Belle Vue v King's Lynn 26/08/19g13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League If we still had Niels and Robert as heat leaders and MPT at reserve I would be much more confident of getting a point or two, but as it is, we only have riders who do well at home, but don't travel too good. A fit Robert is a massive miss and whoever we use in that position will struggle to match his points. I would expect Porsing to score more than he has of late with BV's vast open spaces.. He should be more at home with those tracks he rides abroad. Ever the optimist, I still cant see us keeping it close enough to be in with at shout at the business end of the meeting. Them big heats at the end are the ones that matter, but to expect the likes of Riss and Jorgensen to beat home specialists like Bjerre and Fricke is a big ask....

Real name (first name only if you wish) : 'Webby' - Age:- 71 - Location:- Wisbech - What did you do for a living:- Project Engineer - Club you support:- Kings Lynn Stars - what got you into speedway:- From an early age I was always brought up going to Scrambles and Grass Track meetings in East Anglia, before Dad ventured to the Fir's in Norwich to see Ove Fundin. Once we exampled that excitement it became our regular jaunt on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, Norwich closed and the connection was lost, until Cyril Crane and Maury Littlechild brought the sport to Kings Lynn. From 1965 I have supported them every year since... - best speedway moment:- This is difficult to pick just one moment as there have been so many, too many to mention. Sweden World final in 1980, and the British final in 77 were both very special, but one single night I will always remember with such pleasure was going to Halifax with Michael Lee to contest his Golden Helmut against Home favourite Kenny Carter. The home fans were stunned into silence as Lee walloped Carter by an amazing distance, smashing the lap record in each of them two rides... A Wonderful night against all the odds.. - worst speedway moment: - Again there are many, usually associated with fatalities .. I also feel for riders like Gundersen and Darcy Ward who suffered horrendous accidents, but they were fortunate in that they still have a life to live, even if it is someway from a dream existence. Riders like Rico didn't get that choice... - Favourite speedway rider and why:- There have been many, but as one gets older, one appreciates the bigger picture than one specific rider. The riders who appeal to me are those give their all, appreciating the importance of the fans and the sport. They are immaculately turned out, and have equipment that enabling them to perform at their highest level. There are many who fit that bill and that what make them more appealing... - most disliked speedway rider and why: - Rider who turn up and ride, hold their hand out and go. They must appreciate this sport works both way. they must give as well as take... - what do you enjoy other than speedway:- Madly addicted to all forms of Motor sports, Moto GP; Formula1; Motor-Cross, Superbikes, the faster it goes the more interest it generates. Although happily retired I find I am still too busy. Enjoy doing computer work, CAD and Calculations take up more time than I would like. Music is always playing, and when I want to escape I retire to a wonderful workshop kitted out with everything one would need... - social media links (if you wish to connect with other members).:- Occasionally venture on twitter but not very often... Cheers...

King's Lynn v Belle Vue 22/8/19g13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Probably being too optimistic but I can see another easy win for the Stars. Not just for the impressive form at home of late, but also the track will be extra grippy, knee deep in places, giving the Stars team a big advantage. Like Wolves recently, Belle Vue will struggle all night to get dialled in. By the time the track slickened off the score will be a forgone conclusion.. I'm quietly confident we can win our remaining home matches, but that alone will not be enough to reach those Play/offs. We have to secure some points away from home, failing that we may as well forget it...…...

Belle Vue v Wolverhampton 19/8/2019g13webb replied to craigACE's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League This result sure makes a massive difference to the fight for P/O places. I cant imagine Wolves went with much optimism of getting any change from their trip, and BV no doubt thought another 3 points in the bag. Just goes to show luck can play a pivotal roll . When these points are added to their league totals, it will elevate Wolves in their fight for those final 4 places... No doubt BV's next match with a full team, will be a totally different ball game...

King's Lynn v Peterborugh 19/08/2019g13webb replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Not the best of meetings, but it should be noted the Panthers really fought hard. It was only at the latter end of the meeting when all the points became secure... Cant believe so many hold ups through the night.. I was actually sitting in the Royal Box, watching the Poole / Swindon Heat 15 on my phone during the interval. The fact they both started at the same time make you realise how drawn out these meeting are becoming..... Even, Belle Vue with half a team, using multiple use of R/R, was finished 20 min before we did...

King's Lynn v Peterborugh 19/08/2019g13webb replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Once upon a time this would have been a meeting high on everybody's agenda, but the way that this season has gone, this will be another one sided, forgone conclusion. Riders missing, guests aplenty, grippy track, can't say I'm that enthused by tonight meeting. Such is the mug I am, instead of staying in and watching Swindon V Poole, I'm pressing the record button so I can continue with my usual support of this long lasting love affair. Being realistic though, it's getting harder to justify the cost or the effort...

