  1. Speedway anywhere needs new blood, both running the sport & younger spectators through the turnstiles, a good percentage of the previous Dukes fans have probably departed to that great arena in the skies above us. Television only works to a certain extent, bringing the sport to a wider audience but that's got to be converted to bums on seats and they've then got to get a similar experience as TV, inter-heat activity, good presenters, re-runs on large tv screens, no long delays, you need to keep fans entertained for 2-2 1/2 hours, not just the 15 miutes of racing, modernize the whole package, not just the bikes & leathers.
  2. People always knock Odsal's level of speedway fans but it's a vast stadium, you could put the fans of any British club in the stand & it wouldn't be full, no other speedway stadium has a capacity of nearly 23,000.
  3. Brilliant photo of bends 3 & 4 on Startrax facebook page, not sure how to upload it, bend 3 foreground shows ideal place for trackside pits area.
  4. Fully agree, would love to see speedway back at that awsome track, went every week from86 to 97, even some exhibition meetings this year would be a good taster, I now live in Lincolnshire but would be up like a shot. Full credit to Steve Rees & Startrax for bringing Odsal back to life.
  5. According to updates,Watjknecht only took 2 programmed rides, heats 2 & 7, is that correct ? thought all riders had to take at least 3 programmed rides, please correct me if I,m mistaken.
  6. On present showings, keep Garrity and let Birks go.
  7. I agree, not sure what the normal maximum capacity is for a speedway meeting, but I think this meeting has the potential to far exceed it, the stewards will have a field day policing the 'can't stand here' yellow box exclusion areas near the first bend terrace entrance, also viewing comfort on the home straight isn't ideal as it isn't sloped enough to be able to see over the people infront of you.
  8. I'd say Peterborough are looking more than capable of challenging for honours
  9. 6.31 left to play with, so Ben on 4.86 would be a waste, don't rate him anyway.
  10. Watch this video and you realize that virtually every grumble on the whole of this British speedway forum pales into insignificance in comparison. Hears to Ricky's continued recovery' and the biggest benefit meeting ever next March.
  11. Whoever is the final jigsaw piece, Sheffield will be needing at least a couple of riders improving their averages to full heatleader status, to support Stead, home and away.
  12. Only 12 points left for the remaining two riders, one of whom needs to be a heatleader.
  13. You can start the season with Brits at reserve but it doesn't mean they have to stay there, it could soon be manipulated, as can and are, many other rules.
  14. There's got to less meetings in a season, less competitions. Quality over quantity
  15. Bring the concrete starting gate back, that would stop the gardening, might go through more tyres though.
  16. Obviously nothing announced otherwise it would have leaked by now.
  17. We've had 6 man teams before, eg, Bradford, 1997, good idea.
  18. I'll stick my neck out and say Sheffield will go elite next season. There is little merit in winning the premier league. They can't risk another disastrous season, or if they want to, it may as well be in the elite. Lots of TV coverage for the new management and there sponsors. Local derbies with Scunthorpe and Redcar have lost their appeal, may as well try Belle Vue and Leicester for a change. Despite all the negativity about the elite league, I actually believe crowds at Owlerton would increase. My son & I would return at the start of next season, something we don't intend doing if premier level, until the team proves it's worth.
  19. Once again today, The Sheffield Star refers to this weeks match against Berwick as the penultimate home league meeting, next week is against Plymouth, so when is the to be re-arranged clash with Edinburgh, or are Sheffield quietly conceding it to avoid another damaging home defeat ?
  20. Sheffield may as well just send Stead to this fixture, the rest will just be there to pick up their start money.Easy 60 point tally for Edinburgh.
  21. Gregs acknowledgment of the whole crowd deserves special mention.
