  1. I can't agree that Nielsen and Gundersen were over-rated or that we think they were better than they were. I'm also sure Carter had it in him to win the title, though sadly events prevented us from ever knowing. None the less, I thought he was great.
  2. I thought the first 2 meetings were very successful and with Greg being reigning WC, a great night would have been a certainty.
  3. Sorry old friend but I did not get to Reading, but somehow I left Belle Vue off my list. How could I do that after watching all those BLRC meetings in the 60's?.
  4. All "Hammers" fans from my era will remember Bjorn Knutsson with great fondness and much respect.
  5. Glad I can remember some things...my wife reckons I only have 2 brain cells left!!!
  6. From memory I have seen speedway at 22 tracks, the majority in the 60's. sadly only 5 are still operating. Anyone out there visited more than 17 defunct tracks?. Mine are as follows: West Ham Hackney Wimbledon Wembley London White City long Eaton Leicester Blackbird Road Oxford Newport Glasgow White City Edinburgh Old Meadowbank Cradley Heath Crayford Romford Rayleigh Exeter Canterbury
  7. This is an excellent site with a wealth of information.
  8. My only visits to watch speedway in Scotland were in 1967...Old Meadowbank and Glasgow White City. I have happy memories of the Edinburgh trip but sadly not of Glasgow. I don't know how the current homes of Scottish speedway compare with OM and GWC. Do any of you Scottish fans who attended meetings in the 60's prefer your current homes?.
  9. Does anyone know if this meeting is being held this year?.
  10. Unless my memory is playing tricks I recall a GBvPoland Test at West Ham where it was GB struggling!.
  11. Thanks for your post E I Addio...nice to get feedback.
  12. No as I have already put KK and Tai in the top 2, but I am sticking my neck out and putting Zagar and Holder lower down. I could be completely wrong of course.
  13. I know I'm a boring old fart, living in the past and viewing the world of speedway through rose-coloured glasses, but having been at every Wembley Final through the 60's and 70's and the great 1981 Final and then going to Cardiff last year, I know which I prefer!.
  14. Holder, Ward, Doyle and Batchelor would, in my opinion, outscore the GB top 4. It then depends upon the remaining 2/3 as to whether we outrank Australia. Once again...3 cheers for common sense.
  15. 1 World Champion does not make a Team. GB and USA have produced the last 2 World Champions but who would back either in a Test series against Poland or Denmark?.
  16. Maybe, but I would back Sweden against GB in a Test Series...sadly.
  17. Who's it going to be?. As usual injuries are likely to play their part but if all 15 compete in all 12 rounds, who is likely to be crowned champion?. Sticking my neck out I am going for KK, followed by Tai and Greg. No doubt many will disagree...all comments welcome.
  18. I was pondering the other day on the greats of the past and wondering how they would fare if they were at their peak today. Given modern machinery and technical advances, modern track preparation and the spread of international speedway, would Fundin, Briggs and Mauger still win 15 world titles between them?. Going back a little further would Moore, Williams and Young still be World-beaters?. How about going back to the beginning?. If van Praag, Milne and Wilkinson could return to the track would they become World Champions?. ? ?
  19. I for one applaud the National League and hope it goes from strength to strength. It is the future of British speedway and the only way we can return to the top..Finance would probably inhibit it but I would love to see Representative matches between the top NL riders and their counterparts from other countries. Full team, 4-Team and Pairs meetings against Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany etc. would give our lads vital experience.
  20. Back in the day I would have paid good money (and did) just to watch Kenny. I have no doubt he would have been World champion.
