When Is A Rider Considered Too Good?
Arson fire replied to barrow boy's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Watching Cook last year was probably the first time I've thought Anyone was to good, he's streets ahead of most if not all in the PL..and I can see why the nitro rumour mongers were piping up, because its not the norm. Don't think I've never seen a rider win by so far around Brough, he was at least half a lap ahead, so when someone is that much better the entertainment value is virtually nil IMO. -
p!ssed?

swap Elkof for the likes of Newman or Sneddon and that's a cracking team. -
will get beat at home also IMO

That's even worse than last year. I agree, wouldn't touch anyone with that high an average.... Including cook.
-
Wouldn't touch kenni with a barge pole, coming back from injury on that average....

Cook, being vice chairman of the BSPA is hardly going to come out and say this idea is rubbish and we are using young lads to save British speedway is he..... And if this is working well in Sweden, who are the up and coming superstars that have benefited and developed like we are led to believe?? Rosen, Engman, thorsell?? -

dave I know the input you have and I also know that you are very knowledgeable and have a massive passion for the grassroots, and the sport in general... I admire people like you and take my hat off,..I don't understand the concept though of totally bypassing a level and for some being thrown in at the deep end.... You wouldn't pass your 100m badge then be in an Elite swimming team for example,or join a professional football club and get anywhere near the reserves nevermind the first team until I'd served my apprenticeship so to speak, nobody did...nearly every sport has an infer structure and a ladder you climb to the top. I agree some are better than others or develop and learn quicker... If it works great, but I can't help thinking we are setting some of them up to fail in the long run.... If the BSPA want to develop lads then why have they totally leapfrogged the PL?? That's why I'm of the opinion it boils down to money, otherwise we would have a proper development- training plan in place or scholarships and the like...I take on board what you say, though I still think young lads are being used to save top level speedway in this country... I just hope clubs are loyal to them. -

it wasn't me that said that?? It was what I was told.I have heard about all if the above that you mention, but there is a massive difference to riding in the EL from that.... And even EL from NL.....where is the provision beyond these championships... What is done for a youngster just breaking into the NL... (Genuine question) and were all of the emerging british youngsters given an equal shot of going on the boocock trips or the same select few for a few year?? If it was for the benefit of youngsters then logic says that the natural progression is NL, PL then EL surely?? You having been in the inner sanctums of the Bspa obviously no more than me and I bow to your superior knowledge..... But we've seen the likes of this before and it's sharply been dispatched with when it doesn't work or suit.. In your opinion then ( and you should know) will this enhance our younger riders by riding against their own ilk anymore than what they do in the NL??. You can't blame fans for being cynical dave, ESP those who've followed the sport for years. -

well if its to aid the development of riders, lets see how it pans out, lets see who is the first to drop a rider who is not on the pace, lets see which clubs stand by there youngins when changes need making or can be made....since when has the Bspa been bothered about developing our youngsters? I spoke with an ex team gb manager a few year ago at the fours and even he said then that they wernt Interested in the future... Just the hear and now. Will these all of a sudden fantastic people at the Bspa reduce admission for the inferior product they are selling do you think?? It could do these riders more harm than good IMO.... We have development leagues and the NL... Are we now saying these arnt working or arnt good enough??... And why has the PL not got these measures in place??.... That will be because its not in the sh!t as much I'd suspect?? -

Anyone who thinks this decision about the reserves was to aid their development is deluded.... They are being used as a tool to cut costs pure and simple. It would be a travesty should Kings Lynn not get Lambert and Kerr.... I just can't see how the Bspa can allocate clubs assets or those that they've helped develop for years to another club?? It's like going to work, doing a cracking job and your company director punching your lights out.... Say Belle Vue get Lewis Kerr, why the hell should the lad have to travel to travel every week, costing him a fortune when his local track is round the corner.... It's a whitewash I think -

In allocating NL riders, do they not realise the gulf in class of some of them is massive?? Or is it just me??.... No disrespect but Ellis, Morris, Boxall, lambert, blackbird, Kerr, etc etc where different gravy to Brendan Johnson and the likes... Be interesting to find out just what a NL rider compromises, if tony Atkin makes a comeback, will he be ok to ride in the EL as a NL rider... At the age of 85??
