  1. Down by/in South Africa Not Exactly sure without a map, might be a free state within the South African border.Maybe someone knows better
  2. Must have been popular with Briggo as he fitted his World Troupe out in them, for the series in Israel at least
  3. Havent found any yet.Just have the scorers and the story from "Barry Briggs Speedway World" which was a special magazine published by the Motorcycle News with pictures of the tour There was also speedway in Lesotholand As some of the South African riders are mentioned as riding there
  4. Found some results from Israel 1976 Tel Aviv USA 30 Rest of World 42 Bethsheba USA 34 RoW 38 Tel Aviv USA 37 RoW 35 Tel Aviv USA 37 RoW 34 Tel Aviv USA 35 RoW37 Israeli Open Championship 1st semi Fundin,O.Berg,M.Curoso,F.Shuter 2nd semi Penhall,B.Larsson,S.Nutter,Briggs(ef) Final Berg,Fundin,Penhall,Larsson
  5. Briggo and Mauger held at least one meeting in Israel i think.late 70`s Garnet Thistlewaite was a native of Port Moresby that i think Birmingham were interested in or rode second half here, mid 70`s
  6. That was the reason. Its been in the press here for quite a while, but like you say everyone was expecting it to be Schultz or Wolter.Someone who does concentrate on speedway and at least it would give Matze some experience for the future. But it is reasonable to expect the Czechs to want to choose the rider they think will be the biggest draw and as Barth is a World Champ and still the best speedway rider in Germany, thats what happens. Like i said before this could happen more in the future where its which country has the money dominates especially if the company that holds the rights nomnates the wild cards
  7. British Rail from South Bermondsey to either London Bridge or Clapham and change to the tube would have simplified the journey
  8. All about money .They want as many german fans to come as possible
  9. Know what you mean My mums family came from Walthamstow and it was a real family day out to go there.Just like going to Canvey Island. There would be at least 2 car loads leaving Wandsworth and it seemed to take forever. Tried once to find this gathering at High Beech, ended up walking around Epping Forest but didnt see any speedway supporters
  10. Both Schultz and Knakowski suffered engine problems when in second place.Wölbert(14 years old) also battled well for his points. In heat4 he clashed with Wienke and could only cruise home for a point. He then fell trying to chase Matze and gave Hefenbrockhis only defeat in the main meeting after a good battle.Matze proved his class by beating Hefe in the semi and final(coming round the outside,Hefe fell and when the race was restarted Schultz done it again)although finishing with less points because of his e.f In the B-Lizenz Matze Bartz was unstopable just like at Güstrow the other week, but a special mention must go to Enrico Sonnenberg who was always battling for his points from the back No crowd figure given but i would guess around 400,maybe less
  11. Don`t know the exact details as it was told to me in german and my medical knowledge of german isnt that good but he had a brain tumor, not sure if that was the cause or quite when he died.Wasn`t a track accident though

  13. Give the address then.Do they mention a price for overseas subscriptions?
  14. Hows the Wembley book coming along?
  15. Come, come,no buses either .I used to cycle from Merton to Eastbourne and Rye House and Arena Essex.Surely you could have made it from Hackney to Wimbledon
  16. Great start if it isnt finished Like Norbold`s memory of his first visit, but that was a lame excuse not to visit Plough Lane.I thought in those days the routes for buses went from one side of London to the other and we had the underground in the south surely it reached east london by the 50`s Liked the Ronnie Moore site as well
  17. Put 2 more on of ,i think John Dews and Christer Sjosten that i would swap if anyones interested
  18. Thanks again Guess you never know what stories will turn up when you ask about riders from the past.Happy as well as sad.It was only while talking to a supporter last year that i heard of Simon Wiggs death .I guess the fact that we still fondly remember or think of these guys is a consolation however small. It was for that reason i put a photo of Tommy Jansson on the site
  19. Thanks. After 30 years i finally found out who they are
  20. Thanks again Frigbo. As i missed a lot over the last decade or so what happened to Nigel?
  21. Added a few more if you can help. With the Mildenhall team its the 2 on the right .Lynn its the rider between Crowson and Betts. The Scunthorpe team i only recognise Andy Buck,Woffinden and is it McNamara as well Not too sure with the Middlesbrough team and the rider crashing ,well you may have seen the photo before and know who it is Was relying on you Norbold for the Dons riders .Always thought the rider on the right was Mirac as i have a few pics with him in the same leathers but have also seen him in the other set of leathers in one of your books
  22. spot on there.Know the meeting 26 May 86.That makes it heat 9 with Per Jonsson.Have another with Nielsen leading Andersson and Jonsson, might put that on later
  23. The photograph says 1954 on it, which would fit in with the team members. I agree with bucket the rider on the front right is Keith Gurtner. Your probably right.the photo says 54 because that was my original thought going by the riders i knew but that guy at the front was making me think it was earlier. CHK, i was wondering why Pat Clarke wasn`t mentioned.he was one i expected to be there although i haven`t the faintest what he looks like
  24. Great help so far Must say i`m amazed.Any info on Brian Davies and Jim Crowhurst, must say i don`t know them Never heard of Mac Woolford either. Thanks Bucket the Southampton team i wasn`t expecting too much help with. How wrong i was. Put a few more on.The Dons riders i think one is Ronnie Moore.Poole 88 Its the back row on either side of Neil Street.Rye House 1, its the no 6 kneeling.Rye House 2 ,the one at the back between Naylor and Andy Silver and the one kneeling in front of him.The other Rye House team i dont know the two riders between P.Shroek and R.R Ta As for the Courtnell brothers i see there is a T.Courtnell listed in 54 whats his first name if its him, anyone? Must admit when i have looked at the photo i always thought front left looked like a Russian then saw Hveem rode around that time so presummed it was him. Thanks Norbold
  25. Thanks.Put a Swindon team on as well if you could help.I know the obvious ones Kilby,Broadbanks but guess you could give me the lot and a year :)Barry Duke with the beard?
