  1. Yes an important point about what system of GP people are assuming would have been used.
  2. Said the Hofman boys were impressive .Well the 1 that rode was.Sure it was Michel who won the meeting in Brokstedt for the 250cc class.Looks a good prospect
  3. What is this place coming too? A Poole thread that only has 5 pages and a GP thread only running to 6!!!! Typical Vojens weather.I was soaked by about 15:30 and couldn't dry out until i got home But despite the weather it is great to see the stadium so full. The big meetings in Denmark are being well attended.Could do with a few more of the fans going to Superliga meetings. And of course the Euro U19 Team meeting last week only getting 500+
  4. I don't think it is quite so easy to say "look at his league form".Winning a title no matter if it is in a GP series or a one meeting title need bottle to get past the "Oh i am in with a chance of winning this thing" scenario.Lot's of riders choke in that situation,as do other sportsmen and women.I think Hans had a bit of a psychological problem at first which would have been there in a GP series just as much as the one day finals.Even he was on record back in the 80s as saying he didn't like big tracks. And in a GP series how many of the tracks would have been of a fair size back then?
  5. Heard last week at Holsted that all Danish Superliga clubs will have to have an airfence next season. So far only Vojens and Fjelsted have one as far as i know.I can imagine it will be pretty hard to get the cash together for a few clubs like Grindsted.I guess Peter S will be busy with this one And talking to Ivan Bjerre last night,it looks like we will have to wait until next season to see Lasse in the Superliga now
  6. Winter!!!! There won't be any European league fixtures affected
  7. One of the important parts of the interview is this bit,i think...."Grand Prix are shown in 117 countries - and ultimately it is not inconceivable that the speedway go and become a year-round sport. - The possibilities are there. It's just about to seize them, think Ole Olsen." Whether it is possible to have the riders competing throughout the year i can't say.But i guess if tv back the plan then you could possibly see GP's being held in our winter,in Asia + Australasia
  8. Olsen will no longer be Race Diretor in 2010....but wants to enlarge the series to 15 meetings
  9. Imo some people seem to be regarding this as a "best rider never to have won a World Title" thread.I would say that is different to a World Champions that never were thread.A rider that had not only the ability, but the right attitude to win a World Title.I guess Farndon,Huxley and Parker can be included because they won what was the World Championship of the time without the title, meeting.Star Riders Championship. But i don't think the Morans can be included as they might have had the ability, but not the right attitude........same for a lot of riders mentioned here.Tommy Jansson would be one i would tentatively mention.Who knows how good he could have been?
  10. From little acorns and all that. But it does seem that the smaller nations are going off at a tangent to the well established ones.Although i think eventually the Scandinavians and Poles will have to come up with something other than two stroke 80cc meetings Surprised the Czechs haven't entered anyone as i thought 250cc was their thing as well.Saw the Hofman boys when they were up in the north a few weeks back and they were pretty impressive.
  11. I would say certain riders just don't have the mental toughnes to be a World Champ, regardless of the system.Leigh Adams i think would be a bottler in a one off final, just as he is in the GP's when the stress is on
  12. fotos Great to meet up with you too Anders And i thought Bach was at fault in that one as well. That is the way it goes sometimes.Like you say,Denmark were always struggling after LiGlad broke the tapes.Bjerregaard had a bad crash the day before.Wrecked his bike and hurt his neck in the process, but Palm Toft surprised me with some good rides. As i said to Jan.....next year with Mikkel M,Mikkel B and Lasse Bjerre should be better for the Danes
  13. Yes.I have heard that the Russians want the Championship to be changed to U23 or something,to give other countries a better chance, but whether this will be done, and whether it will really change the Russian dominance is another matter
  14. Berry Tomes, the Hackney rider?Didn't know he had a book out
  15. Can't say fairer than that.But.......do other sports drop the price if the best competitors or teams fail to make it through? If United,Chelsea,Arsenal don't get through to the FA Cup are the prices cheaper? If Brazil and Germany don't make it into the World Cup Final are the prices cheaper? If the Williams sisters etc get knocked out are the prices for the Wimbledon tennis cheaper?etc,etc......i don't know
  16. Trouble is Polish fans are well known for not going to meetings other than League meetings(excluding GP's.Although you could say that even GP's don't attract that many, when you take into account the amount of foreign fans at a Polish GP).I don't think there are very many meetings over the years where a crowd as big as a League meeting has turned up.So i wouldn't use those figures as evidence.Zielone Gora will get 15,000 for a league meeting, but if you held a challenge meeting against the same team you would get only a couple a 1000 regardless of the price. The same goes for practically every Polish team As eveidence look at the recent and previous Ed Jancarz Memorial meetings.Always a fantastic line-up with very cheap tickets, but still the stadium is half empty
  17. It is the qualifier for the GP's.So that makes it second in importance to the GP's.The standard of rider that has managed to get through isn't known until they have qualified. And as they have beaten riders of a "better" standard in the process surely the qualification process should be of some consideration. The qualification process for the ELRC is totally different from that of the GP Challenge and is of little importance in the speedway world.hence the amount of riders that normally don't bother with it(or am i mistaking it for another meeting?).The GP Challenge is of high importance to most of the riders in the world(Scott Nicholls excluded)and should be priced accordingly. You listed a number of meetings and in doing so made a perfect case against your argument
  18. Value for money?I would put this meeting in terms of ranking inbetween the ELRC and the British GP,so the price looks about right. As for the quality of the racing just look at the post above
  19. Wildcard should have gone to Nicolai or Patrick. And LiGlad should have been one of the track reserves. This time next year he will be better than Morten or Kenneth Hansen,imo....
  20. All the heat details are on the Holsted website in the forum section
  21. Yeah.Jimmy White and Leigh Adams has to be one of the worst comparisons ever
