  1. im just surprised a triple british champ is not mentioned..that was all....after all, he did compete in the times when the british title wasn't swamped with lower lge riders
  2. you clearly stated the racing in 40s/50s were from the gate just 2 messages up, it wasn't me slagging it off!!...and what do you mean when you say you prefer EVERYONE getting a chance over 60 rides? EVERYONE meaning just 15 riders??? hal of the gp field wouldn't even make the final under the old system....would harris of made all those finals? chris Louis couldn't buy his way past the overseas rounds time after time, yet once these riders get in the gps, theres no getting rid of them!
  3. think we could exchange views all nite on this one, and still not agree..you prefer gps, I prefer a world title where everyone gets there chance over 5 rides..i don't like wildcard system where you put back just because the organisers want a rider because of nationality over talent
  4. where in my line did I say andy smith was one of the best??..with those british titles only bettered by a tiny minority, just thought hes worth a SUGGESTION
  5. the ones I witnessed WERE more cut throat, Italian gp figures, croation, Gothenburg, prague even, nothing special attendance wise, with tv coverage, I recall bein in Gothenburg in 1991, no tv coverage in uk and was far larger crowd..but hey,if you like the closed shop gps, you enjoy them, but don't think everyone think the gps are a step forward.. awful comment.....you just picking out world finals, the qualifyers were brilliant rounds, you talk as tho every gp is top draw!!
  6. you had more people go to overseas final, intercontintal finals than you get in at least 3 gps..far better cut throat racing
  7. andy smith don't feature much in list
  8. absolutely, lets drop this stuid gb....its England pure and simple
  9. ????......you think numbers a good thing, I don't..simple...as I said all along, if riders make money from it good. but in MY opinion, pointless......as a kid I wanted a junior race jacket, never ever interested in a international one..
  10. only from what I saw of him, didn't find ricko the best of passers, not saying he never passed, but in comparison to pc and loram, prob not..this doesn't alter my opinion as one of the best ever riders
  11. pointless.....greg had 45 for a while now, but if you asked the fans around you at your track, they wouldn't know what you on about
  12. no way could anyone diss rickardsson, but personally don't think he was extra special from the back..when he hit the front it was goodbye, mega fast
  13. the reason I put john Louis was due to his achievement afer starting out at 28 yrs of age, blrc, british champ, world no3, 2x world champ (pairs and team), think that would suffice his position in this section.......
  14. despite certain people talking up a manages job, lets face it, its a piece of cake..its basic, im sure anyone doing a job for zilch needs to be Einstein!!
  15. yeah, remember british final semi line ups, what depth.....barry Thomas, another remembered
  16. interesting clip if can get you tube john davis documentary 1982 anybody know if a club had more than 5 world champions, b.vue/cradley I can recall, don't think that's bettered?
  17. this subject really makes 2014 look poor
  18. andy smith forgotten and 3x brit champ!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. davis, betts, ashby, kilby, Davey, jolly, Gresham, reg Wilson, dave Morton, turner, eriksen, pusey, les Collins, phil Collins neil Collins, none of these a top 10 rider, but shows the quality of line ups in strength of top flight speedway in them days..
  20. think I liked him cos he was a character, remember him getting jeered a few times, which livens up things, his style was a bit different, but no, never a top 10 rider..his pink in his leathers stood out a bit, but thinking of todays british finals, he highlights the strength in depth England had
