  1. Don't know whether I'm pleased or not that the season has finished, again pot-less as usual. So annoying when teams like Poole turn up and show us how it should be done. Each and everyone of their riders were dialled in and showed how much it mattered, what a pity we cant say that about out team.. Over the season we have witness some good performances but the dedication can always be questioned. Yeah, I accept we had injuries, but the team we put out tonight was woeful . I get fed up watching riders going through the motions. I don't mind losing, but lets lose with pride......
  2. Sidney, how are you? see your team are doing well this year, and coming good at the right time. If its worth anything, my money's on your lot for the final. My liking of Buster started to wane when he took over the chairmanship of the league. Since then, his treatment to the riders and the fans have been of utter contempt. I can understand why he purchase 3 teams this year, be it as a last resort to keep the league going, but that also singled the end of any chances the Stars had of being run successful this year. Reliable as ever, I've still been to most meetings this year but it's not pretty. For 50 odd years I had always dreamed of seeing the Stars win that cavorted trophy, but after much consideration I have now accepted the inevitability that it will never happen. I plan to cattail my regular visits to saddlebow road at the send of the season. All the best to Mark, hope it works out OK...…
  3. Probably he was the easiest to arrange and no doubt he was the definitely the cheapest.
  4. To be perfectly frank, I don't think The Stars have a cat's chance in hell of getting anything tonight. If Swindon cant beat a seriously understrength team , then they don't deserve to win the league.. We certainly seem to have our fair share of bad luck. I ain't forgotten last year yet....
  5. Contrary to what a lot of posters think, there were plenty of talented riders back in yesteryear…... Joe Owen topped the Averages more years than I dare to remember...
  6. Wish you would get up to date before these comments. There was a photo on the net showing Bjerre coming adrift last night and hurting his back. Apparently he's withdrawn form the BV meeting through injury... Somewhat more believable than Lamberts excuse..
  7. I remember a meeting at Boston early 1975 against league leaders Newcastle. Led by the Owen boys, they were a formidable outfit. Boston were doing Ok but were not of that standard. The meeting was always close, one team leading then the other, never more than a few points in it. It all boiled down to the final heat with Boston holding a 2 point lead, Lee missed the start and forced out on the first bend. Joe and Tom Owen were team riding keeping Price at bay. Start of lap 3 Lee moves past Price into 3rd, the crowd sensing something special was about to happen. Into the last lap Lee goes out wide on the 1st &2nd bends, down the back straight he uses all his speed to go round both the Newcastle riders to win an unbelievable race. And to think this was only his 3 competitive meeting, at an age of 16 yrs 3 months. Truly amazing talent for someone so young...
  8. I made a point to never answer to posters who are blinded in seeing the true picture. Sarcasm and wit don't go down very well either. but for you I make an exception. I probably did drool over Michael Lee, but it never stopped me seeing the real picture. Indeed I probably knew more about Lee than any other rider. But it doesn't make it right to come up with excuses when it suits, regardless whether the meeting is important or not. I am sure there are enough airports in Europe to find a way to get to Poole had he had wanted too. Sad thing about tonight he is letting so many people down, people who rave about him and whose who were hopeful of seeing him for the first time tonight. Unfortunately the sport can ill afford this sort of behaviour.
  9. And you wonder why the fans don't go anymore. Its just another nail...…. Lambert wont need to worry next year, they're wont be any speedway to for him to ride...….
  10. Lets think about this, As far as Lynn are concerned this is a dead rubber, a meeting of little importance. Now that we have missed out on the PO there is little or no interest even to the die hard fans. We are struggling to assembly a fit team, one that would inspire confidence of the outcome. There is a meeting on the telly where the sports fans can watch in the warmth of their own home, The weather here is not that good. Bearing in mind all these things, and the numbers required for a break even point when running a meeting, then surely the most sensible option would be to call it off... Just a shame they aren't allow to let Pool have the points...
  11. What a mockery, speedway has become. You cant help feeling, the media is correct, when they refer this as a 'Micky Mouse' sport . Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...
  12. I believe you have said that before. You wouldn't make a very good promotions man, always telling people to stop at home. I take a more pro-active approach and ask the question, as to why the fans don't go anymore. When asking them to support a team, with the hope of being successful, but in truth, when we are fielding riders who are not mentally fit, we have little chance of that....
