I was very fortunate to be friends with a number of people that allowed me unlimited access into the pits at Lynn. When Lee was an interval attraction,. my friendship with Andy Lee opened the door for a connection with Michael that lasted many years. He was an immense talent that was recognised by the whole speedway world. Seasoned riders stood in awe as he powered round during them intervals equal to or faster than the times actually recorded during the proceeding match. No it was no surprise when he beat Wilson in that first meeting. and Ray took it in good heart. Such was the talk about Lee and them interval rides at that time , it created so much interest that world stars, namely, Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger travelled purposely to Kings Lynn solely to watch him ride. Later they remarked that Michael was a good a 15yr old as they had ever seen, anywhere..... Such praise from established Stars....
-
Yeah Me too. Them years I went to most meetings where Lee was riding.
-
Looking back through my program notes, he beat him 3 times, The first was from the gate, in heat 6; then in heat 10 Wilson made the gate , but on the second lap Lee cut back to the inside to pass driving out of second bend. Lee then won the second half final with Betts second Wilson third... Track started very wet but dried out as the meeting went....

Good Friday, 28th March 1975 was the start of something very Special. 43 yrs ago was when Michael Lee made his debut for the Stars against Leicester Lions. The weather was just as bad then as it is now, as it snowed that morning.... but the meeting still went ahead.... Lynn won 46 -32. God it makes one feel old....

You cant blame Premiership clubs for looking after their own domain, Its just another example that shows the sport should be governed by an independent body.. No way should the second division be able to dictate what happens to the top division in any sport.. Them Race suites sure look the part, and I agree I'm pleased they resemble the old Blue colour.. Just hope they can keep them nice clean over the weekend ... by making the gate keeping in front.

When I read all this stuff about Coventry, Kildemand; Matt Ford and the BSPA . it seems we have gone back in time when this topic was all the rage. Seems to me, in those 7/8 yrs nothing much has changed. Someone telling lies, someone being deceptive, someone bending the rules... I wonder who that could be ???>

Leicester vs Somerset Monday 26th March Challenge
g13webb replied to SomersetBlue's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
They use to refer to 'Happiness = 40-38' that said the score last night says it must have been a decent meeting, one that would entice a few fans back . and that has to be good.. -
I can assure you I am neither Green or Jealous of anything you may have . This was the typical response I had expected. My love for speedway stretches back way beyond 50 yrs I have been to many matches involving other teams so the fact Lynn is my nearest club is not even relevant. My love is for the sport and not just one club. As in life I believe in right and wrong, doing things the correct way . Yes, Speedway is a competition, where the results should be governed by what happens on the track, and not by some Wildboy who bends the rules to suit . Like you say, there's no other way to look at it. .....

It has become quite obvious that to most of us, it is you who believe what you hear, after you preach it so many times. In any sport, equality is so important, without that equality you have to question the integrity of that sport. Every other Promoter tries to run their team to the rules as they were intended, not looking at ways to deceive the intention of them rules.. I have often moaned at the BSPA for allowing people like Ford to ride roughshod over our sport, but it is wrong that they have be on the lookout for these kind of people who are only interested in pulling the wool over genuine member’s eyes. The competition of this sport should be governed by the racing of bikes on the track, not by the person who sees a loophole and bends the rules the most. You say ‘other promoters should be like Ford and the sport would be far better’, but in truth Ford has been the biggest disease our sport has ever known. The sport has done well to battle his onslaught of underhanded deception for as long as it has. Poole fans may think they are the cream of the crop, but the truth of the matter is they are nothing more than sour milk. Fans are leaving by their droves because they are fed up to their teeth with how the sport is run. If you are allowed to bend, cheat or deceive them rules to prosper than any rewards are worthless. I‘m so pleased, that the majority of the promoters uses the rules how they were intended, and any success was achieved doing it the right way….

