Ipswich vs Oxford 27th June

Oxford probably would have won at Foxhall earlier in the season when Tungate didn’t fancy it (sorry I mean was stuck in traffic) and Oxford had to run with 6 riders. We won by 6 in the end, with Oxford only having one representative in four heats. Lots of anomalies there though. Nicholls guesting FOR Oxford, not for us. But then Doyle was riding and we were at full strength. Harris and Janowski unbelievably scored seven between them! That won’t happen again. Harris far better at Foxhall than his score of 4, and Janowski is now riding far better than his score of three that evening. Does that mean anything regarding tonight’s meeting? No, not really. Which means all I’ve just typed was a waste of time and a load of old guff really -

Agree Badge. Vital member of the team who is riding really well. -

Agreed. I had to keep checking the programme to make sure it was actually him! Foxhall has to be one of if not THE best away track for him over the years. -
Got there in the end.

Leicester can’t use Edwards. They’ll have to pick an unattached rider from the rising star list.
-
When Dan Thompson’s season ended early last year, Ipswich had to use Joe Thompson (unattached) and Jack Smith (unattached) from the rising star list as guests. Edwards also guested once, AFTER being dropped by King’s Lynn and therefore unattached.
-
I know he was on the list, that doesn’t change what I’ve said. Why were Ipswich told he was ineligible to guest for their missing rising star, but Leicester haven’t? That list might just not have been updated. Edwards being named in the 1-6 means he’s no longer a rising star. Gilkes is the Sheffield rising star, you don’t run with two rising stars. Exactly the same happened a few years ago when Ipswich signed Anders Rowe who was on the rising star list, as their senior reserve at number 6. The same “rule” was applied then. Could be one of three things. Ipswich were given duff information and didn’t use Edwards on the back of it despite being free to do so. Leicester could have made a mistake and will have to do what Ipswich did and make a late swap. Or thirdly, they’re all just letting it go because nobody can really be @rsed with it all. My money’s on number three.
-
Once Sheffield named Edwards in their 1-6, Edwards was no longer a “rising star”. Sam Hagon is the Leicester rising star, which makes Edwards ineligible. Again, Ipswich named Edwards as a rising star guest for Dan Thompson (Ipswich’ rising star) away to Birmingham, but had to make a late change and used Freddy Hodder from the rising star list after allegedly being told Edwards was ineligible to guest. Why is one club being told one thing and another the complete opposite?
-
That doesn’t make any sense.
-
Dan Thompson was in the 1-5 away at Birmingham, and Edwards was booked to guest but wasn’t allowed, hence Freddy Hodder was drafted in late in the day. Reasoning being, Edwards is no longer a rising star this season despite being on the list at the start, so can’t replace another rising star no matter what position in the team they are.
-
That was Ipswich. Edwards was booked to replace Dan Thompson when he had covid, but for the reason you say he wasn’t allowed so we had to use Freddy Hodder instead away at Birmingham.

That heat 7 ride from Emil was fantastic . Took Masters right out to the fence allowing Rew to nip past on the inside to join him for a 5-1. Superb stuff. -

That caught my attention too Badge. So nothing imminent, but MAYBE they have an agreement with someone to come in from the start of July.. -
https://ipswichwitches.co/raceday-preview-leicester-rowe-motor-oil-premiership-r1-h/ King back, Nicholls in for Doyle.

All I can say is fair play to you Siggy, travelling with a poor forecast. Just wish our sport had more supporters like you!

I think the supporters of other clubs on here would be absolutely delighted if we jumped the gun and signed a 6 point replacement for Doyley We have to wait.
-
Just posted something very similar, and I agree.

They’re trying but it’s proving difficult. Just when they think they’re making progress and a deal looks done, something crops up and it collapses. So many stars need to align before a deal gets completed, especially for the top end fellas. Although it’s nice to finish top and I’m confident we would have but for the issues we’ve faced, but it isn’t vital. The cup final is in the bag, and the final isn’t until September, neither are the play offs. Personally I think it’s wise to muddle through with guests and rider replacement until a quality option further down the line becomes available, than to make a signing now that might not be as good just to get a full 1-7 out. The pots aren’t handed out until September.

Looking at the stats between last season and this so far, over all meeting (League and Cup) 2023: 10.73 2024: 8.74 So you’re currently looking at a two point drop off from last year which is significant. It’s not as if he’s suddenly “downed tools” over here and going through the motions whilst flying elsewhere, because his average in Poland has dropped off a cliff this year also so he’s definitely having issues by his high standards. It’s ironic that last year our strength was the most potent top end in the league whilst our bottom end was the weak link, this year it’s flip flopped! Emil struggling and Doyle/King/Ellis out injured, but it’s been the big improvement from Rew and Thompson in particular that has carried us through meetings! If we had Doyle and a firing Emil then I agree it wouldn’t even be a contest. Edit: other than his spell on the sidelines, Ellis has also been a big factor. Comfortably riding above his average which to be honest, we all expected him to do. Clearly a far better rider than he showed last year for Sheffield.