After watching them at Lynn the previous week, it came as no surprise that the Witches lost again to a in-form Swindon side. A team led by two strong heat leaders will always be in contention. I thought it might be possible to run them close, but never imagined Ipswich to get walloped like they did.. It appears now that Swindon are favourites for that 4th Play-off place. Although the Witches were once thought as safe, certainties to qualify , it has now become squeaky bum time. They need to recapture that early season form quickly or else they could be drawn into the a battle they wouldn't relish.....

King's Lynn v Wolves 15/08/2019g13webb replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Porsing is not a bad rider. His previous scores at Lynn , and those seen abroad proves that. His 2 biggest problems are his gatting and grippy tracks, and unfortunately those are the main attributes required when racing for Lynn..... Probably, if the track was slicker, we would see a much improved performance from him... Hopefully he can prove his worth when we race on away tracks...

Kings Lynn stars v Ipswich witches 5th Augg13webb replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League What you are saying, is if you don't post an opinion before the event than you're entitled to have one , What Rubbish. Probably you judge too many people by your own standard. My opinion wouldn't change weather it be given before the event or after. When I'm wrong I say I'm wrong, I would never change what I thought just for the benefit of people like you.....

Kings Lynn stars v Ipswich witches 5th Augg13webb replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Unlike a lot on hear I never saw this as anything else than a home win. R/R was the obvious choice for Lambert when we have capable riders taking his rides.. The grippy track is not to everyone liking and guests could have struggled. Expecting Lynn to win, but thought the Witches would put up a bigger fight than they did. There is no excuse for coming last 12 out of the 15 races . Apart from Danny King and a few glimpses of Bomber, the rest were poor. How they have been up at the top of the league for the whole season is a massive surprise when they perform like that. Besides being one sided, this wasn't a bad meeting, with Lynn showing more fight and determination than usual. The track was still too grippy. Although there were some overtaking. Any thoughts Ipswich may have had before the start of putting on a show, went soon as when the racing started. I felt they were beaten by the track as much as they were by the opposition.. If Ipswich want to figure prominently in the Play-offs they need to strengthen their squad... Their reserves were woeful...

I for one would welcome a single league, with riders attached to only one team. Looking back as I often do , part of the enjoyment was the riders formed the backbone and strength of each team. Although the riders knew each other well, they would never be team mates within the team structure, and were looked upon as the enemy. My take these days is because the riders ride for so many teams they have a job to know who their own supporters are... But we mustn't think changing to one league would solve our all our problems, it would be just the start. We need to run British Speedway as it's own entity . Race on nights that suit each club and not be bothered about clashes with other countries or competitions. We want tracks that are uniformly prepared so to ensure decent racing. We want new rules to excite the racing and not be a hindrance or a time factor. No going back to the pits when the ref decides to call them back. So what if someone anticipated the gate. if a riders does wrong, let the race continue and exclude at the finish. They'll soon get use to the rules and the meeting would flow much better... I wouldn't stop the top riders from racing, but they race at our convenience not just on a night that suits their schedule... WE need to start again from the beginning to grow into a sporting occasion that people want to watch, and not live on past laurels...

If this means that Robert could miss the next 2/3 months of the season, then it would be more sensible to take the rest of the year off for a complete rest and make a fresh start next year...
-
Probably using the wrong wording, What I was trying to say , If Lambert don't allow the injury to fully repair it could hinder his process for years to come...
-
Picking up on what Woffy said about the length of time Robert needs to fully recover , I wouldn't surprise me to see him take a long lay off . It would be pointless to rush back when he has a long time ahead of him to race. If this is not done properly, he could be handicapped for years.... Woffy was even questioning his readiness for the British GP at Cardiff. So bearing in mind the amount of time Woffy has already missed plus the 2 months before the BGP, This injury could be the last we see of Robert this year....
-
I think you're missing the most important part. I think the majority of riders in the Premiership are of similar quality, but the difference being the tracks they are ask to race on. It was wonderful last night to see exciting races from many of the riders, but that can only be achieved when the track is prepared in the proper way. Surely this should be a wake call to the promoters of all our clubs, but I bet it isn't. Congratulation to Charles Wright, a most deserved winner on the night. Especially after the Ref made that monumental error excluding him. Apart from that he was only beaten once all-night.

