  1. This is bloody superb!. If you werent fired up for the new season you will be when you've seen this. Some great tunes as well!!!! Ladies & Gentlemen & Kids ...ELLIS PERKS! Gimme Some Lovin by Spencer Davis Group ! Might have to add that one to the Scorps 2015 sound track Baz. Perksy might prefer that to my INXS suggestion? Crackin track. Ellis has got Your Needs Covered! I like it ! Quality
  2. What a Brilliant Question ! KENNY ! ...Kenny Carter was without doubt the biggest box office draw British Speedway racer of the "modern era". If there was no news he made it; and when there was news he was it ! He was like a cocky boxer always spoiling for a fight; always pushing the limits and boundaries. But a brilliant and brave rider; just watch his track craft and his bludgeoning determination to win. I don't think there was ever a time when Kenny was out of the race he was always going for it. Well; maybe there was; and it was during the British Semi Final at Odsal three days before the tragic events of 21 May 1986. The media loved him; wanted to be around him and that reflected back in added interest in our sport in general. I am just watching documentaries on Road Racing legends Barry Sheene and Mike Hailwood; Kenny Carter is up there with them an icon of his time and of his sport. My all time hero is Gary Peterson; I would love to bring Gary back; would love to see how good he could have been. So I acknowledge Gary here too. But for the good of British Speedway it has to be KENNY!. But what a great question Tony. All the best Ray Allen Bradford
  3. You'll be OK; your nicely set up. But we got The Pjiper.
  4. In the lyrics ....." Sub Lunna Saltamus" - bloody hell that's just plain meant to be! aarrrgh !!!! Ryan for cripes sake. Still got to get on and get fit; price of being a racer play time or not. Sorry TT; I should know this maybe; but which team do you wish he had signed for?
  5. Sound Track for the Scorpions 2015; we need an extra tune! You might like this one; for our New Flying Dutchman: ABBA - The Pjiper! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFrGTtZKA_I Very Nordic ! Enjoy.
  6. T; you know what I think your spot on; he does say that; listened to him back again and he does emphasise the Go. He was inferring "look when you go (wherever this maybe) take your God with you; don't force it/him on me or us. Never a truer word; and if Dave Allen was here today he would be cutting through all the religious fanaticism rammed in our faces everyday.
  7. Gutted for Ryan; but we need to protect our prize asset and bringing him back too soon; from what sounds a serious injury could hurt us in the long run. Very pleased that Alex Davies looks to be over the line; because he can be a big rider for the Scorpions this year in my view. But Rob's a magician pulling this rabbit out the bag at the last minute. Theo Pjiper was Glasgow's No1 last season (7.09 CMA). He appeared to come into form at the back end of the season. Posting good returns at Newcastle, Edinburgh, P'Boro, Berwick; infact decent on most tracks; but 4 at Scunny early 2014. We'll work on that. Thing is he is a vastly experienced rider at this level; knows the tracks and the set ups and he can be a valuable addition. So well done to the Management for acting in the best interests of everyone. Ryan is too valuable to us to run the risk of him riding while unfit; messing his average up and then the authorities making out that he doesn't meet "criteria". No; this is a common sense move by the Management and a good call. Then we see how things go with Ryan's injury and come June we may have a decision to make. But welcome Theo to the EWR; still very much an exciting 1-7 and very much looking forward to the season that is coming right around the corner up ahead! Cheers.
  8. How(e)-pardon the slip...are we doing with Visas anyone ? Tapes Up! In 3 Weeks, See Poole's failed to get past Jihadi Junction.
  9. T- Agreed! on everything but the Aussie/US bit; you will never ever get me to say NO to the great guys who entertain and have entertained me over 40years. For me its "open an door" to anyone who wants to slide sideways on a speedway bike. I'm a Speedway Fundamentalist that's my problem.
  10. tmc; thank you for that; my pleasure; and a really enjoyable read front to back, the Bob Kilby and Brian Foote missives also great reads. Thanks Backtrack.
  11. What centuary am I in? Same centuary that celebrated the 2014 Commonwealth Games or was that just Scotch Mist? Religion am I intolerant,Sure as hell am if it involves wacko cults blowing folk up; crashing planes into buildings; public beheadings;and slaughtering a British soldier in public on Woolwich High St. Yeah I am pretty intolerant of that sort of Religion. Dave Allen always put Religion in the right context and I am with him on it. May your God go with you. Back to the Aussies/Yanks personally dont class them as immigrants theyre us! I have relatives in US never set foot in the UK; but our blood line should trump any other foreigner trying to sneak through Jihadi central. Why you might not get that God only knows.
  12. Come off it Commonwealth Speedway riders can never be termed "illegals" at any level. The rights of a Speedway rider arriving here to risk his life, entertain us, further the sport and himself, earn his living, pay taxes and obey the law trumps the swathes of scumbag spongers, criminal, terroist linked religious fanatics being waved thru at jihadi central aka UK Borders.
  13. Am I correct that there was a meeting a couple of days back. Wondered if anyone heard what came out of it?. Gone a bit quiet on here lately. Still the seasons just around the corner.
  14. SCB; sincerely like the "need to stop blowing things out of proportion" bit; sure like me all you want is to get back to the racing with EVERYONE we are looking forward to seeing back here and ON TRACK!