  13. If Cookie is suffering as you say he needs to get help, and he wont get that racing 60 MPH on a bikes with no brakes. A person's Mental state is a serious issue and has to be treated seriously . It is not something you switch On and Off But why should we, the fans, be expected to cough up a large sum of admission to watch someone who is not fit for the purpose..
  14. Its not the first time that our team has been let down by substandard performances on the road. It appears that all riders must share the responsibility of failing to win a single match this year... Usually one or two will do well , but that is never enough. This result is not much of a surprise, what I pity it wasn't pick it up early in the season when it could have been addressed , and for us to have achieved one of those PO places... Again, also rans....
  15. Its been replayed 4 times already.. Christ ! , how many more times….
  16. I would've thought this would have been an ideal match to be televised. with the result meaning so much to both teams. Probably, if either of the them were called Poole, then this match would still be on the big screen. I lost count of the times I've travelled to Monmore hoping to see a win, when we had much better teams than we do now, and have always lost. I don't see this being any different. To win away, all the riders must be dialled in and do their bit and so far this year, that hasn't happened. Unfortunately I cant is changing tonight. Will be surprised if we get within 10....
  17. Well of course you are. If that's the only thing you're fed up with then you must lead a sad life.....
  18. Yet again , It appears these sub-standard performances are readily accepted without too much concern. Like saying 'Don't worry lads there's always next year' 55 years of waiting and still no top prize. Surely the fans deserve better than this..... The apologies don't mean much anymore after this length of time... Its little wonder, many fans have got fed up waiting ……... Now having just read, that NKI has signed for the witches, show me and everyone else the contempt that Buster shows for us Stars fans. Talk about kicking when you're down. NKI has always been a Lynn Rider, greater than any that are currently riding, Signing him to ride for their arch rival is betrayal of the highest order...
  19. We have only won 1 race our of 10 so far. Not looking good I'm afraid …...
  20. Was hoping Robert's return would be more explosive than his results show. A very disappointing points tally. I have this feeling that his return was governed by the specific qualification meeting rather than his actual health. Although the Stars are desperate for him to return, probably be best for him to have an extended break and come back fighting fit and rearing to go. I don't expect he's fit enough for the rigours of a full return time, best let him write this year off as a learning curve.....
  21. With a fit Robert Lambert, each match we ride now is a whole new ball game. We are desperate for away points, and of the three that we left at , BV, Poole and Wolves this will be our best opportunity of getting some, but it wont be easy, the whole team needs to be dialled in. and we need all the LUCK we can muster. I think we are also capable of picking up an away point at the other two, but expecting more than that would be asking for a bit much....
  22. The sport today is so different from that of the past. Back then the riders were involved with the team as much as the fans. There were more teams in our leagues and less riding abroad. Questing was used but for the few instead of the many we see nowadays... Today the riders are more like mercenaries earning a quick buck without a thought for the implications it might create. Even the most loyal will ride for the opposition if the chance arose... Even helping your arch rival to gain the points at your expense is not a consideration. It's best not to compare the past with the present. Yes, I understand the gigantic expense that riders must find, and those extra meetings are probably a godsend to the riders... But it does nothing for creating a team bond between Fans Riders and Promoters. A connection today, that is so obviously missing. We talk about the reasons why the fan base is perpetually dwindling, yet here we have a brilliant example why, but as usual nothing will change....
  23. At last, one of the better meetings that was enjoyed.... The biggest surprise of the night was that the Stars reach their interval first, 2 races quicker than the other two meetings. Slicker track, Better racing, No tractors. I had to question myself, was this really AFA or was I dreaming. Keep it up, it's about time we got it right....
  24. When everybody were clambering for fix race nights, thinking it would assist the schedule of the top riders, I bet nobody gave a thought to the guest problem it would create when most of the remaining teams were riding on the same night... Surely this is not the way to entice the fans back..... Utter shambles......
  25. Allan Johansen rode a full season for the Stars in 89 (34 matches- 6.64 Aver) but in 1990 only had 2 guest appearance, one of which was at Reading..
