release that they may well include Gollob seems as daft as some of our selections. They have their best 4 by a mile and to try and appease fans by including Tomas would be insane as the bloke is sadly a shadow of his former self. Emil needs to get his act together if he wants to win this as Vazulak looks unbeatable. He was excellent here in June for Mega Lada and looks like he will repeat the feat by going unbeaten. Emil pulled out of his Dad's meeting on Friday so I wonder if he has some bike problems? -

Yeah I read that Wikipedia page years ago when I first started watching Russian speedway. Still dumbasses for not taking the few seconds of trouble to find out how to pronounce it. Poor form from so called commentators if I can find out after knowing about the place for 5 minutes surely it's not too much to ask of them. Some decent speedway so far. Boganovs did well there. -

Good ride from Vazulak (whoever he is) looks like he made good use of his last meeting there in June. Pity Artem Laguta isn't there but can see Mega Lada's POV having Belousov. He is pretty good round there but Artem was a bit of a Togliatti master. Yeah they have been the best centre green entertainment I have seen since watching speedway Maybe they are currently in the Ukraine? And for you Alan my vote goes to Yellow. -

Bad start by Rowe and Jan as they are not at Togliatti at all but Tolyatti. It's good manners to at least bother to find out what the place is called At least they are not in Moldow The interview bloke got it right so why could they not? Good crowd