  15. Apologies if anyone had already mentioned this; I have not trawled through the posts for it. An extremely interesting; honest and revealing interview with former Middlesborough team boss Tony Coupland in this issue. Amongst many little insights; he talks about the demise of the sport and who might have some responsibility for that. Despite the undoubted promotional successes and talents of the Late Ian Thomas. Coupland thinks that Thomas shares some of the blame. He recounts how in 1970 he attended an Open Meeting at Bradford (this was my first ever meeting by co-incidence - The Northern Riders Championship) and Thomas was trying to sign up riders for his new Workington Division 2 venture. Thomas apparently was throwing money and bikes at riders; and this Coupland contends started the rot in speedway. Up to that point Riders had been pretty much "under the control" of Speedway officialdom. Suddenly it seemed like the Riders had the whip hand and could almost name their price. Thomas was a pioneer of a "new age" of promoting and arrived on the scene at a time when speedway promoting was less the domain of the sports former riders/ long established officials and shifting into the hands of enthusiastic sponsors; businessmen and fans. Looking at the latter "model for promoting" it may be easy to have seen where all this might lead?. Riders became the power and could and did demand more; the enthusiasts eager to court their favourite club/riders paid with bucks and bikes. A sport built on strict governance; remember the now seemingly draconian "rider control" - the way riders were basically sent around the country to balance team strengths. Was starting to be run by the enthusiasts themselves and because it was suddenly "their business". So they made the rules to suit their business and overtime lost sight of the bigger picture. Speedway was starting to drift to the margins of professional sport and so we are where we are. Read Coupland in Back track. As I say a very interesting and telling insight into the decline of our sport in my view.
  16. Is it me or is there an anti Aussie agend simmering here? Look Anzacs & Yanks have been the staple of British Speedway down the years just think for minute about the bigger picture. The real reason some Brits get overlooked is because promoters dont rate them as high. It has been that way down the decades; just consider all the Aussue,NZ and USA legends that you would never have graced our sport if we had been haggling over a bloody entry Visa. It really doesnt bear thinking about the state Speedway might have been in without them and will be if we dont get this sorted.
  17. I think you just made my point perfectly cannot see anyone on your attempt at a list man for man better than those under threat. If thats it Speedways in big trouble this season. Come on Benji ? Halsey ? Wilson v Douglas! Holder! Masters yer having a laugh or never see these guys race.
  18. Well not so hard that would prevent my niece (now in a third yr) working in what amounts to a BUPA call centre and my colleagues son bumming around farm to farm picking fruit for over a year! I agree I thought you needed profession. That cafe Jiahdi how the hell were he in Oz? As for 22 Aussie riders doing 22 Brits out of work alright then list me the 22 riders man for man who have equal ability to those under threat. No restoring to Bent Handlebar out the EU-seless either. You cannot do it because they are not there not in those numbers. British Speedway needs these riders without them it devalues a struggling sport further still. If the admin has been poorly supervised by the promoters then they have to take some blame. But is it so unsurmountable to put right. It affects all of the business of Speedway. For me this admin needs to be handled by a supervisory body and removed from individual promoters.
  19. You know what can I be really honest. I am sick of all this; I want to watch Professional Speedway Riders (no matter where they come from) on the race track a highly skilled occupation that ONLY A MINUTE NUMBER OF PEOPLE in the entire world can perfect to the required standard. Try it if you don't believe me; its not something anyone can just turn up and do. This is ruining it for me and everyone in Speedway; and not least people like Rob who's business it is. I think this does have serious implications for the Business of Scunthorpe Speedway. A lot of money; time and consideration has been invested in Ryan Douglas who (if here) will be one of THE break out riders in World Speedway in 2015. We cannot just sideline such a valuable club asset like this and then spend more money bringing in an EU based rider who WILL COST US a whole lot more. Its just plain crazy. We cannot just go out and sign a couple of up and coming Brits and bang them in. Not with standing their lack of ability alongside Ryan and Alex; I would contend that such a practice is actually dangerous. These idiots at the UKVI know nothing about Speedway; they probably think its cycle speedway (no disrespect) or like riding out on a trail bike. Such is the impact on the Business; that I would not blame Rob & Management if they just said "sod it" and pulled the team out of the Premier League rather than field a "make shift" team in 2015 and the season already effectively over for us before it started. All this Visa nonsense going on when we are all just looking forward to an exciting Scorpions team and getting back to the Speedway in a few weeks. Aaaaaargh!!!
  20. Way I read it some on here dont give a hoot for the Aussies being here or not?. Look guys this is BAD news for Speedway here we just dont have the riders to replace them and it devalues the whole thing in my opinion. Theres no one we can bring in at Scunny that will adequately replace Ryan Douglas for whom 2015 is a breakout season. Not interested in tailenders like Bent Handlebar only here because he's from the EU-seless!. Likes of Ryan and Alex D are real riders and here for the full season.
  21. Are them dim wits on the UKVI Border control "sleep eazy" looking at the code for Visa's = IS for International Speedway rider - "G'day welcome to the UK don't let me delay you a moment longer; what a fine profession Speedway is Sir" Have a great summer. And getting it mixed up with IS = Warning!!!!! Islamic State UK based terrorist - see the door marked EXIT!.
  22. Plainly ridiculous Dooley Man must nigh on be classed permanent UK resident! he's been riding over here for a least a decade surely. What the hell does he need to prove?. Also his average 6.93 so its not 7.00. For 0.07 of point and he's shown the door for Christ's sake. This is just becoming nasty.