Never a truer word spoken. A post, no doubt, that reflects the total feelings of all the supporters , bar Poole. It wouldn't surprise me if Matt Ford was involved with the Aussie cricket team
-
Come on David, that far too simple. How can we infiltrate loop holes in that. Surely, even you must appreciated the necessity for loopholes in the rules......
-
Do you expect us to believe in somebody who changes their mind at the drop of a hat. Surely, if you were of sound mind, you would understand the sport is fed up to its teeth with the manipulation of the rules, constantly changed to suit the person who is asking the questions . If you said the Sea was wet, I would have to dip my hand in first, before I would believe any thing you said....
-
I agree with you to a point that most teams are fairly equal, but please don't include Poole in that statement as they are on a different level. Woryna is so talented only a blind man would fail to see his quality. Without doubt a top rider destined for heat leader status. Within months of the start, Poole could have Holder and Sundstrom as 2nd strings. Just imagine the strength of that side. Because of the BSPA's dereliction of proper averages , this Poole team strength is probably 6/7 points stronger than any of the rest. This could have been an increditable season, where all teams fancied their chances. But because of the numpties at the BSPA burying theirs heads, this can only be a one horse race......

Charity Shield 2nd leg 22/03/18 Swindon - Belle Vue
g13webb replied to A ORLOV's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Congratulation to Swindon on winning the first trophy. I got that all wrong in thinking BV would win. Hope the Pole is OK and not badly hurt... Injuries is the last thing any team wants this early in the season..... -
When I go to Anfield, nobody sings 'you'll never walk alone' louder than I. With 50,000 fans singing, it makes my hair stand on end, and I'm only a supporter. Imagine what that must do for the players.... I'm all for verbal chorus for the fans to cheer. But surely in this day and age we could have something more modern than that new anthem . I'd rather we went back to 1.4.2.4 who the hell R we 4. we use to sing at the Firs 50 odd years ago.....

This league will never be taken seriously while they have so many discrepancies within the rules. Every month it rises its head, yet the officials cant see the damage it does......

Charity Shield 2nd leg 22/03/18 Swindon - Belle Vue
g13webb replied to A ORLOV's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I know its early season, but feel Belle Vue will be too strong for Swindon.. I thought Swindon got out of jail losing by only 6 pts in the first leg,. I don't see much difference between the heatleaders, or the reserves, but feel BV have the edge in the middle order. Can see this finishing close, with that 6points lead being decisive.... -
They say the best ideals are the simple ones. so straight forward and there can be no arguments....
-
Think you are passing the buck here, A good Team Manager would have been on the ball ensuring his team were aware of any new rule changes... I for one don't expect the riders to know all the rules, but a Team Manager should. As for the necessity of the new gardening rule is beyond me. What's the point of it and what does it prove?? Small riders like KB are at a big disadvantage...... would have thought there was far more issues to be sorted than whether the leg is across the bike when getting ready to start.
-
Thank you for that, I wasn't aware they had posted a summary. I was aware of the full Regs were available from SCB, and that the changes were in bold , but that was the point of my post having to troll through pages and pages of regs just to see the few changes that had been made
-
Would it have been too much trouble for the BSPA to have posted a list of the amended rules, or where this years rule differ from last year. It would save on all the confusion and bring everybody up to date. After all, we are fans of the same sport and batting on the same pitch......
-
You do as you so wish, We are all entitled to an opinion , whether you approve it or not.........
-
Although the club was well represented, I heard no mention of the new anthem. .................. Thankfully...
-
Personally I not that fussy. but thinking on a home attraction, someone like Terry Betts would go down a storm, Michael Lee must have loads of tales to tell. How about Cyril Crane ? I'm sure there are load with tales to tell.... Of the sport of Speedway, I'm sure any top stars could fill the club house for a nights entertainment. Its a long time from Sept to March but having 2/3 of these throughout the winter months would be an ideal way of keeping that connection going .....

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening with Pearson, Tatum and Jason Doyle. Even though I appreciate what he has achieved, ever since he got our meeting stopped when riding for Leicester I had a bias opinion of him . But listening to him last Friday, telling us he views and hardship I was impressed at getting the information from the horses mouth. I was not aware of the severity of his accident back in 2016 where he was so close to death and survived only by the experts on hand to keep him breathing . I have often wondered why there couldn't be more nights like these getting former riders to talk about their careers . Sure was an enjoyable night.....
