  1. One one hand you accept the FIM as arbiters on whether Hancock should be crowned champion, but on the other you don't accept the referee's judgement on whether he deliberately lost heat 9. The referee was the arbiter and it was his decision; no other proof is required. Hancock is the 2016 world champion, but for many his actions have placed into question the veracity of other results at the highest level of the sport. If we can't have faith that the riders are trying to win, and if we can't be sure race results aren't being pre-arranged, why should we bother investing time and money in following speedway?
  2. Ah, the old "two wrongs make a right" argument. The more duplicity in speedway is defended the more the sport is dragged into the gutter.
  3. Perhaps he had the benefit of assistance during world championship qualifiers and thinks it's acceptable.
  4. Any potential promoter worth his salt will already have done his homework about the fanbase and the large number of once-regulars who stopped going during the Hemsley era. Save your money for a relevant meeting instead of wasting it on this non-event.
  5. We have been privileged to witness one of the greatest riders British league speedway has ever seen. From his early days at Wolves, when the geeky-looking young man wasn't afraid to mix it with established stars (ask Jason Lyons), to a smooth, polished racer and team man, PK always seemed to have exceptional anticipation and awareness of where his opponents were. He probably passed more opponents in his career than anyone except Les and Neil Collins. He is a thinker off the track too, with genuine concern for speedway as a product and those who pay to see it. A thoroughly nice man with time for everyone and a dry sense of humour. It saddens me that he didn't achieve more in the World Championship, but I'm sure it meant he wasn't holding anything back when he rode for his league teams. We always saw PK at his best. I couldn't make it to the play-off final, but I will definitely be there for the farewell meeting of a real legend.
  6. It's a pity the sport lacks a campaigning magazine to lead the way and galvanise support.
  7. Since when did the BSPA place the fans first? They have to run the fixture, because if they accepted the alternative, ie that Leicester has effectively folded, the Lions' results would need to be expunged from the records, placing Swindon fourth in the table instead of Lakeside.
  8. And Simon Stead, sticking rigidly to the format and not daring to use his initiative, passed up the opportunity to ask Adams and actually keep the viewers informed.
  9. A quick question - does anyone know whether Les Collins and Ken McKinlay rode in the same heat in any official team match?
  10. A quick question - does anyone know whether Les Collins and Ken McKinlay rode in the same heat in any official team match or individual event?
  11. That's a tame version of what was said during the King's Lynn match.
  12. What I meant was: while he is not allowed access to certain parts of the stadium, is he sidestepping other aspects of the suspension by describing himself as owner rather than promoter?
  13. Is Hemsley suspended from promoter duties? Is describing him as owner rather than promoter just a semantic difference?
  14. Presumably the SCB have refused to sanction any new promoter to prevent Mrs Hemsley being introduced as a puppet promoter. It would cause a problem if Darcy and/or Machin decided to walk, but I think the BSPA would ensure Leicester see out the season. This situation can't remain indefinitely. If he didn't pay the fine, would that make him unfit to be a promoter at some point, leading to his license being revoked?
  15. It's incredibly naïve to disregard something just because there's no reference to it on the internet, and equally naïve to believe it just because there is. There doesn't have to be a link to everything that's true, neither does the absence of a link mean something is untrue. There is life outside the internet; it would do us all good to get off the computer/phone/tablet for a while and enjoy it. (It's "your", not "you're" btw)
