  1. And once a fortnight halves the cost for those who find it too expensive so it could increase crowds.
  2. As I said in a post way back, "what are we doing as supporters to promote the sport". There is an example where we could at least have a go, do we just sit back and leave it to someone else?
  3. According to Companies House, Director Robert Brian Havelock was born May 1940
  4. It looks as though you are the glass half empty type and i am the glass half full, I think we'll have to agree that our glasses are at the same level
  5. But if Asda goes bust you have Tesco, Morrisons etc etc. to buy your beans. If you did stick some Asda posters around town maybe, just maybe, your tin of beans might be a bit cheaper on your next visit.
  6. That's exactly my point the Great British public doesn't know the sport exists that's where, at no expense, we as supporters can inform and educate the public. Take a few posters round, bring the subject up on media websites and let the official promoters do what they do. As someone said nothing has changed in 50 years, lets show the "promoters" there is a force out here trying.
  7. There is certainly a place for getting one up and over on each other but that is on the track not at the AGM. One thing that has changed over the last 50 years is supporter participation and I believe, track rivalries apart, as supporters we should come together and do all we are able to promote the sport from our level. in this multi media age the supporters must be a force to be listened to, if not by words, by actions.
  8. I agree the powers that be must do their bit and hopefully comments on these forums might push them into doing the right thing but that doesn't stop the rest of us from doing what we can. If, as you say, British speedway will be extinct in 5 years do we want to look back and say "we should have done ------" as supporters?
  9. Although this topic is Speedway AGM and it is understandable that posters are discussing what the team promoters should or should not do it is easily forgotten that we, the supporters, are the best promoters of the sport. I am sure the biggest problem with gate numbers and therefore finances is the fact that the vast majority of the Great British public are not aware that the sport exists. Very few newspapers, tv and radio stations give any space at all. What are we doing as supporters to promote the sport? I'm not a fan of Facebook and Twitter etc but Is there anyone bringing the subject up on the Facebook and Twitter pages of local and national media? That's where we want the discussions taking place as well as on these forums. To paraphrase what J.F. Kennedy once said "Think not what my "club" can do for me but think what I can do for my "club""
  10. Thanks for your very clear factual post.
  11. Well said CC, spot on. Just to expand on the drum issue, the problem was that the drummer paid no attention no announcements from the refs box and drown all out with the echo of the drum under the roof. Any other time and the drum is a welcome addition to the atmosphere.
  12. The stand position is a matter of opinion but I believe that on the 4th bend with the banking gives a spectacular view. Its very sad that you resort to name calling but what exactly have the brothers done wrong?
  13. Why will bringing in someone who is not a shareholder be such a bad thing? The "stand in the wrong place" have you ever been in the stand during a meeting? The stand is owned by a shareholder but he is a bit more than just an ordinary shareholder.
  14. I heard from a reliable source that Gary is not the replacement.
  15. I cant see anything on Mirror website, what does the article say about Gary coming to Redcar?
  16. Lets hope that the school/college promotion plan helps and all the permissions can be obtained, then if other riders can be persuaded to follow Bombers example.....
  17. Thanks Trees I'll let you know how things progress, Which club would you cover?
  18. uk martin, on 29 Sept 2016 - 6:58 PM, said: An update on the promotional poster/video idea. i asked Wayne Russell if he would let me have some guidelines for what Gospeed would allow us to do. i have been promised a full reply sometime next week, he is very busy at the moment, so fingers crossed. If we get workable guidelines from Gospeed are there any volunteers from enough clubs, Elite, Premier and National league to contact schools, colleges etc in that clubs area to invite them to take part in the competition? (And get the clubs permission).
  19. I totally agree. If (and its still a big if) Gospeed come through there is the practicality of schools producing a promotional video in the close season or maybe it should be left up to the schools/colleges to use their resourcefulness to beg steal and borrow footage and interviews.
  20. Rather than take the "Only snag" statement at face value (which may be as you say) I contacted Gospeed and had a very encouraging prompt reply from a Wayne Russell. I very briefly outlined the above plan and he thought it a great idea and would where possible remove any obstacles to allow such a scheme. I realise that talk is easy and promises can be wriggled out of but maybe, in this case, Gospeed should be given the benefit of doubt. He did say that he assumed it would be a national scheme but I would prefer individual clubs to do their own competition.
  21. WOW, now that is a plan. Isn't it in Terry Russell's interest to see the sport grow?
  22. My thinking when resurrecting this thread was what can individual supporters do rather than what promoters etc should be doing.
  23. A couple of times, without reaction, I have suggested that local schools compete to design next seasons posters during the close season. This would create interest and discussion through research for the design with complimentary tickets for competition entrants. Has anything like this been tried before, any thoughts?
