  1. Flying Shale - you can only take control of one team, or none, but not all. Which means, the AI will do some weird stuff at some point which does have a an annoying tint on the overall game
  2. Do you know of a way to get control of ALL teams. Is there a tweak that can be made in the programming?
  3. When I was going to Lynn in the mid-70's I looked forward to seeing Doug Wyer, Jim McMillan, Finn Thomsen, Eric Broadbelt and Dave Morton come to town. Not the superstars of the era but solid #1's who always (seemed) to be giving it all. Sometimes their teams would spring a surprise but mostly they were on losing teams, Most of them nearly always got open bookings for the Littlechild, Dow Trophy or Pride of The East, so clearly they were liked and trusted to entertain. I must have Jimmy Mac's autograph on so many Lynn home programmes....
  4. I think Bruce Penhall would have been boss in a GP series - I see him as an early version of Greg Hancock. Focused, great equipment, great back up team.
  5. As a sidetrack to the enjoyable banter - I started watching in 1973 - my fave years between 1978-84 when I had cash and left home and could go as often as I wanted. I enjoyed the 84 season the most I reckon 'cos I spent the summer jumping on trains catching mtgs all over the place, with camera in hand. I got to know a number of riders pretty well and spannered for Keith Bloxsome a couple of times when the Stars were in London. Comparing the riders from the one off era to the GP series - I remember being a fan of the Daily Mirror/Volkswagen Grand Prix Series from 76 to 1980. One year Mike Lee won 3 rounds and still finished outside the top 3 in the Grand Final. Was very happy to see him win it finally at Wimbledon in 1980.
  6. If anyone wants a copy of Speedway promoter - dm me your email address. It won't install on Windows 10 or W8 or W7 but you may have luck with W2000. It definitely works on W95 , W98 and XP (edit: thanks for info below) No idea about installing on Apples.
  7. Man....I wish there were a way in Flying Shale to control ALL TEAMS. Have got it going with the 2020 lineups using 2019 averages and assessed for Crump and Pedersen :-) I have Speedway promoter 2002 on floppy - will install this as soon as I get my floppy drive hooked up later this weekend.
  8. Because I have been messing around with Flying Shale and Speedway Mtg (Shale works on Windows 10) - I was wondering if there was any change on this discussion, anything happening behind the scenes. I am fascinated with the discussion. I still have a copy of Speedway Scene II on Tape cassette that I used to load onto my Apple II back in the mid 80's along with the board and dice. I started playing baseball Sims on the PC back in 1986 (when I moved to the USA) This game was available on PC and Amiga and included separate floppy discs with programs enabling you to edit player attributes, add new players etc. The developer of this baseball game (for EA) left and took his game engine modded it and uploaded a new version on the web as freeware. Aside from the regular baseball stats, Players also had 3 attributes that affected their performance, which we are editable - although the loaded stats were based on real performance stats (running speed, fielding %, arm strength) and pitchers had editable stats also (pitching speed and Endurance) . So in speedway terms, for example, that could be frequency of Tape exclusions (as % of starts), % falls per starts and % engine failures per starts, all of which we know from available stats. I always thought that one determining factor in a truly great speedway sim would be that the rider database would include lifetime real averages by track(s). We all know certain riders perform miserably at certain tracks and score maximums at others. There used to be a web site where you could see all current rider averages rides etc. by track, by year etc. etc. I think they stopped updating in 2012? Of course this would require special algorithm calcs I am guessing? Anyway - just wanted to pop this back up top to see if it was going anywhere?
  9. Anyone playing Speedway Challenge 19 on the PC ? I have some questions if you are, as I can't get a response from the developers.
  10. I have some season review DVD's for Coventry, Workington and possibly Wolverhampton from the late 90's early 2000's. If you are interested.
