  1. Interesting comparing heat times with the main event yesterday. The U21’s are not far off. Could be some new faces contesting the GP challenge over the next two or three years.
  2. They would not get wild cards as Poles I believe due to number of Poles already competing.
  3. A World Championship series supposedly features the world’s best. At the moment this is not the case with speedway. The last year Artem and Emil competed they finished first and third. The world champion was banned from defending his title though no fault there his own. If they can’t compete as Russians why can’t we compete as non-affiliated?. fi
  4. Do any forum members remember DeWayne Keeter who rode for Leicester in 1969, and tragically died following a track crash. He was the first American to ride in the British League. I may be one of the few forum members who saw him in action.
  5. Going from memory my first copy of SS in 1964 cost 1/3d., though it may have been 9d..
  6. I’m not convinced Emil will want to return next year. I would think for Poland and Sweden contracted riders, England is a lot of extra effort for not a great reward.
  7. Cardiff gave us the 7th. different winner in 7 rounds. Any chance of 11 rounds, 11 different winners?.
  8. Good point. Way back when there was at least one test series every year.
  9. Pity. Would be a good replacement for Cardiff but for the fence issue.
  10. Good point Chunks… The atmosphere, the noise and the fact it was a one-off event made it a must visit. I can’t remember one single race but remember every meeting. I loved Wembley and don’t forget, they held many major meetings apart from World Finals pre-1982.
  11. The viewing figures are usually respectable and if thousands of people who know nothing about speedway see Bewley and Lambert in action, who knows if some may get the bug.
  12. What’s happening or not happening re Bradford. Shale track laid and motor sport being held. As a former WF venue is it feasible as a GP venue post Cardiff?.
  13. How big is the track and is it shale or tarmac?. I assume noise is not a problem if they hold car meetings. Has anyone ever considered reintroducing speedway there?.
  14. I can’t agree with the comments about Cardiff. Great city, great stadium centrally located, though Cardiff is out on a limb. To be honest I was underwhelmed on my only GP visit, but probably my fault as I don’t like tiny tracks. If only a disappointing 20,000 want to attend, where else in Britain could it be staged. For what it’s worth I believe more fans would visit Birmingham than Cardiff, though 40,000+ were at Cardiff when I went. Is it totally impossible to lay a temporary track at one of the Birmingham stadia during a summer, when the football season is over?.
  15. I think you missed the point of my post. The feeling I was getting is that this may be Cardiff’s last year. If so and if attendance has dropped below 25,000, but more than the NSS holds, could the Co-Op arena be a viable option. Cardiff holding 75,000 is irrelevant if only 20,000 turn up.
  16. Could they not put a Cardiff size track in the Co-Op Manchester by rearranging seating?.
  17. Would a one-off World Final at the Etihad in Manchester draw a bigger crowd than the British GP in Cardiff?.
  18. Just a thought, and maybe a silly one from an old duffer, If Cardiff is struggling for attendance figures and/or this is their last year, and the NSS is too small and weather dependent, could not a temporary track be laid in one of the large arenas?, I am thinking Co-Op arena Manchester , Leeds, O2, Sheffield for example.
  19. A wonderful read Norbold and thanks for the great memories. I was there too but sadly the grey cells are dying and my memory has not as sharp as yours. Oh how I miss those days.
