A couple of great contributions Steve. Thanks for that. I did notice that Barney Oldfield was racing cars on some trotting tracks. You look at the careers of some of the early pioneer bike racers and they rode wherever there was a meeting organised,be it on the boards, dirt or roads. At that stage there wasn't specific bikes and riders for each surface I did post info on another thread that some manufacturers were supplying special bikes made for racing without brakes,so nice to have that confirmed by you

Here is a list that might help https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_attendance_figures_at_domestic_professional_sports_leagues
-
As salty pointed out the thread was interesting until you started on one of your crusades to control what was allowed and not allowed to be posted
-
But the error wasn't sorted because i quoted it!!! And pointing out an error isn't making a "song and dance".Doubt if i could contact you by pm as i think you might have stopped me from doing that? The only way is to point it out online.I have no way of knowing if anyone else will subsequently contact you via pm And the best bit is you even thanked me and said you had edited the post on my advice!!! You are the one who always makes a "song and dance" about everything, including on this thread trying to divert attention to the Grass track, longtrack section........
-
No it wasn't as you can see by the quote and then Dutchgrasstracks answer to my post!!!!Why do you continue to lie?It isn't bad to make a mistake and for someone to correct it Just trying to help out.It is all there in the thread with times and dates
-
Glad we got that sorted. Here's a good 'un Plus i think if you look at some of those threads, like the Grass Track one,i have just corrected some of your mistakes for you.Helping as ever This one for instance where gustix didn't even notice it was two different sets of riders on the podium!!! http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=83743&page=3 Darmstadt also held Board track racing in the past
-
Not in this case. You can see how it developed.Vince posted he would have loved to have seen Board Track racing.I posted some links to show him it is in a way still possible. That was my only thought, because i have posted similar things on another thread a few years ago.Must have not included gustix as it recieved no problems. In fact if you look gustix then found a similar link of modern Board track and posted that himself. Before possibly deciding i knew more about it,so then tried to stop that development. Now he has gone back and posted a bike that could well be used in one of those modern videos. There is no difference..........But yet again we will pick on iris123 instead of gustix
-
Then you cleary are just reacting to my posts because of who posted them as those posts are with the very same old or replica bikes........never mind eh
-
Doesn't this come under the category "modern stuff" that TWK and i thought you, wanted posted elsewhere? oh ok then.1912 Excelsior in Germany
-
Didn't happen like that though. Both were running side by side with the same riders. You could say that the closing of the Motordromes helped give Dirt track racing the dominance. But "loose surface was soon adopted" gives a totally false picture.Don Johns was winning on the dirt tracks about a decade before many of those Motordromes on gustix wiki link were even built

Grand Prix Challenge 2017
iris123 replied to STEPHEN 333's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
See the Danish qualifier was abandoned last night and won't be run.The DMU are now going to pick their nominations!!!! -
Couple of Americans riding in Europe at the moment i think.Ricky Wells and some guy Broc Nicholl(not sure if that is correctly spelt )maybe more
-
Hmm,not sure you checked that well.I even mentioned you had started a thread with Vince's video before.
-
Next door neighbours?Doubt many from the US would travel over to boost the crowd......
-
I agree.I hope i am ok in posting the modern day stuff?Vince did say he wished he could have seen the original racing.I just wanted to show that there is a way to watch it,even though it is more a hobby than competetive racing. But the bikes are originals or copies of the originals on tracks very similar to the original ones.Probably the best chance to get the feel. One or two of the tracks like Bielefeld are actually concrete rather than wooden bards though But apart from just posting links to old film i am not sure how anyone can really answer gustix when he asks A very interesting site http://thevintagent.blogspot.de/2008/12/board-track-racing-on-film.html Some photos https://de.pinterest.com/pin/454863631085967448/

Two different sets of riders. The second photo is of the European Semi-final.The first photo looks like juniors or another class, but not the international class -
Sure there are a number of posts and links on here about Board Track racing.Seem to remember posting a very interesting film shot in the US by a Czech motorcycle dealer who was there back in the early days. Still have a few events every year here in Germany, although obviously quite tame with those vintage bikes.Darmstadt and i think from memory Bielefeld https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpDRgVAwSZo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCl1u_Mft_w In fact gustix did a thread with the very same video that Vince has posted last year

Seems to be running under a new category for me,"Bookazine" rather than book or magazine,so maybe hedging their bets on how well it sells?
-
Does seem that those who were arguing Colin had been wrongly assesed are actually now confirming the point that he was around the same level as the riders suggested!!!!
-
It would seem if Billy Bales did ride there it wasn't during the period you mention. He done his national service during the 1950-1952 period, which is outside your time span https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Bales http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/views/derek-james/norfolk-speedway-star-has-never-been-forgotten-1-996597

Might well be,but when assesing how many British finals each qualified for, age doesn't come into it for instance.Britsh finals seems a decent way to see how any rider especially at that time compared with his rivals of the day.And in 1970 as i mentioned Colin didn't qualify even if he was starting to score some points before Lokeren

One rider well known for that here in Germany.I am told by one or two experts that he looks brilliant out on his own,but once 3 other riders are next to him at the tapes he seems to go to pieces