  11. I have written about this subject before, many moons ago. Here in the States, back in 1995 Independent Supporters Groups were formed for all brand new Major League Soccer clubs that would start playing in 1996. A grass roots operation in the early days of the internet. The Boards of Directors of each supporters groups met as a group annually, the day before the MLS Cup Final (which is held in a different city each year). In 1998 in Los Angeles, we met with the MLS President and CEO and other Officials. At that meeting we made our main discussion topic the abolition of Shootouts deciding MLS games. Shootouts were abolished at the 1999 League Board Meeting for the 2000 season. We worked with the League to secure safe standing sections at all MLS clubs. And there have been plenty of other initiatives approved over the years. We also disagreed with the League playoff system (sound familiar?) As a group we got together and raised money to design and cast a trophy to be called the Supporters Shield which would be awarded to the team finishing the season with the highest points total. 20 years later, the Supporters Shield is now an official trophy, with the winners guaranteed entry into the CONCACAF Champions League. So what does this have to Speedway ? It goes to show what is possible when the fans organize and use their power of numbers and purchasing power to influence those that control the game. Each teams group of fans should organize a meeting locally, to elect a representative to speak on their behalf along with other supporters groups in discussions with the BSPA. Each group can decide what they want their representative to discuss, rather than individuals with axes to grind speaking on behalf of themselves....
  12. Emailed you last week, let me know if you saw it. Q on postage to the USA. Cheers.
  13. My god, sorry but there are some truly ignorant Brits in this thread. The Confederate battle flag is a symbol of hate and bigotry - and is being (finally) taken down from the public square across this country. The heritage being celebrated is one of slave owning whites. The use of the flag as part of the logo for a sports team, anywhere, is simply not appropriate. It's time for Somerset to retire the flag, the nickname etc and become something else. Just because you are in the UK makes no difference at all. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25228412/doug-baldwin-on-rebel-flag-what-does-southern-heritage-really-mean Ever heard of the civil rights movement? In the late 40's, the flag was an adopted symbol of the segregationist Dixiecrat party. Article 4 of their platform stated, "We stand for the segregation of the races." In 1956, the battle flag was a prominent feature on the redesign of Georgia's state flag partly in response to the Supreme Court's ruling to desegregate schools just two years earlier. They have since removed it. The argument we hear today is that the flag represents "Southern Heritage" and "Southern Pride". The only relevant "heritage" I could find in history not pertaining to civil war was associated with racism and segregation. Is this the heritage and pride you speak of? That brings me full circle. By understanding the significant historical symbolism of Robert E. Lee's battle flag, we can easily identify the various messages that flying the flag represents. But to all of you exercising your right to freedom of speech, do you even know what you are supporting? To those arguing against the flag, make sure your argument is based on the facts. I'm sure there are those individuals that understand what the flag stands for and still support it. And to that group I say, may God bless you because I'm having a hard time with grace myself. As a 26 year old who grew up in the south around many supporters of the confederate flag, I would like to ask those same people to answer this question: What does southern pride and heritage really mean? Is it the sweet tea and hospitality? Or is this a sense of pride for the rebellious actions against a national government who had the audacity to say that secession was unconstitutional and slavery was wrong? Furthermore, I'd like to ask, how does this symbol which produces such a strong feeling of offense by those who were oppressed under it, best represent that pride and heritage? If you can answer these questions and defend this flag in a way that isn't rooted in a sense of emotional, stubborn, pride for the oppressive intent this flag has represented in the past, then I'll gladly commend you for it. But until then, I'll be patiently waiting for the day ignorance can educate itself and will do my part to try and educate it in an assertive, respectful manner.
  14. Was hoping to order a copy on-line for USA delivery but that isn't an option this year. Email sent last week unanswered. Perhaps Mr Rising could let us know here how non-UK residents can order ?
  15. I'm pleased that the World Champ is someone who rides in the UK. Who says you can't be world champ and ride on the varied tracks across the UK on odd days of the week. Go Holder.
  16. The 2012 US Open Champion is Chris Kerr. Runner up - Sam Ermolenko 3rd. Adam Mittl. Sam is still super quick from the starts and knows how to handle a bike. But Chris Kerr was brilliant. Why he never got invited back to the UK I will never know.
  17. In case anyone is interested in booking a last minute flight to NY, the premier two day racing event of the NY speedway calendar this year will include a racing comeback by Sudden Sam Ermolenko. Also racing will be (ex-british leaguers) David Meldrum, Dukie Ermolenko and Josh Larsen along with NY's finest USA Dream Teamers, Adam Mittl and Mikey Buman. Check http://www.canadianspeedway.com/ or http://www.jbrspeedway.com/tracks/champion.html Keep doin' it sideways.
