  1. CANNOT see the new owners of Torun stomaching the sort of wage bill sanctioned by the previous owners. Gollob, Holder, Miedzinski, Sayfutdinov and Ward don't exactly come cheap.Word in Torun last weekend was that one rider's demands for a 400,000 euros signing on fee was declined. Was told that Tomasz Gollob wants to do another season but surely not at Torun where he was not popular (because of his previous Bydgoszcz connections) and his poor scoring for most of the season. Was talk of a return to Gorzow but they fared pretty well without him this season. Will Ward figure in Torun's plans? Both Torun and Poole for that matter will doubtless be sceptical about a rider whose immediate future is still unknown.
  2. PROBABLY too much to hope for but there really is no excuse to be running major meetings, both EL and PL, at this stage of the year. Next year's SGP calendar is quite odd, with some GPs on consecutive weekends, and three or even four week breaks between others. Surely the EL promoters can work around that to ensure there is a proper timetable.
  3. SPEEDWAY in general and the SGP in particular needs the likes of the Pawlicki brothers, Zmarzlik, Kildemand, Fricke, Berntzon and (hopefully) Dudek to one day graduate to the highest level to fill the void that will naturally occur in the not too distant future... and for both Ward and Sayfutdinov to resume their own GP careers
  4. SIX successive finals, three wins, missed one GP, scored zero in another ... quite a mixed bag but KK has come on leaps and bounds this year. Polish Champion, Polish Best Pairs winner, member of Gorzow title winning side.
  5. ONLY know what I've told you ... three riders and Ward isn't one of them.
  6. IF he is available (not banned) then that is quite possible. Perhaps Emil might be tempted for the odd appearance... Finland perhaps?
  7. MY own guess is that if Ward keeps his nose clean next year and is available come October 24 he will get the wild card for Melbourne with a view to a full time position in 2016.
  8. LATER this week the FIM will name three 'replacement' riders who will come into the series in the event of injury to one of the permanent riders... and, no, one of them isn't Darcy Ward.
  9. IN those days Reading ran every week and people got into a routine of buying a magazine. Now, with meetings so infrequent, they get out of the habit.
  10. COVER price is £2.90 ... 56% is £1.62... leaving 44% (£1.27) which goes to the distribution company, freight and the retailer. Margin on sub sales is the same given that we discount the price and pay first class postage. Clear? SUBS account for about 40 per cent of sales, wholesale around 57 per cent and the rest (now very little) track sales.
  11. SYSTEM changed before Daugavpils so nothing to do with Ward
  12. WARD was a wild card in Torun few years back ... so no
  13. WORTH repeating that we only receive 56% (£1.62p) of the cover price whether sold through a newsagent/supermarket or with a subscription
  14. DOUBT it ... just because something has caused some debate amongst a few people on here doesn't necessarily mean that it is shared in the wider speedway world. But, as I have said many, many times, I am no longer involved with the day-to-day compilation of Speedway Star. I don't keep a dog and bark myself, so to speak. Subjects like the one you refer to are much more suited to debate on a forum like this when those participating can instantly bounce their thoughts to and from with others rather than via a weekly magazine that will most probably be out of date by the time it hits the shops. Having spoken over the weekend to Kelvin Tatum, among others, who was at Poole, his view was that the damage to the track on the first and second (?) bends could have been rectified given the time that was available with Sky also showing the meeting from Swindon. However, he did add that some riders, and especially Rory Schlein, were adamant that they would not ride and that it was dangerous. He voiced that view while sitting alongside KL promoter Buster Chapman who did not disagree. KT felt that King's Lynn missed a trick with Poole being without Milik and with a far from fit Janowski but that it was the riders and certainly not the Poole promotion who held sway. With a very healthy crowd in attendance why would the Poole promotion want to postpone if the riders had been prepared to wait while repairs to the track were carried out. A referee also said that once riders steadfastly refuse to ride there is really nothing they can do.
  15. ONCE the 15 permanent riders have been officially named (probably later today) any subsequent replacements will be chosen by the FIM SGP Commission in association with BSI and not promoted from the 2014 Challenge.
  16. WHY? We are only talking about a rider (s) coming in temporarily to replace an injured rider for one or more meetings, as occurred at the end of this season.
  17. SORRY, my mistake. It was Tony but Armando was there in his official capacity as Director of Track Racing.
  18. IT will be the Under 21 TEAM Final not an individual event
  19. BELIEVE it will be once the 15 riders have accepted their invitations to compete in 2015.
