  1. Alas cannot get to the NA tonight but here's to a great and injury free meeting and a 'white out' for Rico! Understand Tshirts, wrist bands, book of condolence and more available at stall manned by Freya Louis plus 'Gentleman' George and Linda Barclay so do look out for that.
  2. Glad I decided to sit in the comfort of the ref's car for a while as we got to the track early rather than go straight up to the officials' box! IF I had have done the latter I fear I might have drowned because boy-oh-boy it sure did rain!
  3. Just received confirmation that tonight's scheduled cup clash with the Dudley Heathens has been POSTPONED thanks to our glorious UK Summer weather! No new date as yet.
  4. Not good news regarding injuries, especially Nathan's broken leg - I'm wishing him a speedy recovery and feel sure everone else does.
  5. As anyone who knows her at the home of the Hammers, and that's all the home fans and many visiting ones too, there is only ONE 'Scary Sheila' for she really IS unique 'iris123!'
  6. PM me your email addy and I'll be able to put you in touch with Scary. Alternatively see her at the Lakeside Hammers next home meeting.
  7. Yes Scary Sheila is taking bookings for the Fun Bus but book asap to avoid disappointment.
  8. Or perhaps they don't realise that adult admission is just £11 and kids under 10 are admitted free with a paying adult?
  9. As far as I'm aware Parsnips old fruit, the NJL is an amateur competition involving three riders a side competing over four heats. Matches normally take place, given the info I have, in the "lighter, drier evenings of summer" and given our weather so far, I very much doubt if any have taken place! I could be wrong though*** so, by the looks of it, you'll have to remain "a bit confused" although perhaps not as confused as you were prior to this and 'Crescent Girl's' postings! *** And was wrong! See Mike Butler's posting below and this week's Speedway Star!
  10. Yours truly will be there tomorrow so, given the fact that it gets underway at noon, an early morning start from here in Kent will be necessary! Who else is going?
  11. Looking forward to being there but pity there'll be no roast pork sarnies and cracking on sale!
  12. With an horrendous weather forecast indicating that heavy rain, already affecting parts of Cornwall and Devon, would be spreading to the IOW in the next few hours and will then continue to the early hours of tomorrow, an early decision has been made to postpone tonight's scheduled NL match at Smallbrook.
  13. Did the Ipswich v Rye House AJDL match take place on May 31st and, if so, results and scorers please anyone? I know Rye were having problems getting a team together because of injuries / work commitments etc., etc so MAY have been postponed?
  14. Can confirm that season tickets are NOT valid for this meeting as it's an F.I.M. meeting as such and not a Lakeside one. Season ticket holders attending can park their vehicles in the normal place. Can further confirm that OUR normal admission prices e.g. Adults £17 apply, programmes on sale separately at £4. Practice is now underway but is NOT open to the public. Now 11.20am and it's a scorcher on the weather front. Car park will be open earlier but turnstiles will not be open until 2.30pm with parade of riders getting underway at 4p.m. First race of 25 scheduled to start at 4.15pm. 15. 8.00am RACEDAY WEATHER CHECK: Have no idea why I'm here at the track at this ridiculous hour of a Sunday morning but am pleased to report it's sunny, warm, not a cloud in the sky so come on down and support the young Brits. Further updates later. Any queries (apart from "is it on cos it's raining here in Outer Mongolia!") then please phone 01708 863443.
  16. This league is labelled as a 'development' league and, as such, is designed to help inexperienced riders gain racing experience on different tracks as they look to progress their careers from the 'training schools' stage to gaining a team place in the NL and/or PL and from there, well that's down to them and their own talent, dedication and other factors that affect all speedway riders. By its very nature it will mainly feature young riders but there's no age limit as such as riders who are not teenagers when they take to the sport and achieve success (e.g. John Louis) might well emerge from the schools. The AJDL is open to UK passport holders with ACU licences only and excludes any rider previously in a PL declared 1 to 7, any rider who has achieved a 5.01 or more end-of-season NL average and any rider who has made 50 or more NL appearances regardless of average.
  17. At junior grasstrack racing's height in Kent there were two junior grasstrack clubs operating. Both produced a stream of young talent that went onto achieve speedway team places and, ultimately, success on the shale. Those two junior clubs were KYMC and KYGTRA.
  18. Sometimes you can only shake your head in sheer disbelief at postings on the BSF!
  19. Latest weather update for Ryde is for any showers to move away within next hour or so and thus NO problems are anticipated with tonight's match going ahead. Start time 7.30pm.
  20. Alas Jayne, I fear that's probably a bit of advice that's far too sensible for some to understand!
  21. Indeed you are correct 'nick' with your explanation concerning the naming young Danno, the latest in line of the racing Veggies, and determined to show his dad Steve how good HE might have been back in his day! Whilst I'm on here, anybody know the whereabouts nowadays of former Hackney junior "Fitzy" namely Mick Fitzpatrick?
  22. Heat details follow 'Khabiboulin' but whilst it may be disappointing for you personally, there are several most valid reasons why the Lakeside Hammers management have opted to stage Anglian Junior Development League matches before Elite League action rather than after it. One major reason, amongst several others, is the fact that track curator Gerald Richter and his band of willing trackstaff volunteers have to take down and store the entire speedway circuit safety fence after every Friday meeting to enable Saturday stockcar practice to go ahead - and that's no five minute task. Now onto Friday's heat details from the Young Hammers 21-14 victory over Mildenhall's Fen Tiger Cubs as promised: 1. Baldock, Graver, Strudwick, M.Pearce (fell). 66.1 (3-3) (3-3) 2. (3 riders only) Laurence, Sheppard, Kingston. Knuckey ns. 65.1 (3-3) (6-6) 3. Laurence, Baldock, Sheppard, Graver. 64.2 (3-3) (9-9) 4. Kingston, M.Pearce, Knuckey, Strudwick (fell). 63.8 (5-1) (14-10) 5. Laurence, Baldock, Graver, M.Pearce (f/rmtd). 64.2 (2-4) (16-14) 6.(re-run) Kingston, Sheppard, Knuckey (ret), Strudwick (fell-ex). 63.8 (5-0) (21-14)
  23. Winning time for heat 4 last night Parsnips old fruit was 69.2 according to a copy of the official programme given to me after the meeting. I missed it too but we both have a really good excuse as it had got rather dampish at that stage hadn't it?!
  24. Why don't you phone him and suggest that's what you think he should do then?