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League My take of the proceeding was there was too much grip, and it was only when the track slicken off did we see any reference of actual racing when both MPT and Tungate proved it was possible to come from the back. Its not about riders adapting to RIDE the grippy tracks that matter, it their ability to RACE on them and that has proved more difficult . Yes, Ty Proctor done well, but his success came from his gating. He knew once he had hit the front the job was done because nobody would go be. And that's the main issue. It appears since that fated match against Poole when Holder and Batch did a runner, some 2 years ago, the management has learnt nothing....The track hasn't changed one bit.. I don't blame the riders, why should they have to take extra risks to race a grippy track.. . This was once a track every rider wanted to race on, sadly, not anymore. Ivan Mauger once wrote this track was equal to any in the country and he always looked forward to riding here. I wonder what he would have thought of it today...….

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League There were no positives, Points are of no importance if the perception of the whole night was poor. All it will have done is question the sanity of us fans who turned up and paid to watch .

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League You speak a lot of sense, If it was just about the money I would have packed up long ago. It's the occasion, the moment, the time when I can escape the misses and drift back into nostalgia. There are many reasons why I still go. but keeping contact with many friends is the prime cause. Plus, I would hate to think there was a fantastic meeting and it was on one of the days when I didn't bother to go

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League On paper I think Lynn appear to have the upper hand and could achieve a comfortable win, . . But local derbies don't work out that way. No doubt some riders will perform better than usual, and others will have a bad night, so no doubt the scores will be much closer than one imagines. One thing we do know is the track will be grippy and the processional races will only satisfy a few die-hard supporters. The purist upon us will only have their memories of when derby matches at Lynn were the real McCoy .

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Even He would have difficulties riding the track like he once did. Going back to that first meeting in '65 , when Bettsy won, the track then offered more overtaking than it does today....

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League A day, where do you get that from? The base is already there. You only have to scrape the top off and apply the proper stuff. Then it just a matter of spreading it out and grading it. Two years ago, when the Danish riders used the AFA for official practice day. Buster and his posse completely removed the sodden crap on the track and re-laid a completely new surface. in just over the hour.. proving it wouldn't take as long as you think…... That day there were 26 riders going at it all day and the track was perfect.

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League I actually said close racing. it was far better than that I've seen at the AFA recently. There were quite a few good races that were closely fought. plus the fans were were happy and that created a good atmosphere... something badly missing from todays meetings.... I have some fantastic memories of wonderful races. when we use to get there early, just to have somewhere to park. How times have changed.. Now instead of thousands on the gate, we only get hundreds. Where once we watched 20 to 22 races now its only 15 and they are dragged out to last the same amount of time.. Once the riders use to come in the bars for a drink and a chat, now they cant get away quick enough. There's so many changes and not many of them are pluses. As for the costs I hate to think. I once did a roll-call on the amount of money I spent on fags. 20 fags a day for 40 years equates to around £100k wasted in todays money. Fortunately they were easier to give up than the speedway drug as I packed up 10 years ago.. I often as I've threatened to pack up going to speedway, so far I haven't managed it.

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League Some people on here will say I'm always moaning, but I walk about with my eyes open and see a lot of good in other tracks. I can accept the importance of Stock-car racing at the AFA , but I don't see why we have to suffer the crap surface for Speedway. Having witness Buster and his party turn a saturated, flooded track into a proper race track in an hour, I fail to see why it cant be achieved for each of our 12 home meetings. How many SC meeting are held each year ?? I'm sure this is achievable. With the full complement of Buster machinery, I'm sure it would be possible to use the proper shale without too many problems. From a laymen who pays and witnesses the gradual decline of fans, I sit and watch fellow supporters and hear their moans. Nobody is happy with the spectacle that is dished up regularly, and I wonder how much longer these figures will continue to fall before it is deemed as none viable. Nobody seem to care what the fans think. instead of looking at ways to cut the costs, why not think of ways to make it more exciting... and appealing to the many who don't go any more... I went to Leicester recently and thoroughly enjoyed the night out. Considering it is relatively new, they put on a real good show. there were no holdups, racing was much closer than we get here. the shale was a pleasant reddish colour that gave an wonderful contrast instead of that black rubbish we use. the racing lines offered more chance to overtaking, not all races were won from the gate.. No, they didn't have a Robert Lambert, that was the only thing missing. But it was a cheaper and more enjoyable night out. At nights like this, it really stands out how far the Kings Lynn speedway has fallen....

King's Lynn vs Peterborough. Thursday July 25thg13webb replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League I would imagine Peterborough already have HA place covered. With this fix race night idea, there will always be problems when looking for guests. Its Part and Parcel that goes with it. When considering the fitness and strains of a lot of our riders, surely it would be far beneficial to prepare a slick track when it requires less effort to perform. Making them perform on a grippy track does them no favours what so ever. PS. Of all the Kings Lynn riders ( past & present) who performed in yesterday's SON , must say how impressed I was with Huckenbeck. Since leaving the Stars he has progressed into a really talented and competitive rider.
